RE: PAUSING, EXPRESSIONS & AIR-INSTRUMENTS:
Please be mindful that we will pause (we prefer to react in the moment & to avoid copyright strike), we will react with enthusiasm, smiles, tears, conversation, exchanged looks and air-instruments. We are expressive by nature and are truly very quirky in every sense of the word. This is who we are and this is what we’ve got to offer. We understand it may not be for everyone, but here's to hoping you all enjoy and we absolutely love positive comments and feedback.

#DeepPurple #reaction
When i watch people react to music videos, i like when they start with studio versions in order to get the true effect of the recorded song and then react to the live versions later. When reactors begins with live versions, i quickly shut it off and go to another reaction.
I normally agree with that.. BUT in this case… The LIVE is amazing and worth the exception IMHO. Something about SEEING Ian’s performance makes it more exciting.
@@jprph1 i'm not saying live is awful. Just stating that live performances allow artists to embellish with creative nuisances that are better seen and heard once you've heard and know the original studio version. As a for instance Procal Harum's whiter shade of pale studio version as compared to live in denmark, same song two different ( orh awesome) renditions. I just feel "newbies" should listen and react to studio first.
@@jprph1 In this case live is better. Deep purple was the best live band i ever saw.
Made in Japan version should always follow this one..
???? So you would turn off Led Zep@ Madison Square Garden or Pink Floyd Confortablt Numb-LIVE-PULSE or Gary Moore in Paris"I've Still Got The Blues For You"
and after that one, you won't need the studio version and also the suspense and surprise on hearing the major solo has gone.
Same with Phil Collins:In THe Air Tonight in Paris or David Bowie: Heroes in Berlin and Rory Gallagher: Bullfrog Blues again in Paris though that has disappeared from here now, sadly.
This was a group of musicians at the very top of their game, other songs worth checking out are Burn, Lazy, Hush, Space Truckin, Highway Star and Pictures of Home all classics
My Woman From Tokyo, Rat Bat Blue, Mistreated, etc, etc.
Also note that Burn had A slightly different lineup, with David Coverdale on lead vocals. Of course, he later formed and sang lead for Whitesnake.
@@Banyandio of course good point. It's the same with Hush, that had Rod Evans on vocals and Nick Simper on bass as it was before Ian Gillan and Roger Glover joined the band.
Listen to the live version of this song you will like it
@@thorolsen8057 the live versions are excellent some prefer the version on Made In Tokyo but I prefer the live version on the BBC personally
THIS IS FROM BACK IN 70 GUYS!!! :) ANOTHERRRR TIMELESS CLASSIC FROM A GREAT ROCK BAND!
You have just listened to the vocal gymnastics of the great Ian Gillen, who was without peer amongst early 70's vocalists! And the amazing Jon Lord on keys!
Great reaction, loved the "stank face".
This Era of Deep Purple was awesome. The whole Machine Head album is killer. When a Blind Man Cries is a vocal masterpiece
This song has one of the most manic and psychedelic codas in the history of rock!
You're right about the influence on Iron Maiden. I know for sure that Bruce has named Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), and Arthur Brown as 3 of his big influences early on.
Well you like this so you will love the rest of the album.. If you can, listen to the live versions on "Deep Purple in Japan". That album shows you how good they were as a live band. Just as good as a studio versions.
Was a fan of Deep Purple. I don't listen to them as much any more, but I give them a go every once in awhile. This is a pretty good tune, but I'm not 16 anymore.
You guys are awesome!!!
Hi guys - this is the first album i ever bought with my own money - aged 9 - not telling you what year that was either........and I still own it .........thanks to all who said Hi to me on the Live Stream - sorry I missed that in the comments............Hello from NZ and back at you.
didn't you buy it in 1970, when it came out or did it take longer to get to NZ ? Just like the other day, when I claimed an Argentinian band of copying Deep Purple. The song was recorded in 1972 and he said there were no
Deep Purple records in Argentina before 1973 :-)
Song is a masterpiece
'Deep Purple - Made in Japan' THE best live album of all time
Exit Stage Left and Live After Death make the top 3.
Ian Gillan is one of my all time favorite vocalists (along with Paul Rodgers, Steve Marriott, Robert Palmer and Jess Roden) I wish you could have seen him live in his prime. Such a powerful singer! He, like Paul Rodgers, is still going strong but their voices have adjusted to age with subtitles of control over power.
Mark2 is quite simply the greatest group of pure rock muscians of all time. They created their own genre of which only they ever played.
"Child In Time"
Sweet child in time, you'll see the line

Guys, It's called an "EARGASM!!!!"😆😝🤟🎸🤣😂✌️💜
Just listen to the whole album straight through. You basically then have the reference source for almost every metal band that followed during the 80's and 90's. Try " Hard Lovin Man" for the " gallop" sound that Iron Maiden used so often, for example. It's all there on " Deep Purple In Rock" from 1970!! Enjoy.
I'll write my first lines before I listen: when my older brother bought this album, it was like the dawn of a new era in music, 7 titles, all unique, starting with Speed King, harder than anything, I had heard before, Bloodsucker with a great riff, then Child in time, the hymn, with a singing style, you've never heard before. Flight of the rat, with the drum solo in the end, Into the fire, another song with an epic riff, Living wreck with a beginning, I can still sing a long with DP, because the words brought funny pictures up and ending with Hard lovin man, another great song with Jon Lord's organ, the galopping rhythm and screaming Ian. Child in time was part of every party and we even danced to it .... it looks funny to me too, when I see music shows of that time and see the people dancing, but we had fun. In the early 70s I liked many bands, but there were actually only 2 singers, who really impressed me, one was Robert Plant, and everybody who liked his voice and charisma will agree. The other one was Ian Gillan just because he could sing like nobody else and Child in time proves that. 3 - 2 - 1 here I go, see you in 25 minutes:-)
Thank you for the story Rudi!!
Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin were known affectionately as The Unholy Trinity of Rock. "Burn" is a good song by them, but it is from the David Coverdale era.
Huge rock fan since I was 7 years old in the late 70’s…
Black Sabbath were a completely different animal than Zep or Purple. Besides all 3 bands playing very loud, Sabbath created a genre.
@Bookhouse Boy Coverdale added something to the Deep Purple brand but anything after that...pure garbage. Not one good song.
@@Ontariosound all three bands had distinctive sounds. That doesn't take away from the fact they were called The Unholy Trinity of Rock.
The best rock band in history
If you want to experience progressive rock, listen to the studio versions of the songs Echos by Pink Floyd and Closer To The Edge by Yes. They defined the prog rock genre.
Oh man - of all the songs you should watch the live version, this is it.
And of course, the piece Hocus Pocus from Focus..... That one is VERY VERY......VERY SPECIAL......
Uriah Heep. Don't forget about Uriah Heep. One of those great influential 70's classic rock bands. "The Magicians Birthday". "Easy Livin". "The Wizard". "Look at Yourself".........
great track off one of
the best albums ever
"deep purple in rock"!
Everyone talks about Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath as the ones to pave he way for hard rock and heavy metal, but in truth, it was Deep Purple's 1970 "In Rock" album that was pivotal for the then musical landscape and which was a clear and standout album that introduced hard rock to the world. I'm glad you finally discovered one of the most iconic songs in rock history...
DEEP PURPLE ES MI BANDA DEL CORAZÓN CON ELLOS ALLÁ POR LOS 70 APRENDÍ AMAR EL ROCK!!LARGA VIDA A PURPLE!!!
Pictures of Home is another great song
the lead singer was the original JC in the British production of Jesus Christ Superstar...I'm sure you've heard why LOL Ian Gillan btw...and I still think the Ritchie Blackmore guitar solo is one of the greatest of all time...it's a solo I NEVER tire of hearing!!
My experience is slightly similar to Nick's mom although I never was a hippie. I was well aware of and followed the Beatles progress from the first appearence in Swedish TV 30 October 1963 (UA-cam!) and the contemporary pop music with British and American pop, but also Swedish groups like Hep Stars (with Benny Andersson) and Hootenanny Singers (with Björn Ulvaeus - Björn and Benny much later forming ABBA). I liked Arthur Brown's "Fire" in 1968 (slightly silly today, but with a huge impact on music for decades). When I started in (Swedish ~) High School, I got new friends, and in 1970, very soon after Jimi Hendrix death, I started listen to him and Jethro Tull (Stand Up 1969). One friend had Led Zeppelin II (1969). Another friend had Black Sabbath (Paranoid, 1970), Deep Purple (in Rock, 1970) and Santana (Abraxas, 1970). All four albums were setting a starting point for all the music soon to explode in diversity (for me): ELP, Roxy Music, Zappa, Queen (the first album), Janis Joplin, the Dutch group Ekseption and Swedish Bo Hansson. Through Deep Purple, ELP, Zappa and Ekseption also an interest for classic music. Deep Purple in Rock is an important album - I guess not only for me.
you had good friends :-) I had to educate my friends, because I had all the good music from my older brother: Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep and and and. My first own discoveries were UFO and Ten years after, then became a big Slade fan. Janis Joplin had touched my young soul the first time I heard Me and Bobby McGhee. Nowadays I like all the bands on your list, back then I didn't care for Zappa (didn't understand his musical style), and not so much for Roxy Music. My brother had also Bo Hansson and I exchanged LPs with a friend receiving Ekseption's Trinity from him. What were your first Swedish favourite rock bands ? Today there are so many good ones from your country ... I like Opeth and Soen very much, but we also have lots of good stuff in Germany.
@@rudolfbecker4313 I think Swedish rock groups in the sixties mostly copied style from the British groups. I remember Shanes and Tages, but were no big fan. Swedish jazz was better with Jan Johansson, George Riedel, Monica Zetterlund, Svante Thuresson. The great change was when Pugh Rogefeldt started to play pop/rock in Swedish (or his home-made language Pughish). "Här kommer natten" was the big hit in 1969! "Fläsket brinner" was a fusion group influenced by traditional folk music. Check "Gunnars dilemma" or "Bosses låt" (referring to Bo Hansson!). Danish "Savage Rose" (early albums) and Dutch Golden Earring was other favorites. Great Swedish bands around 1970 was also Hansson & Karlsson and Samla Mammas Manna (both rock fusion but the latter more experimental) but I was not aware of them until much later. I don't remember any German groups that reached Sweden in the late 60s early 70s, but, I guess there were!?
Did you hear the Black Sabbath album "Born Again"? Deep Purple's Ian Gillan is the singer on that album. The title track is amazing.
Ian makes Sabbath sound more EVIL . . . even more than Dio, which is a feat!
I love the story that Ian got very drunk with Tony Iommi (and Geezer I believe), the next day Ian's manager calls him and says; "I wish you would tell me when you would join a band", Gillan says; "What are you talking about???"
Mgr: "Apparently you joined Black Sabbath"
Ian: "And that's how I joined Sabbath" :P.
@@mvunit3 I love that story.
Darlings, you are both so adorable!! Not only do I love listening to your chatter, but I just love looking at you!! Well, of course, I love to watch your reaction to music from my distant childhood! Thanks to both of you!
The whole In Rock Album is killer !!!
Deep Purple, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. The British foundations of hard rock and everything that followed thereafter.
You may also love: Conquistador (live version) from the group Procol Harum... And of course, CHuck Mangione Album live: An Evening of Magic, Live at the Hollywood Bowl... -- Feels so good is very good.....
You may love King Crimson: Album, In the court of the Crimson King... Greg Lake, form ELP, is the singer, etc...
You really need to check out Highway Star, my personal fav from them !
No Malmsteen or anyone else can ever beat this Deep Purple number
Richie Blackmore had vibrating fingers.
I think this one is for the war in Vietnam: " And from a flying led, hold but a little shade.." Jimi Hendrix wanted to be and supposed to be in Vietnam too but he got injured in a military parachute jump training. It was a true accident. He was in an airborne division during that. He didn't have so good legs after that and was said no, you are not up to it
saw them live in the 70s 3 times 72 the first time
There would be no Iron Maiden if hadn't been for Deep Purple.
You should consider yourself Fuckin lucky someone that basically invented shredding held you in his hands.
The song "Iron Butterfly Theme" is a pretty good song to hear from them. Pretty heavy as well.
Geddy Lee sang that high in the 70's. Check out Anthem from the Fly By Night Album for proof. Nick don't feel bad about missing great bands from the past I also managed to miss this album back in the day. Enjoyed your reaction. I would be one of those people who said that was good & end the video lol
Gotta do the live version.....
Must watch the video too appreciate the song ....
You must listen to mike oldfield; his early works. For your own benefit :)
For me Deep Purple is untouchable in terms of musicianship, technique, arrangements, innovation and improvisation … no other rock band can match them, maybe Jethro Thull and Kansas
Dream Theater covers the live version of this song from Made in Japan by Deep Purple.
Please you have to check out the version on made in Japan it’s live blows this one away
The live version on Made In Japan takes it to the next level..check it out.
Great reaction..just your expressions were were fun to watch. Check out hard lovin man from this same album..and you’ll hear more influence to Iron Maiden.
That predictive text is mad! Try watching the BBC gig they did, where the audience where told not to react!!
Try Flight of the Rat from same album. Guaranteed to induce head banging!
Excelent reaction guys!!. Any chance you're reacting to QUEEN?. GREETINGS FROM MÉXICO
Deep People - Bombs
Saw the mighty Purple seven times, awesome band. Mr Paice was a hero to me as a kid drummer. Paice and Ludwigs = sex. Still got my Ludwigs
Hi, Yall want to here a bad ass 70's song ! React to Robin Trower - Bri Bridge of sigh
PS: Ian Gillan was Jesus in Andrew Lloyd Webbers "Jesus Christ Superstar"
Rainbow. Gates Of Babylon. Or whatever others recommend.
Please react to the studio version of "Still Remains" by Fates Warning from their "Disconnected" album.
Ian Gillan was chosen as the first Jesus in the Jesus Christ Superstar rock musical. His range is incredible.
I saw an interview and when Andrew Lloyd Weber was at a Deep Purple concert he told the person he went with I found my Jesus. The range as you mention is well documented on the song from the Opera title I Only Want To Know. Excellent point sir.
John Lord on keyboards, classically trained and played with orchestras
He only sang on the original 1970 concept album.never did the stage act.
@@stevematthews641 along with Keith and Rick
@@ponytrekker8996 I could have sworn he did in England. Saw some images of him in costume on Google. Thanks for the info
Often overlooked in America, Ritchie Blackmore is the bridge between Hendrix and Van Halen and most certainly one of the most important guitarists in Rock/Metal History. One of the true Gods of Guitar.
Yes, Ian Gillan inspired Bruce Dickinson, both however was very influenced by Arthur Brown.
Listen to the song Fire by The Crazy World of Arthur Brown (1968). Brown later performed the song The Tell-tale Heart on Alan Parson's Project - Tales of Mystery and Imagination (1976).
Ian Paice on drums is awesome, you should try Hard Lovin Man off the same album.
Clicked really fast on this one
.cannot imagine how you missed this…….Zeppelin, Purple and Sabbath are the Birth of classic metal. Also you should listen to Blackmore’s next project which was Rainbow with Ronnie James Dio and Cozy Powell . Rainbow Rising is a phenomenal album and worthy of being in any audiophiles collection. The best Deep Purple album is IMHO ‘Machine Head’ again worthy of a whole album dissection.
.Many many riffs and solos for Nick to learn.
Oh and keep rambling……
Love Deep Purple, but love Rainbow (w/ Ritchie Blackmore) even more. So many great songs including "Stargazer" - Epic classic.
Oh, classic Purple are really worth looking into. They clearly are hard rock/proto-metal, but in their earlier years always had some prog tendencies. Great musicians!
I especially like their songs "Speed King", "Lazy" (especially the live in japan version), and "Fireball".
The album 'In Rock' came out in 1970, if I remember correctly. A good time before I was born, but I imagine it must have sounded at least as sonically extreme as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin back then. Also the heaviest album my mother ever owned.
Mega Überraschung am 10.8.2021 new entry auf Platz 2 George Harrison - All things must pass, original release 1970
@@rudolfbecker4313 hallo rudolf.
When you, Nick said, "It's definitely not as heavy..." I burst out laughing. Freight train is coming ad it'll be heavy. 😎👍🍁
If you are going to do "Smoke on the water"- do the live version from "Made in Japan"- never seen a reaction to that version before.
If you want to listen to more 'classic' Deep Purple, put 'Lazy' at the top of your list!
Ian's voice reflects the horror of war embossed in this song.. Every member of purple was/is a fantastic individual which blended perfectly with the others ..
What I love about them is every live performance was a different "jam" never a solo repeated..in a good way ..
Peace and love to you both 👍🏻☮❤
Lots of good Deep Purple songs to check out. This is a good place to start. "Highway Star","Burn","Hush", etc... the lead singer Ian Gillan in his prime, could really cut right through you with his vocals. And I've heard that Ritchie was kind of a jerk too, but he sure could play.
I forgot you did Highway Star already. Oops!
Well, in Burn’s case that would be David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes, while Hush is Rod Evans vocal wise. Gillan though, is the king of the crop.
@@cometogether999 They should do the Made in Japan version, even better than the original. 🎸
By far the best metal / hard rock song ever made in history.
I've read that Steve Harris, Bruce Dickinson and Dave Murray cite Deep Purple as an influencing band
Yeah, you should do the live version that's been floating around. It's pretty close to the original and done very well, but thanx for staying close to the studio versions until you thoroughly understand a band.
Awesome, the album 'In Rock' is a must a rock classic from Speed King to Hard Lovin Man, one of the finest albums ever recorded.
Sorry I missed you dropping this yesterday! The Blackmore/Gillan/Glover/Lord/Paice lineup remains my fave to this day, but I'd encourage you to delve into the full range of Purple, even the earlier lineup from the 60's which will give you some context for how big a leap In Rock really was. It's almost becoming a YT reactor cliche, but the non-Gillan track I'd like to see you take on is Burn with David Coverdale and Glenn Hughes on vocals, Paice absolutely killing a drum kit and Jon Lord being fabulous as usual on various keyboards. And Blackmore may have an uncontainable ego, but he's melting some strings on that tune. Great reaction and hope to see more Purple soon!!
I always found it confusing how they were classified as Heavy Metal….. it is hard rock.
the music genre Heavy metal didn't exist yet in those years, it was made up later. There are many weird theories ....
Deep Purple are a great heavy rock band of the 70's. In this era musicians knew how to paly with tension, build-up and sound volume to convey their message. Video did not exist. Sometimes I think modern heavy metal bands are too one dimensional and stick with that. I see several suggestions below for other songs and yes they are all great. I my view the best albums re Deep Purple in Rock and Machine Head. Try more DP you will be glad you did.
The "problem" of Fireball is, it has 4 great songs, but the other ones are average, probably because there was not much time left after the success of In Rock. Other bands like Uriah Heep or also before CCR in the USA were also driven by their record companies. If you see their output within a few years, they probably laugh about nowadays bands, which release 1 album in 5 years, Uriah Heep had 5 in 3 years, CCR even 6 in 3 years, Zeppelin had 4 in 3 years and that besides all the touring they did in their early years
That doodly, doodly, doodly by Jon on organ and Ritchie on guitar is classic J.S. Bach.
This is why I've always regarded DP as classical rock and in no way heavy metal.
Jon Lord and Ritchie are always happy to say they plagiarise.
All the interviews I've seen by Ritchie contradicts his reputation.
P.S. Check out Nazareth, especially Razamanaz album produce by DP's Roger Glover.
Songs to listen to: Razamanaz: Alcatraz: Night Woman, Bad, Bad Boy: Woke Up This Woman.
I never ever like Whole Lotta Love or Ina Garda Davida (In The Garden Of Eden).
I'm not a teacher, but may I teach you ? :-) the right spelling is In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida Both songs, you don't like are very special, so you always have people who like or don't like it. I rather have this with newer songs, sometimes it's just the voice, which makes you dislike it. The same with Dan McCafferty, many songs I like, but sometimes it's hard to listen to full album, my favourite is Rampant, also excellently produced by Roger Glover.
Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord playing the same notes around 8:40 in your video = awesome!!!
Hi Nick, Hi Lexi. I'm so happy you have now listened to Deep Purple...and the classic Child in Time. I was 13 yrs old when this album In Rock...came out and it blew my mind. The whole album is superb...as are the follow up albums Fireball, Machine Head, Who Do We Think We Are...Burn, Stormbringer, Come Taste The Band..( David Coverdale on vocals) but I am biased 🤣.
There is a brilliant version of this song on the live album Made In Japan.
The album In Rock..was the first actual studio album with Ian Gillan on vocals...the keyboard player was Jon Lord...who was and is a God. He even wrote classical music. You are right about this band being what the phrase Classic Rock means Lexi.
There is so much music from the early 70's to discover. I am a fan of all the bands ..like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Heep, Tull, ELP, Floyd etc . Thank you so much for allowing us to be part of your family. Take care, stay safe. Love and peace from Liverpool UK 👍✌️🤘☮️
Classic rock mainly from the 70s. Easy for people your age to miss, but nostalgically you should catch a few of their songs. Ritchie Blackmore was a good guitarist, but distinctly John Lord on keyboards (who just passed ) was the glue.
Best rock band and rock vocalist of all time.
Sorry guys, I watch your reaction to Highway Star first and commented on the song "Pictures of Home" and I have to mentioned it again because it really does highlight the bands musicianship with everyone getting their own mini solo. Please let me know what you think if you ever check it out, thanks for you both and your genuine reactions to some the best music every made!
Wasn't that epic ? Yes it was ! MASTERPIECE! And 1000 points for your faces, that's why your subscribes love you, the emotions and astonishing caused by fantastic music. And you really should listen to the complete album, it starts with the big bang and like I wrote each song is different and special. And Nick always says the funny things: you burn CDs, but you RECORD cassettes :-) you don't burn them ...
Loved early Uriah Heep! (Check out “Come Away Melinda” which is similar in tone to Child in Time) also from that first album was Gypsy, Real Turned On and Wake Up (Set You Sights)!
Great reaction Nick and Lex to a brilliant song...Ritchie left to form Rainbow with Dio..John Lord the keyboard player left to join David Coverdale's Whitesnake and Ian Gillan had his own band Gillan. Along with Paul Rodgers Free and Bad Co., all amazing 70s Classic Rock worth checking out.
Pau l Rodgers!!! Yesss! Free and Bad Company. ( I know I won't be heard- I'm not paying for you to play.)
Also, can't emphasize enough how good they were live, Made In Japan and Made in Europe are amazing statements, Try Space Trucking off Japan and You Fool No One off Europe, incredible jams these turn into, Richie at his very best. Enjoy! 🎸
Definitely do the live version, Ian really screams...
Hey Guys, great reaction, no need to apologize for not getting into DP earlier, we're all on different journeys in life and eventually musical paths meet. This song blew my mind in 1971 when I first heard it and I never get tired of hearing it. The album is a classic and was the first with the classic line-up of Gillan/Blackmore/Paice/Lord/Glover, Gillan replacing original vocalist Rod Evans and Roger Glover replacing original bassist Nick Simper. I suggest you listen to more material from it, recommend "Flight of the Rat" , "Speed King" "Into the Fire" and "Blood sucker" Best Wishes
I think this is one of the greatest guitar solos in history.. Ritchie did almost 5 minutes of solo on a single chord basis..!!! continued until the end. I challenge all guitarists to be able to play a solo for so long without getting tired the listener and without repeating itself .. !!
I have heard guitarists who after 30 seconds have already played all their cards and become tiring the listener. Also the fantastic sound that only he could bring out ..
Ritchie Blackmore forever the best .. !!
