I vote you do a Goodreads choice awards vlog, but only with the books you actually want to read. :) And maybe even some that you thing should have made it but didn't.
6:55 throwing in my vote for you to do content around goodreads blog posts. i adore your reading projects. it's one of my fave things about your channel! especially because i don't follow anyone else who does them as authentically as you.
GR choice awards season is my favorite for all the booktube content around it! So much fun to see the processes for predictions, reading the categories, how close anyone’s predictions get, etc. LOVE. IT. ❤️
i was JUST craving some goodreads content and opened my app to rewatch some vids from last year and look what I see in my sub box! just what i wanted, thank you mara 🙏
I sat here talking to you through the whole video LOL. I love Tana French but not sure The Hunter will make the top 10. It is the second in a series and I suspect diehard readers will have read and voted for others on the list-- specifically The God of the Woods (which is my pick to win).
Thank you for voting!!! I've been mostly out of the loop for new mysteries this year, so this video is a terrific resource to catch up on the books I might be interested in. Seems like it's Freida McFadden's world, and we're all living in it--get your bag, sis! PS: Lev AC Rosen continues to put out great queer mysteries (IMO, obviously), and it's a shame to not see him anywhere here.
I'm in the middle of First Lie Wins and enjoying it. Mysteries have always been my favorites. I started with Nancy Drew, went on to Perry Mason, still like finding new authors. I've been reading far more non-fiction these days. So here's my burning question: What's with all the green on book covers this year? Even the same shade. Who managed to get THAT contract? I enjoy wandering through your past videos, especially the booklist that accompanied the religious deconstruction era. You're an insightful reader and reviewer, and you and Jess are a great team. Best wishes. Shannon
Please please, I’ve been begging for years - HOW do you keep track of new releases/upcoming TBR/ hype books etc. Love your channel, but I really want to know how y’all stay so informed because I feel like I learn everything from Booktok and am still so behind on the times.
I wish there were more subcategories under mystery/thriller. Very few of the books chosen are books I read under this category. Having subcategories would give deserving books and authors the opportunity to get their books recognized. The Cozy mystery could handle being its own. Psychology thriller. Historical mystery. Suspense Thriller. Police procedural/private detective. Paranormal. I don’t understand why there aren’t more subcategories under the various genres.
I agree you should do a blog with the nominees you want to read, and maybe a similar title you thought should have been nominated and maybe then decide which was the better book
Niiicce one... And please do the specific list based project reads, pretty please... Also, let kitty's pick the Goodreads winner so we can be Legally mad at Goodreads, if they don't go with them picks! 😼👑💙👍👍
lmao "oh my god, ANOTHER Freida McFadden?!" cracked me up, esp because I just watched Meg's prediction video and knew there were three this year. but yes, love these videos. I probably won't read the vasty majority of those but somehow it makes these videos more fun. for actual reading, the Sign of the Rook one does sound good, though!!
this looks like a pretty solid list! (in terms of accuracy for what will probably happen, not quality of books of course lol) I always love watching other people put out their predictions so I couldn't resist watching this before I make mine but it should be coming soon haha
My guess for the win is First Lie Wins. It has the numbers and the Freida McFadden vote will be split if more than one makes it to the top 10 which is very likely. Also the reviews I've seen for The Teacher the content is...whew. I know it has a high ish rating, but with the vote likely to be split(and many of her fans will vote for the housemaid book because it's part of a wildly popular series) I don't think it's popular enough to beat the Reese's book club standout thriller of the year
i think Liane and Laura Dave are definitely making it despite the low ratings, because they always throw newer books in there that haven’t had time to get a lot of ratings yet and those authors are too popular to not get in. Lucy Foley also definitely making top 10 imo, her last 2 books did really well
I'm so excited for the GR Choice Awards. Not for the awards themselves, but for the drama that always comes from them. It's like watching trashy reality tv
The way you talk about Laura Dave is how I feel about Mary Kubica...unfortunately, I've come to feel that because I find it bland and boring, a lot of people who don't read much will like it, so it will prob do well at something like the Goodreads Choice Awards.
God of the Woods was good, not a new favorite, but a very well-done historical mystery (I would never call it horror). I would love to see it win. I really, really hope The Teacher doesn't win 😭 I didn't like it and after it, I don't expect to read anything else from the author.
My sister loved the Laura Dave one last year, and hated this one. I think you could remove that one this year. The God of the Woods wins I think. It’s everywhere.
I vote you do a Goodreads choice awards vlog, but only with the books you actually want to read. :) And maybe even some that you thing should have made it but didn't.
And don't be afraid to slam that eject button and DNF when necessary.
ooo that's an idea!
But please can we have one that you know will bring out the Mara salt…. 🥹
Your reaction: “aNoThEr Frieda McFadden?” 😂 my thoughts exactly
I’ve seen a few comments like this and I second - you should absolutely do a GoodReads vlog but only with the books you actually want to read!

I like the Halloween animation you've added to your intro.

I am here to deliver!
I think God of the Woods will be a top mystery pick.
The more I look around, the more I think you’re right!
I was just going to say this! It was a Book of the Month so I think it's a strong contender for one of those literary-bent ones

Yes, the Goodreads Choice Awards is a popularity contest but it is also a contest of Amazon’s agenda 😊
really excited for your live reaction!! hope you can do it again with jess. that was so much fun last year and i loved all your insights:)
The God of the Woods is definitely the lit fic mystery of the year (I've seen a lot of people feel like it was too lit fic and not enough mystery)
Please please, I’ve been begging for years - HOW do you keep track of new releases/upcoming TBR/ hype books etc.

Loved The Teacher.

Vlog 😂
Is it sad that I’m hoping that Freida McFadden only gets 2 books in and they cut the Boyfriend? Surely 2 books are enough
Niiicce one...

So far my favorite is first lie wins
Let’s hope the 3 from F McF spilts her vote and we actually get a decent winner (Richard Osman 😊)

Happy Spooktober!
Also, here for Goodreads Choice discourse 👏🏽
forgot the awards usually come out in November
Enjoyed The Hitchcock Hotel.

I felt better about my list after seeing yours since you use legit data 😹

Mara I miss seeing your face!
I guess I need to give Frieda Mcfadden a try.

The fact that every year booktubers ignore the criteria "books that were translated for other languages" is so funny (it's not)
