The world was not ready for Craig Wedren when they came on the scene. Today it would not even be regarded as out of the parameters. Too bad. This was a terrific band.
I recall seeing STT in Minneapolis after REV105 broke Ex French T Shirt. The crowd left after that song, and ST kept playing. Craig spent the whole set singing to me in the audience, and it was an exquisite experience. Such an amazing art form they do.
Saw them open for foo fighters a long time ago at the Newport in Columbus ohio. The world wasn’t ready for them. Always have shudder to think on rotation.
This album is so good that I loved it and listened to it constantly when it first came out despite not listening to any other music like it and mostly being into metal.
Jade is still my fav... but this one is brilliant also!! Saw these guys with Fugazi in Ottawa in 1993 or 94 (couple yrs ago now...) One of the best shows I have ever been too!!!! Long live 90's post punk!!!! :D
Couldn't believe my Ears when i first stumbled upon Shudder to Think, Get your Goat, Hit Liquor both Blew my brains out, Both Albums became the Soundtrack to my Reckless Drug Fuelled Adventures in Holland 95,96,Gaura,
These songs (pretty much all I've listened to) are worthy of play today on the NPR commercial-free FM stations like KTBG, 90.9, The Bridge in Kansas City. In fact, I heard a bit of X-French T-Shirt there a few weeks ago, and that's what brought me to their site. Good grief, these guys were so far ahead of their time... Outstanding music. :)
What a shame they never took off. I always thought it was a catch 22, the absolute best thing about the band was its intelligent chords+dynamic semi-flamboyant vocals, exactly what is going to prevent it from going mainstream...
"She's a buzzing bee / She's a person sleeping between you and me / Someone I want bad / But can't have / I'm an overgrown / Little wanting boy / She's my only joy / And the covers come between us too clear."
Why a band like Third Eye Blind was so popular among the mainstream while this band went mostly unnoticed is beyond me. I'll never understand the mainstream's taste in music.
I think it has more to do with what the labels want to push out and what that they think will sell than what is actually interesting, challenging and more rewarding.
@@rossroadcrew Your comment makes sense until you have to put the Jews in it. If you knew anything about Shudder To Think you would understand other than one record on Sony, they spent the time on indie labels. Jews have nothing to do with this. Calm down with the finger pointing and anti semitimism. Just enoy the fucking song!
On of the best, under-rated bands of the 90's. Amazing-- great vocals, top -notch musicianship! I saw them in Austin, Tx at Emo's about '93 and they blew me away! Why can't music be as good today? Thanks for sharing-- great memories. Hopefully one day they will get the credit deserved.
I was lucky enough to work with these awesome guys when they got signed to Epic Records - Their sound and style was hard to tag and for some it could take several listens to realize their brilliance in songwriting. I loved it from the get go - and Craig Wedren's vocals just added to the quirkiness of the band. Still one of my all time favorites.
Except it's the other way around! Red House was written first. It was originally on Funeral At The Movies, the record right before Get Your Goat (which featured Shake Yr Halo Down).
Like the original version better, but this is still pretty great for major label makeover. Probably because it's just an amazing, straight-forward song. Saw these guys in 1997 for this tour and was seriously blown away by Craig Wedren's charismatic performance. Of course they played this, but they also played "About Three Dreams" from Ten Spot, which ruled.
@Haroldscotclark Shudder formed in 1986 and played my college in 1987. Mike, the drummer was friends good with my roommate. They had four albums out in 1992. Jawbox formed in 1989.
That is pretty hard to imagine. I never once saw Shudder open for Jawbox. Both bands lived down the street from me in DC and I knew most of them pretty well. They both went major label at the same time, and Shudder got a bigger advance. I know because I discussed it with members of both bands, and the different ways they were handling it. Shudder was a much bigger draw in DC than Jawbox.
AngrySemite that’s some cool insight man; I was born in 96’ but have been really invested and interested in post-hardcore/punk acts from this century and before. Wasn’t the drummer for Jawbox the drummer for most of STT’s career?
reminds me of my mother. she has aids and she’s currently battling addiction to fentanyl and spice/k2. she’s the only mom i have and will ever have. i don’t know when she’ll pass, but when she does im sure that my mental health will decline more than it ever has. i am disabled, c-ptsd, autistic, adhd, anxiety.. there’s a lot. my father doesn’t support me because i came out, two days from now marks the four year anniversary of being my true self. there’s just a lot to handle right now. i hope everyone here is jamming along to this song and having a good time. best wishes to everyone out there battling addiction, hiv/aids, mental health issues.... you’ll get through it, i promise it gets better. you’ll come out of this ok, stay strong.
You are such a Beautiful Soul, what with all your own Trials and Tribulations, your Duty to your Mom, that's where you Shine the Most, I experienced my Mums Decline into illness with Liver Cancer, she Faced her Demons and Stoically arranged her own Funeral Arrangements, which we followed to the Letter, Hugs Gaura.
+A Collectiv Unfair? Everyone is just sick of unmelodic Punk. Indie Punk is supposed to be gay music, face it. I'm not trying to be a boss though. Whatever. Some of it is just total Hard Rock. Whatever. Hardline is obviously gay, come out.
There has never been a genius as Craig wedren who ever defined what music was supposed to be. Billy Corgan did try though. This guy though, he's perfect
first heard these guys in PA IN THE EARLY 90'S....GOOD TIMES N FRIENDS! but the version I have on cassette from then sounds rougher like a different version?
Shudder to Think and JAwbox are two of the greatest bands all time. I love Fugazi but they had to leave Dischord because these two bands were too big for that label.

Yes it is Jennifer, I think it is the better version imo. There are just little things that does it for me on this version. Simple things such as the added "no" haha.
@aclopezestrada the original version's solo's far superior, at least to my ears - a lot more uplifting and very much part of the song, unlike this version's solo, which is a bit overblown and stands out too much.
Sweet video too. I don't think this macho, sexist culture was ready for Craig Wedren. He has some effeminate qualities. They were before their time perhaps, but I loved them, and I love Wedren's solo albums.
Good for a major label sellout XXX ❤️🤣 Smoke a joint go gay. Note: I'll be honest, I've never done drugs or been gay, but they are good musicians and it's ok to be, just not the most massive and popular way to be.

Not a typical Discord band but awesome cool 👌
This band is has it’s own genre. I can’t explain it but if you are a Shutter to think fan, you love it
Why because he's flamboyant? Or because they play in weird timing
This song Rocks, but their atonal stuff was a little obscure.
The best song you NEVER heard. Dang, these guys are sooooooo under-rated.
Perfectly said my friend
I love how this song progresses. genius

I didn't go to that show but I remember hearing the same thing.

Amazing song, amazing band. So underrated.
Great live band. Several times at Maxwell’s in Hoboken, 1990’s.

Hijodeganas1 the lyrics take half a brain to appreciate. That or they didn't/wouldn't submit to the jews.
Third Eye Blind is a good band

Such a cool video. 100 times better than today's music videos
a thousand times.
Been a long time that dude can wail man. Loved hearing it again.
best rock band of the 90s
ALWAYS SOOO GOOD!!!
i seen these guys at the 9:30 club in d.c in the early 90's it was great

Whoa, just realized how much this is like a slicker, less uneasy version of "Shake Your Halo Down," 20 years after the fact. Craaaazy!
Except it's the other way around! Red House was written first. It was originally on Funeral At The Movies, the record right before Get Your Goat (which featured Shake Yr Halo Down).
an underground gem from the 90's. This band was beyond brilliant.
Awesome band
Such a haunting song. Very underrated singer and band.
From the wayback machine. I loved this band.

A thank you goes to james iha for me discovering this band.
I saw them open for Fugazi. I saw them and had to get the album. I think I still own the tape.
Saw them live in a venue I'd played at, on the same stage. They owned it like we never did. Skeleton Key opened!
Nice Hit!
So good.
That's more like it
@Haroldscotclark
Shudder formed in 1986 and played my college in 1987. Mike, the drummer was friends good with my roommate. They had four albums out in 1992. Jawbox formed in 1989.
