Yes it's good to be reminded just how good Jimi was. Without him I doubt very much that the music that we listen to today would be the same. He led the way for future guitar players and influenced so many.
This performance was the American public's first introduction to Jimi as we know him today. He was of course already a big star in the UK and this is why I consider him as part of the British Blues/Rock invasion.
    Hope everyone enjoyed this.
    Cheers all. 😊😎🎸🇬🇧🇺🇦

🎸🎸 I only got to see Jimi twice, Lewiston Maine 1968 and Fillmore East 1970. Yes, he did play with his teeth and behind his neck.

Jimi just chewing on things. I've got "Monterey Pop" in my collection, and it is a favorite to pull out every now and then. I actually went to Monterey in 1986, when my brother was there, pretty cool to still see the fair grounds where this event happened. Another amazing guitarist who takes a pass at "Hey Joe" is Roy Buchanan, available from the TV show "Austin City Limits", really great. Thanks Steve, thanks a real lot.

If I'm not mistaken, this was Hendrix's first performance in the United States after coming back from England with the Experience (he was a veteran of the Chitlin Circuit in the States before going abroad). Because of all of that, he pulled out all of the stops in his Monterrey Pop set.

A quick story regarding Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead. Back in the 60's Quicksilver and the Grateful Dead often played back to back and jammed with each other. One night after the Dead and Quicksilver had finished Jimi came up to them and said he wanted to jam with them and they set a time and place in a week or so later after both bands were done for the night. When the time came they were really tired after a long night and the waited until after dawn for Jimi but he never showed up. A week or so later they asked Jimi why and he said that he met this girl and they dropped acid and f'ed all night. Needless to say Jerry was a bit pissed.

I disagree with you his voice guitar and the generation he grew up was the perfect storm.
