Today we’re making the Lonely Penguin! This original drink of mine is unlike most cocktails. Spicy rye and blackberry are the main flavors, and bright citrus and coconut give the drink a tropical spin. We’re also going a little overboard with the garnishing here. Typically, I’m a minimalist when it comes to presentation, but today’s an exception. Cheers!

THE LONELY PENGUIN RECIPE 4:47
1.5 oz. (45 ml) Rittenhouse 100 proof Rye Whiskey
1/2 oz. (15 ml) Combier Crème de Mûre
3/4 oz. (22.5 ml) cream of coconut*
3/4 oz. (22.5 ml) fresh lemon juice
1/4 oz. (7.5 ml) semi-rich simple syrup (1.5:1 sugar:water)
2 dashes Angostura Aromatic Bitters
2 cocktail cherries (eyes), orange wedge (beak), 2 pineapple fronds (flippers), & cocktail umbrella for garnish (arranged to look like a penguin)
*CREAM OF COCONUT RECIPE (SYRUPS VIDEO 2.0: • Homemade Cocktail Syru... )
1.75 cups (420ml) white sugar
13.5 oz. (400ml) unsweetened full fat coconut milk (1 can)
Pinch of salt
In a medium sauce pan, combine sugar, coconut milk, and salt. Stir over heat until sugar is completely dissolved.

I made these last night and they are so good! I made one with creme de cassis instead of creme de muir and one with raspberry liqueur because I had both of those on hand - the creme de cassis was the clear winner. This was for sure the most garnished cocktail I have made yet and they turned out so gosh darn cute.

So I didn't have any coconut creme or creme de mure, but I substituted passion fruit puree for coconut creme and Fraise Des Bois for creme de mure... the drink was magic! It reminded me of a drink I get when I'm at a pool bar on cruise ships. I can't wait to make it for my friends. They are going to love it! Thanks for sharing this recipe, I look forward to trying it with coconut creme.
