When Clay tried to have Tara killed, that's what was personal. Don't forget about the time Clay disparaged Tara right in front of Jax and Jax threatened to pound "those half dead hands" if he ever talked about Tara like that again. Jax was super protective of her.
Clay was evil but a class act. He also always did what he thought was best for the MC and usually was right. We all loved Jax but as the series went on finally realized what was always obvious - the kid was dumb as a rock. I really have to make this my next binge show. BTW I noticed during lockdown that shows like Sopranos, Shield and Ray Donavon were quite different when you watch 5 or 6 episodes at a time instead of once a week. Remember decades ago an old English professor pointed out that we read Dickens as whole novels but his work was originally designed to be read one chapter at a time in the magazines of the day.
The show was all downhill from here. There was no more good guy/bad guy dynamic. Jax became just as unlikeable as Clay. I finished the show, but the last few seasons sucked. The only person I half way liked was Nero and he was with Gemma and she was repulsive. The show started strong and finished as a complete off the rails shit show.
It was basically Shakespeare's Hamlet, with gun running bikers. And from the first episode to the last, I knew almost everyone in the series would die.
Really would have been soemthing if instead of a spin off with the Mayans they had Abel grow up and take over and keep the soa going. I think a whole new generation of fans would have loved it as well.
