I like how he's like sorry when he dies while we're all sorry for him because it must be really annoying to die on a screen you practiced for hours and hours And the crowd was awesome
Watching this speedrun as someone who has played chapter 9 to completion just feels SO good. It's amazing to watch this chapter that killed me more than 4000 times get DECIMATED in 20 minutes. itts possibly the most satisfying thing I have ever seen.
Also, the number of times I said "and THATS how I did it when I played it casually!" is really just telling of how amazing this game is. Celeste taught me to speedrun it without me even noticing!
@@MK.5198 My alternative take: this chapter is so brutal that sometimes even speedrunners can't come up with a better strategy than just playing the screen as intended
"It's a really dumb strat and you have to go for it because it saves like five seconds" you speed runners are a different breed of gamer. Keep up the good work and go fast!
It says something about the difficulty of this chapter that a couple of these screens are done the exact same way in a speedrun that you have to do them in a casual playthrough.
I died close to 5000 times on the first half of the level. Took me like, 9 months. A baby was probably born in the time that it took me to beat one level in this game. Edit: I’m going for golden strawberry on it now. Wish me luck. And I finished literally the day before this got posted. So we’ll see how long it takes. I’m thinking years.
I freaking love this chapter, it's basically an entire game in itself. It took longer for me to complete and I died more times to this one level than I did during the entire main game. So satisfying, I freaking love it. Nice job destroying the living shit out of the level dude.
God I fucking love everything about this game. The speedrun tech is so crisp. I don't really have the patience or time to try this stuff myself but it's always so satisfying to see others fly through these levels
I loved celeste and finished it, I was so proud of myself, but after seeing this, I know I couldn't do this chapter :/ I watched a lot of tgh's streams and so impressed with this guy too.
@@ReveLuv1814 that's bullshit. Of course you can do it my guy! It took me 10 hours and 2007 deaths, but however many hours and deaths it takes you doesn't matter. If I got to a tough screen I'd drop it till the next day. You can totally beat this, and when you do it will be one of the best feelings you may ever get from a game.
You can always take break if you can't get through a room. Then come back anytime you feel like you can do it. I just played chapter 9 and I've had so much deaths.
As someone who did barely manage the maingame, not even with all of the b-sides or the c-side: I loved to watch this kind of sorcery I personally will never achieve in this game...
Celeste does a great job raising the difficulty a ton in such a short time, but in a way where it never seems too daunting. Try doing it without assist mode, it're really rewarding.
Man, I remember when my friend group discovered the Sacred Ground endgame in Cave Story and thought that was the hardest platforming we'd ever seen. That's like, midgame difficulty for Celeste
I finished all of Celeste pre farewell without any assists or guides in about 8 hours. I had to use guides, assists and it took me 11 hours for this chapter. God speed
I’m pretty sure I spent as much time on that last screen as I did the entire game. I was on it for weeks. It’s a shame that final song give me a nightmares because it’s SO GOOD
How long is the last chapter? Well, the speedrun of it is almost as long as the speedrun of the entire base game. This is incredible. Also 4:14 is how I cleared that room on my first run-through and I still don't know how to clear that room the intended way.
Late reply but you go left and bounce off the spring to get dash back. Then you throw jellyfish through spikes and dash through gap to land on other spring and keep going.
@@RobinClower Oh, I only played it for the story/ending. Then I tried to complete it normally. About halfway through I turned on Assist Mode (I can't wave-dash properly, so I got stuck on some/most screens for hours)
Great runner, great couch, great video. 23:53 Actually, you can use binoculars to see all the way to the electricity box but cannot look upwards at all. And, personally, the parts that aren't in the big horizontal line, did not need much planning and were much more straight-forward. P.S. I just want to share the funny fact that I failed at the 25:09 part. Only beat Farewell once (obviously, I did it casually).
I just finished chapter 9 and it took me 5459 deaths to beat it. But by the end, I was able to consistently do the final screen for trying to get the moon berry.
Does anyone know how you can put down a parachute without throwing it left/right? I keep trying to do it, but have no idea how. Sorry if it's a dumb question
I clicked on this video very confused because "Celeste in 20:35" is *faster than the TAS.* While it makes perfect sense, I was disappointed to find the reason is that this is a *farewell* run, not any%
been 2 weeks but I hope this can help anyone else that wonder the same thing. If I recall it correctly, it's called neutral wall jump, you have to jump without directional input (left or right), then quickly move to the wall again.

And the crowd was awesome
I mean who cares if he died few times there and there, he tried to showcase all the hard strats and we all had fun watching him, that's what matter.
Pretty sure I would finish chapter 9, 100 times longer than he did. I'm even still at the jelly fish part.
The fact that an experienced speedrunner died, like, a dozen times and took over 20 minutes makes me feel pretty vindicated
I think stress was a big factor here
@@mico3 probably. especially since he was at GDQ

look up a golden berry run :)
Dude I raged out and haven’t tried it since
"chapter that killed me more then 4000 times"
Look at Failboat: *4299 times died* yeah understandable.
"It's a really dumb strat and you have to go for it because it saves like five seconds" you speed runners are a different breed of gamer. Keep up the good work and go fast!
The last screen of farewell has been burned into my mind such a marathon
The RTA return of caffeine-driven Madeline, now speedrunning her way through the five stages of grief.
How fast can *you* get through the 5 stages of grief? Madeline can do it all in just over 20 minutes.
It says something about the difficulty of this chapter that a couple of these screens are done the exact same way in a speedrun that you have to do them in a casual playthrough.
That's what I was wondering: is he playing normally or am I playing like a speedrunner?
@@hekirb3382 a lot of these screens kinda force you to play like a speedrunner, so both
dude it took me twelve hours to complete that chapter
Haha speedrun Madeline go br
Took me 22
Just finished it in 13 hours and 44 minutes. Then another 6 hours to get Moon Berry.
As someone who has casually played this, how.
Pain and determination

Got the golden yet ?
are close are you to golden?

That was beyond incredible. I’m so blown away by the skill shown here. Go flarebear!

Anyone when they hear demodash: crouching while dashing
Me when I hear demodash: *drunken scottish soldier noises intensifies*
Even tho listening to the soundtrack is not the main point of a speedrun, Lena is so freaking good that the OST doesn’t go unnoticed.
There is 0% chance that I am finishing that chapter without accessibility mode.
u should try it, its ultra rewarding

I said the same thing. And here I am, about to finish it with the moon berry
Beautiful to watch. Respect to the Flarebear
I've not even managed to complete this chapter yet... and here you are in 20 minutes decimating it.

Watching someone do in 20 minutes what took me many MANY hours and whole lot of swearing is pretty incredible :)
Wow, that was pretty damn awesome!
How did I not notice this in my notification box when it was posted?

This is a reason why Assist Mode is my best friend. I would never be able to complete it this fast. And it took me 4 hours.
The devs have really thought of every type of player from casual to top-level speed running
After 3+ hours on the final screen I finally turned on assist mode to just see the ending. Someday I'm going to go back and beat it.....

Once I thought I was decent at Celeste. But I gotta say this chapter broke my will. Don't think I'll ever beat it. VERY impressive run here.

It shouldn't be. You should be proud of your accomplishment.
I took the upper path my first time playing because I thought it was a secret. Does that just mean it’s an alt route or?

Zachary Putnam 700 times? I died almost 10000 times lol
Was there not an any% run this year?
