- I like Chaparrals. I like George Follmer. I like Augie Pabst. From what I've read of my club's history, there was a really big fight for years about sanctioning professional racing. I still don't know how I feel about it..on one hand, John Bishop got out and founded IMSA. On the other, the USRRC eventually became the Can-Am, and the Trans-Am lasted for a very long time (and is trying to make a comeback!).
Maybe I'll just leave the discussion for the historians, and watch the damn cars instead. And I hate to admit it..but I really like that 'onboard' with Jim in the Stingray just following Hap at half-throttle up the road. Cameras were big & heavy back then, weren't they?

Not a 2C. The 2C had an aluminum monocoque tub and was all white.
When I was in 7th grade I attended the 1964 race with my Dad. It was the first time my Dad attended a road race. He enjoyed it very much. We attended this race as well. In 1964 Roger Penske was Hall's co-driver. After the race in 1964, we were able to get into the winner's circle and listen to the reporters ask Jim Hall questions. In 1965 we couldn't get anywhere near Hall after the race. The series became so popular.
Great post. I never knew there was a chicane at the Glen before the "bus stop" that was put in in the early '90's

David Pozzi, I try. I actually work in media (TV, in my case), and as someone interested in the history of our sport, I can actually see how the changes in technology made a difference in recording that history. When I was in my 20s, I actually *met* guys who worked on WWS during the 1960s. Big-assed cans of film just for the cameras at the track. Onboards were usually 16mm hand-helds that still were pretty heavy (compared to a GoPro :D ), and the guys who shot that stuff just climbed into a car during practice and held on to the car and the camera as best they could. Videotape machines were like computers back then, they existed..but pretty much filled a room. I'm actually astonished that *any* moving pictures of races before the 1980s ever existed at all.
David Pozzi Here's a perfect example of what I'm talking about..someone on YT uploaded the 1973 German GP (Nurburgring) 'master copy" videotape here. I'm so proud that I posted up my own stuff like that from the 1980 Runoffs..but wasn't *anything* like this one. I really think this one's a 'mirror', instead of the original..but that's cool since it means someone saved it. I own the Buck Fulp Lola T70 in the video. It's very nice to see it racing back in the day. Very often, the quality of these old broadcasts are pretty poor. Yours look great!
David Pozzi, nice stills of the car over at your webplace! I love it when stuff like this happens. Man, '65 would have been a crazy early T70, wouldn't it?
oldSCCAguy yah Yes, it seems Mecom, Fulp and Pacesetters got Lolas first. This was the first race for Buck Fulp in his new lola and it ran very well for a first outing. His number 52 here is double his usual number of 26, I guess 26 was already taken.
Justin Davis, thanks! I've got a few others, but most of them are duplicates of what's already on UA-cam. I'm kind of new at this, though..the younger folks have been telling me that duplicates are actually *good* since sometimes channels die and there's different levels of video quality out there. I'll probably post up what I've got after I finish cleaning up the channel a bit (I've got some stuff in "parts" that I can now put up in one piece).
I saw this series at Bridgehampton. One of my first races my father took me to.

Hi, do you have any more footage of SCCA races at Watkins Glen from the 60s, 70s and early 80s? My dad, Syl Barlow, raced a blue Sprite with Snoopy pained on the tail. Just curious if you had any uploaded.
The good ol' days ... No sponsor names mentioned ad nauseam, open face helmets, no head and neck devices, hardly (if any) noise restrictions ...
