- rdot is a Swedish company that is developing and commercializing a low-cost and energy-efficient electrochromic display technology. The reflective and screen-printed displays can be made in both small and large areas and in many different colors, shapes, and forms. They are targeting a wide range of applications, such as industrial IoT, medical technology devices, wearable technology, and smart surfaces. The company also demonstrated a high-reflectance RGB pixel that is the starting point of a high-resolution, full-color reflective display.

Imagine using this at a grocery store for price labels on the shelves. Corporate sends out a price change for a particular product and it updates in every store immediately. That's one idea, but I foresee many uses for this. Thanks for sharing.
David Stoler that's one great idea
Fixed, thanks.
This would be a dramatic improvement over the existing electronic shelf labels.
eink does the same... You energize it once and it stays forever...
David Stoler where I live there is a store where every single pricetag is an lcd display, it is kinda ridiculous but i guess its the future.
I was initially unimpressed until he said "yeah...we're talking cents". That really got my attention. Good job, Rdot! Hopefully this works out.
Very promising technology. Please push a big lot on Aliexpress so that makers can get their hands on it.
That's a good idea. What kind of segment design do you think is suitable? 4x7 segment? :) //Felix at rdot displays
Something like in the link below. But ultra low power and slim. The dimensions should be such that two displays can be put side by side to create 8 or 12 digit displays. Many applications need a simple display but power consumption and size of conventional 7 segment led is high making it unusable for modern battery powered applications. www.aliexpress.com/item/5PCS-0-36-inch-4-digit-led-display-7-seg-segment-Common-cathode-Red/32673704841.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.23.7b5346fdmszwwk&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_5_10152_10065_10151_10344_10068_10342_10343_10059_10340_10341_10696_100031_10084_10083_10103_524_10618_10624_10307_10623_10622_10621_10620,searchweb201603_2,ppcSwitch_5&algo_expid=08b17f32-5fa9-4d6c-bd27-5d8f55df7b28-3&algo_pvid=08b17f32-5fa9-4d6c-bd27-5d8f55df7b28&priceBeautifyAB=0
I say 4x7 because people know 4x7 already and would feel comfortable getting on board. It communicates that the product is simple to use and cost effective, without having to say so. You can optionally have additional segments for battery indication, signal strength etc. Or a nice 16 segment display
Very cool technology Felix. Good luck to you guys, I hope you can capture a chunk of the e-ink market.
If I could only wish for one design on Alibaba and digikey then I would like to see a 40mm 7-segment dual-digit digit display with a decimal dot, and electrodes on the upper or lower end. As slim as possible on the sides so as to allow forming of 4-digit or 6-digit displays with consistent pitch.
Thanks a lot. We'll try to make it happen as soon as possible! We'll let you know. If you go to our website www.rdotdisplays.com and download the datasheet, we'll know how to contact you :)
(we're working on a new web, it's not very much information at the moment...)
Since you are talking cents why not push a 4 digit 7 segment display at same cost as a conventional LED based display. Many people will prefer it because of the low power consumption and slim form factor. This will popularize the technology.
Well I think in future it will really worth to pixelize this technology and sell displays for low cost CMY color e-readers. How cool would it be? No one would ever use paper from trees. Add a touch panel and you have an awesome e-note. Given the right amount of investment the possibilities are enormous.
this guy did a very good job!
Really really good. These scandinavians are a genius! I'm a quarter Danish and I'm proud of our swede neighbors.
I think they can make phone cases with this technology. So we can use one phone case with different colors. It can be exciting.
Congratulations! So good..
This is a great product :)
These guys look ambitious
Amazing tech... It can come in handy.
AMAZING!!!
AWESOME!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Pretty cool!
I think that tech can be used in clothing too, as a new sci-fi clothing like in tron legacy
I like em!!
you can use it as camouflage. the camera that captures the image from the environment will send it to this display after proper processing
awesome man
It could save energy, good idea
He is right the young engineer.
So cool.
if i get it right, it would stays that state in an hour? if it applied to digital watch, it could be a good battery saving. a clock signal will send a pulse to change every minutes and cut the supply afterwards. that way it could prolong the battery life of the clock.
This will be bad news for battery company’s because the sales of battery’s will be dropped down .
nice but how compact can it get and will it be efficient even when it has high res
Waow. Mi lave dawt tekh.
I see potential in making foreign exchange display boards and with an app interface the rates can be changed conveniently.
This is what we are looking for. Animated posters and banners . May be future we can see this feature with car 😎😎😎
Amazing
It would be nice if the next smartphones, instead of the e-ink, had this type of screen! :)))
Is a "television" the new "circuit board". A flexible screen like a colour ink to paper process. A layer of shelf labels.
Cool
Can they be stuck over a cellphone screen and can be made a bigger display and touch. Because most have cellphone and they just need a bigger screen on demand.
腕時計の回路がシンプル過ぎて良い
Basically very impressive! But please let your chemists do over-hours to increase the contrast. I would really like to see this tech to replace paper signs in many stores as it can reduce daily paper waste drastically.
Do you have any update on this?
Будущее наступило!
Excellent interview. Are these in anything on the market yet?
does it get burn in?
Very interesting...And can I buy some custom SSD displays from you.....?
How big you can go...?
whats the latency
Nice
Display by plastic?
I WANT THAT WATCH
can it make windows and glass roof in Tesla to switch between totally black and transparent and 50% faded?
Constantine Romanchuk it’s a damn display not a smart glass
does it will be a next step to smartphones, TVs, and others?
Please do equivalent of 1601,,,4,,,8 series
Is this some kind of "electrowetting" technology?
I thought about electrochromium readers ten years ago.
Somebody somewhere is making our Dreams come tru, funny huh
@@ELbabotas1 i have a lot more left )
Just take my money
I want that watch
"We're talking cents.... Cents? Per square centimeter..."
Change the color of your phone
İnan Kınabaş Aslında bu teknolojiyle telefon kılıfı yapılabilir. Ve bir uygulama aracılığıyla renkleri değiştirebilir.
C'mon China new product has come😁👍
Lol
where can i order these?
Hi Abhimanyu. We have evaluation kits for sale. You can contact me at felix.karlsson@rdotdisplays.com - Thanks!
I want the watch...
i want the watch
The last right guy is astronaut 😵 NASA name is jhon
but duude, with a bendable display why do you do a circular display on the watch?
Stetic
The CEO's name is the same as pewdiepie
They should partnership with Chinese brands to reach more demand
If any rdot people see this, contact me, as soon as this is in the market.
Hi Ronin. You can contact me at felix.karlsson@rdotdisplays.com - thank you!
Based on E Paper Display used in Amazon Kindle Reader. Nothing new here.
Sounds like the guy recording knew more than the CEO
let's just call it oled
That's nice.. 4ppi monochromatic.. We do have phones with 458 ppi with millions of colors already.. and the value of flexible displays isn't that great until you can move those pixels at 30 per second or greater.. rather like seeing 1820s technology for refrigeration today.
You're missing the point lol
lol. And who are you?!!!
Felix
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!
Micro LED technology is still better
Lol when asked about what is the mcu is it a ST ? He uhm its aaaaaaaaaaaa? Haha hahaha didn't even know his product specs
E ink is the same thing that works better and can stay on forever. This is a shitty rip-off.
