when I put the spark plug back in I use an old spark plug wire boot or if you replace the wire cut the boot off the wire cause the socket get stuck on sometimes by the rubber in the socket it make the job easy especially when in tight spot. just my thoughts

You do NOT need to remove alternator, but you DO need to pull the coil pack and its bracket.
You DO want to have a magnet wand nearby not if but when the new plug falls out of socket and rolls behind exhaust heat shield
I was fortunate enough to be skinny and not have to pull strap mounts
It was zero visual, all feel by fingertip

Im trying to figure out how to remove top left bolt on coil pack

Some people say take of the exhaust and access from the bottom - others say take of the intake manifold... I tried just rolling the engine, and I could not even feel the tops of the plugs! On top of that, there is a thick wiring harness that seems run right over the spark plugs!
Anyone know which is the preferred method?

you don't need to remove the alternator, you might need to take off the coil pack

I always do it from the bottom

Do you take the exhaust header off? Do you need a lift or do you think you can reach while lying on our back?

No you do not have to take off the manifold
