So well put. The backyard kid. I grew up in Cincinnati and we couldn't afford to go up to Columbus to watch a game. We watched every Saturday. So to see Jack and that team have that moment (as a sixty plus year old) I just couldn't have been happier. GO BUCKS!
Those who are not old enough to have been there cannot understand the greatness that was the 1968-69 season. We beat Michigan 50-14, then beat USC and OJ Simpson in the Rose Bowl. OJ came into the Ohio State locker room after the game and said, "You're the best ball team in the country and don't let anybody tell you you aren't. Congratulations."
Ryan Day's Top-5 record takes a major boost. If Ohio State beats Notre Dame, Ohio Sate would be the only team in history to beat 5 Top-5 teams in one season.
Ive lived through the past two titles but ive enjoyed this team more than any of those past squads. The season itself obviously isn’t my favorite given the loss to TTUN, but I’ve loved Will since he got to campus, I love Jack, Trey and the guys from that 2021 class. The attitude these guys have and the way they genuinely seem on a mission makes me so happy to watch. Jobs not done, go bucks

The national championship game against Miami is the first Ohio State game I ever watched. Been a fan ever since. So that game will always be special to me.
I loved that title. No one gave them a chance against Miami. Also who can forget the Purdue game that year. If that 4th down pass isn't made, they never get to the Miami game.
I'm 67 years old and played semi pro football until i was 42 years old and wore no. 33 for most of my career and i have been a ohio state fan since i was a little boy the jack sawyer play meant absolutely everything to me for a moment in time it brought me back to when i was young and played football it was glorious . Go buckeyes win it all we are so proud of this team.
The biggest thing for me is just how quickly the team rebounded from Nov 30th. That was a devastating loss, and even with the expanded playoff, it's easy to see how that game would cause thw team to spiral out of control. Not only did they NOT do that, they got significantly better than they were all year, and did so in a 3 game run that is probably the toughest stretch in Ohio State history. One more game and this team can become legendary.
Man, I Love you guys so much! I Love this team so much! You guys are doing the best podcasts I’ve ever been a part of. THE Podcast and KOTN have seriously changed my life.
I'd have to say 2002, only because it was the first championship for me as a Cleveland/OSU fan of my life (born in 1969). Plus, who they beat, and how they beat them up along the way. It was the only game I've ever ran out the front door into the street screaming for joy, and this at 1am on January 4, 2003, when it was cold and snow on the ground. Never forget it. I also went to the celebration at the 'Shoe. It was the coldest celebration I've ever been to. Serious cold, but still worth it.
I’m old enough to remember the 02’ and 14’ runs. But for me, personally, this one is the most special because I have kids now. And we are sooo enjoying watching this team! GO BUCKEYES!!
The reason 02 doesn't get the love it deserves its because it was 23 years ago. 02 basically put us back on the map I'm assuming most of the people watching this don't even have memories of that time let alone were alive.
I was at that game in 02. I Will always remember how many of us were in stadium ( Fiesta Bowl was played at ASU back in the day) A very special season and special game ( Buckeyes went 14 and 0) 😊

i remember it well. at our house on 11th. as everyone, literally everyone on Campus poured onto the streets as the game ended i lost a shoe. good times.

2002 not being the Top Choice just shows how young the text subscribers must be because there's literally no comparison. 14 was awesome because of the Alabama dynamic and this year's Squad may be my actual favorite in terms of loving the individual players, but what are we even talking about right now? Biggest Underdog in national title game history and rightfully so. Do people not remember how insanely untouchable Miami was? They won 34 straight games and then you throw in the Maurice Clarett strip on the interception? I can give some Credence to any old heads you were alive in 1968 but absolutely ridiculous to choose anything else besides the 2002 Buckeyes
I was born in 1950. When the faculty at OSU turned down the Rose Bowl invitation in 1961, it affected Woody Hayes' recruiting for several years. In fact, he said if we wouldn't have won at MSU in 1967, he and his staff would be fired. With the help of Lou McCullough, OSU had a great freshman class who would not be eligible to play until the next year. The "super sophs" were beating the varsity in practice. The next year, the "super sophs" beat Michigan 50 - 14 and then defeated #1 USC in the Rose Bowl (27 -16) to win the national championship. That season saved Woody's job. His last 10 years, OSU's record was a sterling 88 - 20 - 3 (81%). The Buckeyes were back. His last ten years was the "ten year war" Between Woody and Bo (Woody's former student and player). Michigan never seems to give Ohio State credit for producing their back-to-back coaches (Bo and Mo) who learned their trade at OSU. Those two Ohioans won 16 of Michigan's 45 Big Ten championships. Prior to their arrival in Ann Arbor, Michigan's football program was awful from 1951 - 1968.
@thomascook4318 that's an awesome story and I remember my old man telling me about the super sophomores and would have been cool to witness that's why I said the 1968 team has Creedence along with the 2002 team. The younger generation just doesn't understand how spoiled Buckeye nation has been even though we should have like a half dozen more national championships in the past 25 years
@@Edward_USMC13 I have been following OSU football since 1961 but have read about every book on the history of Ohio State football. The Buckeyes were close to winning national championships in 1935, 1944, 1969, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1979, 1996, 1998, 2006, 2007, 2015, 2019, 2020 (routed by Bama), and 2022. Hopefully we can win it on January 20.
It's close...... With the 2014 team alot of the fanbase thought we were done after JT Barrett went down. Cardale Jones hadn't started a single college game in his career and came in the 2nd half of the Michigan game and WON the game. Then the narrative was "OSU won't win a natty with a backup QB" they proceed to beat Wisconsin by 50 in the BIG title game. They were double digit dawgs against Alabama and then had to beat the Heisman trophy winner in Marriota and Jones did it ALL without skipping a beat!!

Ive been an OSU fan since 1999. After seeing all the playoff losses since we won in 14-15, all in heartbreaking fashion, i care a lot more about winning a Nattie than beating Michigan atm. I still havent healed since Clemson and Georgia losses. The fumble recovery definitely mattered, it stopped OSU from needing to get a 1st down deep in territory while UT had timeouts and only being up a td. UT could have got ball back with over 1 minute left to tie again.
2002 will ALWAYS be my #1!!! I was 19 years old 1st year outta high school, watching those guys made me wish I was out there on the field...There's no argument about it when u think about WHO we beat....That Miami team was indestructible....I'd almost put them against any all-time great team...After that game I made the proclamation that I would name my 1st born son after Coach Tressel...and I did..
‘A Win is a Win’ & ‘Win And Advance’ are best you could say about this game - as Sarkisian said Postgame, OSU made 2 great plays: Henderson Screen breakout to house at end of 1st half and Sawyer Sack/Strip/Score at end of game…
And all the great plays made on defense in between those 2 plays. And the 4th quarter drive that included that 4th down conversion Will Howard run. Those are the 2 most memorable explosive plays, but there were so many other important, "gotta have it" plays outside of those plays also.
A.) Pretty sure #3 was the 4th guy blitzing if you will with the late pressure on the Treveyon screen who ran right past Treveyon and he's a DB. Just fyi. B.) 2002 can't be touched. Living through the 90's, the cardiac nature of the season with a great leader, the excitement of Clarett & Chris Gamble mania and the David & Goliath ending beating a team full of future NFL stars in their house iirc.
Watching from home, when Trey took that screen home, I was thinking about all he's been through in his career, then watching him run the last 30 yards like he's Zeke Elliot, I'm sure his mind is racing, then putting his finger up in the air, giving glory to God. Man, I had to dig out the band playing Hang on Sloopy and jar the neighbors out of bed with it. Being a tOSU lifer is all about following these players and their journeys. redemption for Jack, Will Howard, both lines, Caleb, Gee, RYAN, all of it. Seeing how these guys fought to overcome such strong adversity, it's not just a game, a team, a championship season. It's a paragon for all to aspire to.
Only 4 other teams in the history of college football has beaten 4 top 5 teams in one year. They all won the title. If OSU beats ND, they would have beaten 5 top 5 teams and set a new record.
Guys, in the comments section of almost any CFB show, there a numerous trolls acting like TCUN winning an effectively meaningless regular season game is equivalent to a natty and discounts any subsequent success by OSU as worthless. I think they do this in part because OSU fans have become deranged when it comes to the rivalry. Constantly revisiting the loss this year only worsens that. Let’s enjoy the moment and adjust our perspective. 1) Although many pretend that it didn’t happen, OSU DID win the game in 2019. Day can therefore obviously beat Michigan. 2) TCUN are called TCUN because they DID cheat their balls off in 2021 and 2022. Sorry, but those games don’t count. If someone cheats on a test, they didn’t get an A. They got an F. 3) TCUN teams Day was coaching against from 2021 to 2023 were significantly better than any of the teams Urban went against (w/possible exception of 2016 team), and he was doing so at a massive competitive disadvantage. So, sure, let’s be salty about 2023 & 2024 every now and then, but let’s enjoy the moment. Don’t give the trolls more power over you. The insanity surrounding this rivalry is negatively impacting the team and coaching staff. I lived in Michigan in 2020, and TCUN fans weren’t foaming at the mouth about The Game. They sure as hell wanted to win, but they weren’t comparing the losses to the death of family members.
Yes, if OSU fans were thinking clearly, they would cling to the cheating not the loss this year that basically means nothing. Saban is the best to ever do it, and his response to D. Howard was spot on. IF they pull this off, no one but xichigan trolls will even remember or care about that game.
"You will never know the exquisite pain of the guy who goes home alone. Cause without the bitter, baby, the sweet ain't as sweet." - Vanilla Sky Without the sour, the sweet would never be as sweet. Praise God for redemption!
I challenge everyone on this chat to get back to working out after perhaps imbibing too many calories over the holiday and harness the Bucks’ grit and perseverance in our own workouts. Love our Bucks! Let’s Go, Bucks! Let’s do this!
Some of these fans need to stop. They are so good at game calling and play. Why aren’t they playing or coaching? Why? Because they are everything they criticize.
To the person who says the game reminded him of his childhood when Tressel and Meyer who never let him down. Well you were obviously a child with a revisionist history- Tressel lost to Wisconsin in 2001, 2004, 2005, and 2010. To Michigan in 2003. Blasted in Championship games vs Florida and LSU. Crushed by USC. Lost a big game to Texas as well as a bowl game. Lost to Iowa 33-7 in 2004 and to Purdue in 2004 and 2009. Meyer gave up 55 points in a loss to Iowa and 49 points to Purdue. Lost to Michigan State in 2013 and 2015, both of which kept OSU from possible national championships. Got manhandled by Clemson in 2018 and embarrassed 31-0 vs Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. Love that Tressel, Meyer, and Day have been the coaches, but can we stop with the narrative that Day is the only OSU coach outside of Cooper to lose a big game?
Big guy, what is "a lot under Day"?? He has an 88% winning %. a 93% winning % in the Big Ten. He has won 65% of games against Top 10 teams. I DARE YOU to name a current coach who has a better record
I diisagree that the fumble scoop and score was not necessary. There was still over 2 min left and texas had their timeouts. To have to live through osu trying to run the clock out and maybe punting it back and giving texas a shot is not something I needed. The scoop and score put the game away for good.
Defense: Pretty good early on however, for a defense who said they prided themselves in being more ready/set pre-snap looked confused & clueless & never set up from 2nd quarter on, also lots of missed tackles for loss and to allow first downs that better tackling would have prevented - ND skill on Offense is limited BUT tackling MUST improve to win Natty…
@@LA-hh1yd Your football intellect is lacking. Texas came up with the best defense to cause Ohio State problems. Ohio State had more silly penalties than they had all year. Knowles was way too aggressive with blitzes on the only long plays Texas had.
Reality Of Game: Other than just 2 drives (first & last ones) the Offense scuffled badly with dis-jointed bad play calling & stupid costly Penalties - a lot needs fixed and improved if want to Win Natty against even better ND Defense…
Remember, we were playing 150 miles from Austin. Every time OSU is in a bowl game we seem to play USC in the Rose Bowl (11 miles from the USC campus), LSU in the Sugar Bowl (80 miles from Baton Rouge) and Georgia in Atlanta (50 miles from Athens). If I were working on a Ph.D. in sports information, the topic of my dissertation would be: "The correlation between winning national championships and geography." I wish men from the midwest would have established bowl games in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Minneapolis and Detroit, etc. 100 years ago.
@@taxisquad11 Young man, please have some manners. I am 75 and not an "in your face" type of person. People are so hostile nowadays. One of my children is like that, too.
The fact that Jeremiah was held to the stat line he was against Texas is an indictment on our coaching staff. You cannot allow a team to dictate terms like that on us. Scheme him open! No excuses!
Cold Hard Fact: I have been critical of LB S. Styles as ‘weak link’ in OSU Defense and it was blatantly obvious that Texas Coaches agreed with me b/c they exploited #6 lack of discipline in his assignments for nearly EVERY BIG PLAY Texas had in game…
Don't act as if you know more than anybody else. Ryan Days job was in jeopardy and there is no denying that. If they would have lost against Tennessee his ass was gone. I for one would not have had a problem with that. He earned it up to that point.
@@Dmb596 LIAR......only in the small minds of ignorant hater fans was Day's job in jeopardy. There has NEVER been a head coach with Days stats been fired in the history of college football.
@@Dmb596 No acting, a FACT. Only small minded ignorant fans wanted Day fired. AND they are meaningless. THIS is what would happen if Day would have been fired, Worse than what happened when Saban retired. Hartline would have left, with his 5-star WRs And Ohio State would not have gotten another 5-star WR. No more 5-State QBs would come to Ohio State. They ALL want to play for Ryan Day, THE best QB head coach in the country. All of the best players on the roster would enter the portal. The best players in the current recruiting class would leave. The best recruiting class Ohio State could expect would be 20th. It would be a decade of.500 seasons. Only dunces like you are ok with that. And all the great plays made on defense in between those 2 plays. And the 4th quarter drive that included that 4th down conversion Will Howard run. Those are the 2 most memorable explosive plays, but there were so many other important, "gotta have it" plays outside of those plays also.
@80zBaby yes Sir, to deny the many plays made is reductive
Sark forget about the great play by the 2 best safeties in the county on his questionable call
Did you hear Chris Fowler call TreVeyon Henderson "Cardion Henderson" on that 75 yrd. TD?
@@DDKaraokeOutlaw SO WHAT???
In the words of Al Davis. Just Win Baby, who cares how. Life is an exercise in practicality
I was there too and it was like please dont let this one get away. I feel like it was 60/40
As an ohio kid (born in 1960 ) I'm for last nights play because he's a Ohio kid.
O-H!!
I-O!!! 🅾️🌰
The ALCS Red Sox Yankees had to be pretty intense
68 2nd grade beat (OJ) USC
And Indiana!
Cause without the bitter, baby, the sweet ain't as sweet." - Vanilla Sky
Without the sour, the sweet would never be as sweet.
Praise God for redemption!
Tress and Urban never let you down? Amnesia??
I challenge everyone on this chat to get back to working out after perhaps imbibing too many calories over the holiday and harness the Bucks’ grit and perseverance in our own workouts. Love our Bucks! Let’s Go, Bucks! Let’s do this!
Some of these fans need to stop. They are so good at game calling and play. Why aren’t they playing or coaching? Why? Because they are everything they criticize.
The truth is...they are know nothing nobodies
Did anyone else notice Denzel Burke didn’t play in the second half last night?
Dude talking about Tress and Urban never let him down is ridiculous. He must’ve been hibernating through ‘06-‘08 and 2013,2015, and 2017
Kind of crazy to say, but Will Howard does not get enough credit.
OSU 42, Notre Dame 17
It’s 2002 and it’s not close. This season won’t top that, but I think it supplants 2014 for me if they finish the job.
Urban Meyer never let you down are you sure?😂
Best season could be 1973....i think the defense had like 5 shutouts and despite a tie in Michigan a Rose Bowl win against USC 42-21
To the person who says the game reminded him of his childhood when Tressel and Meyer who never let him down. Well you were obviously a child with a revisionist history-
Tressel lost to Wisconsin in 2001, 2004, 2005, and 2010.
Need Jeremiah vs Trey 100 yard dash
Mine would have been 1968.
We win Natty just about 12 yrs apart on average 😮 i believe we are due
Ask Lou holtz
A MUCH bigger low would be beating Michigan, but not winning the MUCH more important National Title
STUPID call in comment. Our problem over the previous 4 years was the defensive problems not the offense
CLUELESS
there was some snaps were they looked like that but to say from the 2nd quarter on lol I think you’re clueless
@@LA-hh1yd Your football intellect is lacking. Texas came up with the best defense to cause Ohio State problems. Ohio State had more silly penalties than they had all year. Knowles was way too aggressive with blitzes on the only long plays Texas had.
@ and Texas wasn’t aggressive to end the half ? Smh mfer stfu
Don’t count your chickens.
One more battle left. Tbh it doesn't matter what rat poison the media and fans toss out. This team is locked in.
Yeah I tuned out when they started celebrating
And lost to a unranked michigan team. In the words of woody Hayes if you don't win the game national championship means nothing
@@thomascook4318 DUNCE... the location of this game had NO bearing on the results of this game.
The offense "scuffled" ONLY due to so many penalties. There was no disjointed play calling. The Texas defense caused the disjointing
@@taxisquad11 Young man, please have some manners. I am 75 and not an "in your face" type of person. People are so hostile nowadays. One of my children is like that, too.
I can’t ever watch you guys. Way too many commercials.
The fact that Jeremiah was held to the stat line he was against Texas is an indictment on our coaching staff. You cannot allow a team to dictate terms like that on us. Scheme him open! No excuses!
All of u hypocrites.... Wanted the coach fired .after Michigan, but now you all love him again. 20million finally working.. lmao 🤣 hypocrites
Underachieve. Jesus. No he fans need to know their place.
Underachieve. Jesus. No he fans need to know their place. I don’t care about Michigan
IGNORAMUS....Texas's long plays were due to blitzes called at a bad time. Your critique is BS
Are the loser Ryan Day haters calling in?
THINK......about it.....if capable
NO head coach in the history of college football has ever been fired with the record Ryan Day has. Which is the best of all active coaches in college football
Asking those questions at that time doesn’t make you a hater or ignorant. On the other being a blind follower does make you a sycophant. He turned it around. Good for him, but don’t act like thinking it was reasonable to wonder if he should have this job makes you a bad fan.
