Last time I was in Centralia, the graveyard had fire burning throughout it. Those poor resting people. I went through 3 times within 3 years. One time, a house still stood in place. The second time, the only thing left of it was a burnt chair.
graffiti highway is completely covered with large piles of dirt to deter visitation...too many idiots took full size vehicles, atv's, utv's, off road motorcycles, etc on to the highway; also lots of vandalization, littering, trespassing, and nuisance activity of the surrounding areas
I'm from new eagle pa. 20 miles south of Pittsburgh. When young we used to have keg parties at a place we called burning hill an same thing as Centralia but not as big. still burning today as far as I know!
Wish they would make centralia an historic landmark.... I drive by there on Sunday the 7 oct 18, the roads were lined with people and cars it has become whether people like it or not a tourist land mark.
Just wanted to say thanks 😊 thanks dude for the don't know how many people tell you but I really enjoy them I have an autistic son he gets a real kick out of them as well so thanks 👍👍👌😁 "MIKE"
You know one would think if you're trying to put out a fire, why put pipes in the ground to bring air down to it and make it continue to burn? I've been to Centralia before. Easiest way to get to it is get off the exit of 81 near the Schuylkill Mall. It's the Route 61 exit heading NORTH I believe. Then just follow the Route 61 North signs and eventually you'll see the vast open fields that used to be the town of Centralia.
CheapestGamer they tried a couple times to put it out. One of the attempts was to pump water down into the mine shafts, in thinking that's what those pipes were for
Yet they just recently(within the last couple of years) put out a mine fire up this way in Carbondale, PA as of 2016. Had they actually put sufficient effort towards at least containing it we wouldn't even be considering Centralia a place to visit as an oddity now.
Like i said they tried a couple of times to put it out, like they put a lot of effort into it. Eventually they just gave up figuring that it would only burn a couple more years.
what a loss. the men who set that fire must feel awful. a whole town gone. homes ,roots the american dream is silent here. never to be chased again. lessons to be learned people. ..
XtremeXploring That's really a shame to hear. I enjoyed visiting the town. Pretty wild, how there were concrete steps, remained but the houses they led to were no longer there. I always wonder what life was like in the town's days before being reduced to what we see today.

Congrats! You've found Silent Hill!
Nice work. Gotta love Pennsylvania.
i remember driving thru the town in the 80's on our way to knoebels
I'd like to know their reasoning for venting the fire instead of starving it of air.
Enjoyed the video.

The pipes don't "bring air down to it". They are ventilation pipes as well as monitoring points

Unfortunately, Graffiti Highway is no more :(
Dave B why
@@Busboss1811 they covered it over with dirt
The cemetery looked pretty cool why did you not go thru it?
I've walked thru it on some of my other visits, maybe next time I'm up there I'll do a walk thru.
....and record it.
Wish it was still open to the public!
XtremeXploring I was there about 2 years ago. Is it now illegal to visit Centralia?
Unit 265 sadly

Unit 265 I was there about a year ago and there were no trespassing signs but my daughter and I still went is there more security now or something?
Enjoying The Sun 577-Jersey Customs I'm not really sure. It's been a while since I went. At that time, it wasn't permitted to be there after dusk
The Silent Hill movies were based off of this town and events.
We use to sneak our streetbikes around the dirt mound m ride on the graffiti highway
I cant believe they covered the road.
last time I was there, the creepy old church was still standing
The church on the hill? Not creepy - it is rather beautiful.
Hope you've got a new camera. That zoom noise is really annoying.
You don't have much tolerance do you?
"Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary" is the name of the church building. It's a Ukrainian-Greek Catholic Church.
Thanks
17 some years and it is still burning. where there is smoke there is fire...sad
Ya man I was in that town when it was standing it was wiered and I remember the smell from the gas sucked
10:07 Thats a shroom.
