Alexa improves so much, so frequently. She responds to VERY casual language, and takes into the context your previous question, to the point where sometimes it's almost like we have a small conversation lol. Google Assistant uses the Google Search engine which is a big benefit. Sometimes the top result isn't what you're asking for though... Still, it's nice. That said, Alexa's knowledge base is getting really good. She knows WAY more than when I got it a couple years ago. I asked her a really obscure question the other day and she knew. The dot also has a decent speaker, for a small mono source. I just got a free Nest from Spotify so I guess I'll have two ladies in my life now :)

I got both Echo Dot and Google Home Mini (back when that was the name) about the same time. At first, I preferred Google because of the access the search functionality. Over time, I have gone all in on Alexa because of the insane diversity of the Echo line.
I have a friend that has the Amazon version. I myself prefer the Google. I currently have 2 Google hubs, a Google home, a Google mini, 18 smart bulbs and 4 smart plugs. I use the Google assistant every day. From using the alarm to wake me up, adding to my grocery list, asking the time, using the speakers as an intercom... And the list goes on. I love it. I even bought my dad a Google hub and smart bulbs for fathers day because he expressed an interest. Lol
Yeah the google is great. The voice sounds so much better. The only thing i prefer alexa over google is the way they tell you reminders. Alexa reads it outloud and google sends a notification to your phone. She will read it only if you ask her to..alexa reads it when it is the time. Thats all...overall i so prefer the Google Nest mini!! :)
As I currently still living under my parent's room, the household uses Alexa so we have Echo dots and Alexa's and Echo Shows around the house but I have a Nest Hub in my room as I just prefer the Google ecosystem with the integration with my phone, Google Maps and UA-cam etc. Both Assistants are amazing and would definitely recommend both to anyone want a smart speaker or to step into an eco-system but personally I would rather use Google products. It just depends on what you're looking for.
I also heavily use google on my android phone, but my parents have amazon prime so honestly I prefer alexa as google assistant is on my phone, alexa is a new experience, and I feel I like amazon alexa better because my parents use amazon prime so besides being in multiple ecosystems it is still good.
Hello just viewed your video. My son bought me Amazon Alexa Dot. In May this year. For my birthday. At first I was puzzled 🤨 But since I got the app on my phone, well now it’s a game changer😀. I love the sound quality! I love it! Best thing ever.... The only negative would be she doesn’t alway have a precise answer to a question. Which can be frustrating. She is my new bestie🙏🏻

I have them both and there's not even a comparison: Google Nest is absolutely the best one, by miles. Everybody that comes to my house and test both asks if Echo Dot is broken or something.
I had one major breakdown of cloudbased data in my lifetime. One! ... It was so bad I could never fully trust clouds anymore. All the important things, like pictures of my kids, important document scans or notes like bank account data or so, for that I totally went back to a manual controlled systems of saving. For that I have three harddrives, so triple security at my house and I even have nightly syncs to a harddrive at my parents home 200 miles away - in case of natural desaster or so. Of course I even went back to analog a bit - Once per year I print out pictures of my kids like in the old days - Since ten years I always do that on XMAS. It's a good routine every year. I am sure one day, me or my kids will be happy, that I did the effort. Any upcoming cloud crash will really be bad for many many people, since they are not aware that alot of things might happen to big companies.
@@MysterX79 I think you are doing the right thing. I had some documents missing or messed up by using OneDrive. Never trusted again too. Besides, the constant data transfer in cloud demands a lot of energy in the servers, so cloud is a big source of carbon emissions. Tinfoil hat on: Sometimes I wonder that the demand for clouds were fabricated in order to mine data, because the alternative, to make local backups never changed and there is no caveats at all.
I have the Google mini. Google is the way to go for me. It integrates well with home services, especially Nest (like my thermostat, smoke detectors, and doorbell). With the use of other google apps, it's range becomes broader. With Duo, you can make phone calls over wi-fi to cell phones which have Duo on them. With Keep, you can take voice notes and they will show up as a note n Keep on your cell phone. With the Calendar app, you can make appointments and reminders and they are automatically added to your calendar. Lenovo makes an alarm clock with the Google assistant on it, so it is like an alarm clock and a mini combined. I can set my alarm with my voice, use it like I would a mini, and even see who is at the door when my doorbell rings. Google has so many links to devices made by others that the list of things you can do with it grows and grows everyday. I think it is an outstanding system!
I have an echo dot, cousin bought me one for a housewarming gift, but hopefully I'll be able to snag a Google speaker and pair them up for better sound in my kitchen 👌

I have been a user and fan of the Echos and Alexa assistant and wanted to try out the Google Assistant and ecosystem. I have learned so much on the channel that i placed an order for the Nest Mini on Walmart.

I use Nest mini because I have Google Chromecast. It is really cool to say " hey Google, play The Simpsons with Disney + in the living room" or same thing with music.
I have both but got into the Amazon Alexa sphere because my house came with ecobee thermostats (with Alexa in the thermostat itself) and my Ring Alarm/Doorbell kit works with and came with Alexas as well. Personally, Alexa feels more robotic at times, but the Echo Dot has a more rich bass-heavy sound. So it really depends on what your ecosystem is for most usefulness.
The sound test was interesting, but when you were showing the difference in the information the speakers would find, the google speaker was sooo much clearer
I like Amazon Echo more you can customize routines much better and easier. I recently got a nest mini for free. I do have music services for both, but I will most likely cancel the Amazon one because of how the Google nest mini is already integrated with the UA-cam premium that I already use.

B been trying literally hours upon hours probably two months now hours upon hours to reconnect my Google Nest mini and I still can't and Google has not helped me whatsoever
You neglected to mention speaker pairing. I don't know about the Amazon unit, but I've got two of my Nest Minis paired, and this gives me a 1000% better listening experience -- and in true stereo.
The speakers don't sound about the same, they're incredibly different, at least here in your example. The Echo speaker sounds remarkably better than the Nest one for music.
i have both echo dot v3 and mini v1, mini v1 sound thin, never use the mini it sounds so bad vs echo dot v3, plus echo dot v3 has stereo aux output so you can connect it to a hifi amp
You have so much information and it helped seal the deal for myself to get a google mini. I do want the nest but the price difference is what caught me. Thank you for having detailed info for both. It helps a ton.

IMHO Google has a smarter voice assistant and a better ecosystem of services more integrated . I'm happy to hear how well this new version of nest mini nest sounds.
Google Home is really lacking when it comes to advanced routines. Alexa can be done based on motion detected, location, include delays between actions, etc. google is better as a digital buddy, but Alexa is better currently if you are a big smart home user.

I have both of these items and they're both in storage. Because I'm building a brand new house and we've been living in an RV for almost 3 years. Your video was very helpful on which one I think I want to drag out of storage. For the new house and its security system.
I have used the Amazon echo dot and I think it's one of the best home devices which is very affordable as well. Mediatek and Amazon make for a good team
I use both. At home mostly Alexa because it's a shorter phrase. In the car I use Google to turn on the smart home when I get close or will be carrying in groceries. I'd use Alexa all the time if I could get the phone to respond hands free without opening the app and pressing the button. Google responds better when I say thermostat commands and alexa constantly confused bedroom and bathroom lights - but I mumble. To be honest if either would let me change the wake word to "Jarvis" - I would use that one all the time so I can pretend to be Tony Stark.
I have an Alexa, a google home, and google mini. Personally, I use my Google Home the most, primarily because it is in my kitchen so; recipes, questions about food and recipes (also use Google on my PC for printing recipes. Also, use Google home in the kitchen for music. I get more answers from Google because of its larger source of information. Funny, a couple of years ago, I could not get scores from Wimbledon as neither one seems to have ever heard of "Wimbledon". Likely fixed by now.
You can adjust the treble and bass on the google mini through the app......I don’t remember how it’s been a while but it sounds soooooo much better when you adjust it and pretty punchy for such a tiny thing
I have one Echo Show 8 in my office, and I have Google Home (mostly screens) in every room. The Alexa app offers some routines features that aren't available on GH. But I say "Hey Google" 99% of the time. I have several other echo speakers but they aren't plugged in.
Uhg.. HATE the Show 8 due to Amazon choosing to spam users with "Try" advertisements that you can't turn off. It is the reason I am looking at switching all the Echo equipment we have to google stuff.
I've fot 5 alexas at home. Echo show8 in the kitchen, echo 3rd gen in living room, dot 3rd gen with clock in bedroom, and my 2 children have 1 dot per person. I really like this ecosystem and sound quality.
I feel that when Im really bored, alexa also provides more entertainment with better games, more stories, and better integrated easter eggs and other features

I currently have a Google Nest Hub in my kitchen and then a Google Nest Mini in my bedroom and I can say that I use them on a daily basis! They are both extremely helpful and are both very compatible with both IOS and Android! I would highly recommend Googles products!
I've been using a Google home mini for a few years but recently got an echo dot, I mainly got it to work on conjunction with my ring doorbell because I needed another smart speaker downstairs and I knew the home mini wouldn't work with ring so I just got the echo... I prefer the home mini I found it easier to work with and it works with all my smart home devices except the ring but Alexa doesn't work with my smart tv 🤷🏽♀️ plus I like the look of the Google better I guess lol
i have both .. best for me comes down to 2 things. "hey google" is more cumbersome than "alexa", and the amazon stuff has "drop in" which is a big deal in a big house / being able to intercom to my home when i'm away

also can you sink amazon & google products together like the speakers esp? amazon is more for my parents but when they are here id like to set up some amazon stuff like ecp dot bc they use mostly amazon & esp incase of an emergency i just want to see or if they need to join team google :'] like when i leave town for work and they stay at my place to take care of my zoo! lol I pause, breed parrots & reptiles plus run a bird store with my boss & I'm his right hand mind so when i have to go to events and leave town even the state my dad loves to help!
Oh! I have had both of these on my bed for quite a while. No problem. UNTIL, I put them too close together. Bluetooth connectivity was blown to the Echo Dot primarily, but became flakey on the Mini as well.
I find the sound output is much better on the Echo. I had both products in my house for awhile. I liked the Google search results better, but I listen to news and music more than search and the Mini would not connect to a Bluetooth speaker to play news, only music. I also could not assign different names to the various Google devices. Each Echo device has a different name. This may seem trivial, but it gets confusing when all the devices in the house answer at the same time. I took the Google Nest Hub and Mini back and bought a big Echo for the sound quality. I use my smartphone for searching.
I am deep into Google ecosystem but it is quite frustrated for me because the slow development in the Routines. Looking at the Routines for both systems, Alexa Routines is far more advanced with the wyze sense kits, location as trigger and delayed for each skill. I really hope that Google will improve in this section. Another feature that I am waiting for so long is the scheduled actions, like turn off lights after 30 minutes.
Would there be any problem with running both systems in a house? I started with Google about two years ago but i have recently purchased an echo dot I installed in my office side by side with google mini and I like things that both can do that the other cant.
Been trying to choice one for my mum. My mum need reminders for meds and appointments, playing music and maybe to ask questions. Because I want to get the right one I'm struggling which to choose.
I started out with the Echo Dot, in several rooms in my house. I switched to Google Nest Minis and a Lenovo Smart Display. The biggest difference to me is the voice sound quality. Alexa always sounds as if it’s muffled; whereas the Google voice is crystal clear. I have to ask Alexa to repeat the answer and it still sounds muffled. The other thing about Alexa is that it would drop out of a sleep skill, even though it’s one that is supposed to play until I tell it to stop and going off would wake me up. In all fairness this does happen with the Nest Mini, but very infrequently. The sound quality for me is the reason I prefer Google Nest products over the Amazon Alexa.
Hm interesting. To me, the Echo has clearly better dynamic range, and more prominent bass. The Nest speaker is tinny and has no low end. From a technical perspective, the Dot speaker is much higher quality. Sometimes low end can make voices sound muffled, and removing it makes audio clear. But for music, that high end tinny sound is terrible. Anyway, in the end, both are shitty, small, (nearly) mono speakers that I never play music on lol so maybe that low end cut isn't so bad afterall.
Our family uses both but I prefer Google because of 3 things 1. It has a louder better sounding speaker and gives a better veration between sound levels (you can really pinpoint the sound level your looking for for the task your asking it to do at that time or part of the room your in for instance like if you want relaxing zen sounds you can get all the sound at a level that is perfect for you) 2. The brain power of the a.i. is much smarter like a 95% accuracy level to like a 65% with the alexa... so if your in the thick of it or in a heated conversation you get clear answers more readily and quickly to the situation your in where your wording with the alexa has to be tweaked until it fits its a.i.'s parameters... and 3. It can connect to my sirusxm without any problems or having to set Bluetooth it's really just as simple as asking it to cast and done... where you just don't get that with Alexa... I think if you like the simplicity of casting your stuff then you'll Iike the Google better and it's smarter and has a better range of sound all acrossed the ranges of sound levels but they aren't perfect I would like to see both of them incorporate a holographic clock to easily see the time from any part of a room and both be easy to connect to older speakers to turn them into a smart speaker system (preferably wirelessly..) and then you would have the ultimate smart speaker system for there low cost..
I want to buy a device for setting reminder. Like it should reminder me automatically ... Mike it's time drink water, Sally it's time to brush and when I ask what should I cook for dinner it should remind me the read loud the list I provided it.. What device do you recommend ?

I've had the first generation Google Mini and the Amazon Echo Dot with Clock in my bedroom for some months now. I use the Echo Dot more now. He doesn't mention that the 3rd generation Echo Dot has stereo sound, a big plus. I could go on and on, but... My advice is to people who have neither platform is, choose a platform and stick with it. Oh! Google assistants (I have the original Google Home too) can be set to a percentage point volume wise. Awesome! The big jumps on the Echo Dot will chap your hide. This is somewhat offset by fractional jumps when using the physical buttons. But isn't voice control the whole point?
But sometimes, you just need to press the volume button because if you keep saying alexa turn the volume down again and again it starts talking about a youtuber called volume?
They're pretty neck and neck, though if response time is the deciding factor we think Amazon's assistant has a faster response time right now but the Nest Mini has slightly better sound.

I have a lenovo smart clock and nest mini having had echo dots before. Initially I liked it a lot more, but it's like the longer I've got it the more it's degraded. Commands it did just fine at the start now aren't accepted, it's strange
I think they’re both very good and I use both but I have one big issue with Google which is the speakers and music groups often keep disappearing which causes me a lot of frustration. This has been happening since November 2019 with poor excuses from Google and the issue still exists. I have tried everything but all the Google devices constantly appear and disappear right before my eyes. I have spoken to many people experiencing the same issue. Any ideas?
Amazon Alexa is the best for home automation, it has the most skills. Also, Google can't add a device to more than 1 room or group; example: kitchen and family room are adjacent to each other and I want the lights in both room to turn off if I say all, as well as independently turning off either room. Alexa is inexpensive so I bought 8 to equip every room with Amazon Alexa for voice control so that I can just ask 'turn off the lights' and the echo in that room knows to turn off those lights and not other lights in the house. Google app's fonts are really really really tiny for my old eyes. All 8 of my Amazon Echo devices have a clock... very convenient to tell the time or see a timer's countdown. or better sound, I have a few of my Amazon Echo dot 3 with clock output the sound via its 3.5mm headphone jack to my Denon HEOS speakers.
I have a nest mini but the only thing I haven't been able to do is "save" the skills like in Alexa. Is there a way to save them to make it easier to use them in routines?
So if anyone can still answer how do i connect to a samsung tv, tcl with chromecast built in to an echo dot. So far i like it but need to know if i should stick with echos or purchase google homes to use for the tv and keep echo directly for kitchen. Also I use samsung phones. I love apple but prefer Android.
I don't think the sound quality of the two are 'close' exactly. The Echo Dot is much, much more powerful than the Mini and has muuch more bass. The Mini is much shriller and far less of a full sound. But I find the Dot's focus on low end makes it harder to understand as most of what I use the dots for is dialog, not music. But like your phone speakers, you can listen to music on these but that should be only if you don't have any other option. Get at least the Home, Echo, or Sonos One if you want to even causally listen to music.

I do not understand the point of either of these. What is different that asking my phone? It can turn things on and off, give me answers, connect to bluetooth Bose speakers which sound way better than either one of these. Am I missing the point of these?
They are $30, not $1000. And lots of phones don't allow you to use assistants with the screen off (mic always on feature), because it drains battery too much. That makes it way more efficient right there. Even if you can use your assistant with the screen off, the assistant is always there, always on, never dies, never gets lost etc. There's a ton of reasons to get one! I have Alexa on my phone, but use my dot 99% of the time. One of my favourite items ever, and so inexpensive. I got a Nest for free from signing up for Spotify Premium too, the promotion is still on too, in Canada at least if you wanted to try it for cheap. Also, you can connect Alexa to speakers, wired or bluetooth. I never listen to music via phone or Alexa speakers... That's insanity :p
I like Alexa Echo for listening to music but like Google Nest Mini for complex questions (such as What is the current heat index?). Alexa cannot relay the correct answer.
Great review. I find Amazon's Alexa to be much more personable as an assistant. I'd gotten into the habit of saying "thank you" after being given a response and Alexa would acknowledge it with about 6 different responses like "Happy to help." "You're oh so very welcome!" Very cute. Alexa also anticipates addition info needs (e.g. you ask about the weather for today, and if it's a Friday she may ask if you'd like to hear about the weekend weather). I also like Alexa's voice over Google's female voice. However... Google is more powerful and more detailed for serious queries. In essence, it's nice to have both in your home for different purposes.
Thanks for the review.. I'm All in on the Amazon Alexa app and 8 Echo products. However i was impressed how Google assistant gave more complete responses to queries... Will try a Google assistant and see how it works out. What i really like about the Echo is it can easily be hardwired to all kinds of speakers.. I have a JBL subwoofer and two Echo studios in my LR and nice older radio hardwired in my bathroom to a DOT. YOu have to hardwire instead of bluetooth if you want them to play as a group. It was also easy to group all the speakers throughout my house, including my TV soundbar to play the same music.

I have the Google mini. Google is the way to go for me. It integrates well with home services, especially Nest (like my thermostat, smoke detectors, and doorbell). With the use of other google apps, it's range becomes broader. With Duo, you can make phone calls over wi-fi to cell phones which have Duo on them. With Keep, you can take voice notes and they will show up as a note n Keep on your cell phone. With the Calendar app, you can make appointments and reminders and they are automatically added to your calendar. Lenovo makes an alarm clock with the Google assistant on it, so it is like an alarm clock and a mini combined. I can set my alarm with my voice, use it like I would a mini, and even see who is at the door when my doorbell rings. Google has so many links to devices made by others that the list of things you can do with it grows and grows everyday. I think it is an outstanding system!

Wow! I'm glad Google pushed this video recommendation on my feed. There's so much to learn here. I have been a user and fan of the Echos and Alexa assistant and wanted to try out the Google Assistant and ecosystem. I have learned so much on the channel that i placed an order for the Nest Mini on Walmart.

I use Nest mini because I have Google Chromecast. It is really cool to say " hey Google, play The Simpsons with Disney + in the living room" or same thing with music.
I have both but got into the Amazon Alexa sphere because my house came with ecobee thermostats (with Alexa in the thermostat itself) and my Ring Alarm/Doorbell kit works with and came with Alexas as well. Personally, Alexa feels more robotic at times, but the Echo Dot has a more rich bass-heavy sound. So it really depends on what your ecosystem is for most usefulness.
The sound test was interesting, but when you were showing the difference in the information the speakers would find, the google speaker was sooo much clearer
I like Amazon Echo more you can customize routines much better and easier. I recently got a nest mini for free. I do have music services for both, but I will most likely cancel the Amazon one because of how the Google nest mini is already integrated with the UA-cam premium that I already use.

You neglected to mention speaker pairing. I don't know about the Amazon unit, but I've got two of my Nest Minis paired, and this gives me a 1000% better listening experience -- and in true stereo.
How the heck did you get them to work in stereo? I've paired them but they won't work together and keep asking me to log into the home app.

The speakers don't sound about the same, they're incredibly different, at least here in your example. The Echo speaker sounds remarkably better than the Nest one for music.

i have both echo dot v3 and mini v1, mini v1 sound thin, never use the mini it sounds so bad vs echo dot v3, plus echo dot v3 has stereo aux output so you can connect it to a hifi amp
Until recently we had both and made the decision to get rid of the Echo speakers. Main reason, the superior search of the Google Assistant.

Already having a Google device that spies on me and being a UA-cam Music subscriber makes this an easy choice to skip out on any Amazon device.

My sister had an Alexa but I use Google Home Mini daily it’s awesome I’m even getting my parents one for Christmas!
I use a google nest hub, have got on really well with it, and love the integration with other google products like photos.
Using them with google photos is a great conversation piece for friends when they come over. I've created an album for my tv and my hubs.
IMHO Google has a smarter voice assistant and a better ecosystem of services more integrated

Google Home is really lacking when it comes to advanced routines. Alexa can be done based on motion detected, location, include delays between actions, etc. google is better as a digital buddy, but Alexa is better currently if you are a big smart home user.
@@jhtrico1850 Google Assistant is an intelligent assistant, home automation is only one of its many functions, but not the main one on which the ecosystem is based. in comparison Alexa seems to me just a voice button.
I have both of these items and they're both in storage. Because I'm building a brand new house and we've been living in an RV for almost 3 years. Your video was very helpful on which one I think I want to drag out of storage. For the new house and its security system.
I have used the Amazon echo dot and I think it's one of the best home devices which is very affordable as well. Mediatek and Amazon make for a good team
I use both. At home mostly Alexa because it's a shorter phrase. In the car I use Google to turn on the smart home when I get close or will be carrying in groceries. I'd use Alexa all the time if I could get the phone to respond hands free without opening the app and pressing the button. Google responds better when I say thermostat commands and alexa constantly confused bedroom and bathroom lights - but I mumble. To be honest if either would let me change the wake word to "Jarvis" - I would use that one all the time so I can pretend to be Tony Stark.

I have an Alexa, a google home, and google mini. Personally, I use my Google Home the most, primarily because it is in my kitchen so; recipes, questions about food and recipes (also use Google on my PC for printing recipes. Also, use Google home in the kitchen for music. I get more answers from Google because of its larger source of information. Funny, a couple of years ago, I could not get scores from Wimbledon as neither one seems to have ever heard of "Wimbledon". Likely fixed by now.
You can adjust the treble and bass on the google mini through the app......I don’t remember how it’s been a while but it sounds soooooo much better when you adjust it and pretty punchy for such a tiny thing

I have one Echo Show 8 in my office, and I have Google Home (mostly screens) in every room. The Alexa app offers some routines features that aren't available on GH. But I say "Hey Google" 99% of the time. I have several other echo speakers but they aren't plugged in.
Uhg.. HATE the Show 8 due to Amazon choosing to spam users with "Try" advertisements that you can't turn off. It is the reason I am looking at switching all the Echo equipment we have to google stuff.
I've fot 5 alexas at home. Echo show8 in the kitchen, echo 3rd gen in living room, dot 3rd gen with clock in bedroom, and my 2 children have 1 dot per person. I really like this ecosystem and sound quality.

I Have both but greatly prefer the echo dot because it actually has a whisper mode.

I have a 2nd gen nest mini and it stopped working after 3 months and it’s a hassle to get it fixed or replaced by google
I currently have a Google Nest Hub in my kitchen and then a Google Nest Mini in my bedroom and I can say that I use them on a daily basis! They are both extremely helpful and are both very compatible with both IOS and Android! I would highly recommend Googles products!
I've been using a Google home mini for a few years but recently got an echo dot, I mainly got it to work on conjunction with my ring doorbell because I needed another smart speaker downstairs and I knew the home mini wouldn't work with ring so I just got the echo... I prefer the home mini I found it easier to work with and it works with all my smart home devices except the ring but Alexa doesn't work with my smart tv 🤷🏽♀️ plus I like the look of the Google better I guess lol
google doc doesn't recognize any of my custom playlist on Spotify. Amazon does recognises all my playlists.
i have both .. best for me comes down to 2 things. "hey google" is more cumbersome than "alexa", and the amazon stuff has "drop in" which is a big deal in a big house / being able to intercom to my home when i'm away

also can you sink amazon & google products together like the speakers esp? amazon is more for my parents but when they are here id like to set up some amazon stuff like ecp dot bc they use mostly amazon & esp incase of an emergency i just want to see or if they need to join team google :'] like when i leave town for work and they stay at my place to take care of my zoo! lol I pause, breed parrots & reptiles plus run a bird store with my boss & I'm his right hand mind so when i have to go to events and leave town even the state my dad loves to help!
Oh! I have had both of these on my bed for quite a while. No problem. UNTIL, I put them too close together. Bluetooth connectivity was blown to the Echo Dot primarily, but became flakey on the Mini as well.
I find the sound output is much better on the Echo. I had both products in my house for awhile. I liked the Google search results better, but I listen to news and music more than search and the Mini would not connect to a Bluetooth speaker to play news, only music. I also could not assign different names to the various Google devices. Each Echo device has a different name. This may seem trivial, but it gets confusing when all the devices in the house answer at the same time. I took the Google Nest Hub and Mini back and bought a big Echo for the sound quality. I use my smartphone for searching.

I am deep into Google ecosystem but it is quite frustrated for me because the slow development in the Routines. Looking at the Routines for both systems, Alexa Routines is far more advanced with the wyze sense kits, location as trigger and delayed for each skill. I really hope that Google will improve in this section.
Another feature that I am waiting for so long is the scheduled actions, like turn off lights after 30 minutes.
It's actually incredible how fast Alexa is improving. Over the past two years alone, she's become so much smarter, so many features get implemented.

I don't know about the amazon echo ecosystem, but I'm a huge fan of the scheduled routines available with the Google ecosystem.

I started out with the Echo Dot, in several rooms in my house. I switched to Google Nest Minis and a Lenovo Smart Display. The biggest difference to me is the voice sound quality. Alexa always sounds as if it’s muffled; whereas the Google voice is crystal clear. I have to ask Alexa to repeat the answer and it still sounds muffled. The other thing about Alexa is that it would drop out of a sleep skill, even though it’s one that is supposed to play until I tell it to stop and going off would wake me up. In all fairness this does happen with the Nest Mini, but very infrequently. The sound quality for me is the reason I prefer Google Nest products over the Amazon Alexa.
Hm interesting. To me, the Echo has clearly better dynamic range, and more prominent bass. The Nest speaker is tinny and has no low end. From a technical perspective, the Dot speaker is much higher quality. Sometimes low end can make voices sound muffled, and removing it makes audio clear. But for music, that high end tinny sound is terrible. Anyway, in the end, both are shitty, small, (nearly) mono speakers that I never play music on lol so maybe that low end cut isn't so bad afterall.
Our family uses both but I prefer Google because of 3 things 1. It has a louder better sounding speaker and gives a better veration between sound levels (you can really pinpoint the sound level your looking for for the task your asking it to do at that time or part of the room your in for instance like if you want relaxing zen sounds you can get all the sound at a level that is perfect for you) 2. The brain power of the a.i. is much smarter like a 95% accuracy level to like a 65% with the alexa... so if your in the thick of it or in a heated conversation you get clear answers more readily and quickly to the situation your in where your wording with the alexa has to be tweaked until it fits its a.i.'s parameters... and 3. It can connect to my sirusxm without any problems or having to set Bluetooth it's really just as simple as asking it to cast and done... where you just don't get that with Alexa... I think if you like the simplicity of casting your stuff then you'll Iike the Google better and it's smarter and has a better range of sound all acrossed the ranges of sound levels but they aren't perfect I would like to see both of them incorporate a holographic clock to easily see the time from any part of a room and both be easy to connect to older speakers to turn them into a smart speaker system (preferably wirelessly..) and then you would have the ultimate smart speaker system for there low cost..
I want to buy a device for setting reminder. Like it should reminder me automatically ... Mike it's time drink water, Sally it's time to brush and when I ask what should I cook for dinner it should remind me the read loud the list I provided it.. What device do you recommend ?
I know the Google Home has a routine called Workday (originally Family Bell) which lets you schedule a list of activities and announcements for different times throughout the day

I've had the first generation Google Mini and the Amazon Echo Dot with Clock in my bedroom for some months now. I use the Echo Dot more now. He doesn't mention that the 3rd generation Echo Dot has stereo sound, a big plus. I could go on and on, but... My advice is to people who have neither platform is, choose a platform and stick with it. Oh! Google assistants (I have the original Google Home too) can be set to a percentage point volume wise. Awesome! The big jumps on the Echo Dot will chap your hide. This is somewhat offset by fractional jumps when using the physical buttons. But isn't voice control the whole point?
But sometimes, you just need to press the volume button because if you keep saying alexa turn the volume down again and again it starts talking about a youtuber called volume?
Sound quality hands down goes to Alexa, smarts hands down goes to Google, so sick of reviewers not picking a side......
My fiancé and I have both. I prefer google while she prefers Alexa. It really just comes down to preference and what ecosystem you fill is better.

They're pretty neck and neck, though if response time is the deciding factor we think Amazon's assistant has a faster response time right now but the Nest Mini has slightly better sound.

I have a lenovo smart clock and nest mini having had echo dots before. Initially I liked it a lot more, but it's like the longer I've got it the more it's degraded. Commands it did just fine at the start now aren't accepted, it's strange

I think they’re both very good and I use both but I have one big issue with Google which is the speakers and music groups often keep disappearing which causes me a lot of frustration. This has been happening since November 2019 with poor excuses from Google and the issue still exists. I have tried everything but all the Google devices constantly appear and disappear right before my eyes. I have spoken to many people experiencing the same issue. Any ideas?
I tired and tried to get them to fix the issue, they didn’t, so I said screw it, and moved to amazon, and oh boy I am glad I did

Amazon Alexa is the best for home automation, it has the most skills.
Also, Google can't add a device to more than 1 room or group; example: kitchen and family room are adjacent to each other and I want the lights in both room to turn
off if I say all, as well as independently turning off either room.
Alexa is inexpensive so I bought 8 to equip every room with Amazon Alexa for voice control so that I can just ask 'turn off the lights' and the echo in that room
knows to turn off those lights and not other lights in the house.
Google app's fonts are really really really tiny for my old eyes.
All 8 of my Amazon Echo devices have a clock... very convenient to tell the time or see a timer's countdown.
or better sound, I have a few of my Amazon Echo dot 3 with clock output the sound via its 3.5mm headphone jack to my Denon HEOS speakers.

So if anyone can still answer how do i connect to a samsung tv, tcl with chromecast built in to an echo dot. So far i like it but need to know if i should stick with echos or purchase google homes to use for the tv and keep echo directly for kitchen. Also I use samsung phones. I love apple but prefer Android.
I don't think the sound quality of the two are 'close' exactly. The Echo Dot is much, much more powerful than the Mini and has muuch more bass. The Mini is much shriller and far less of a full sound. But I find the Dot's focus on low end makes it harder to understand as most of what I use the dots for is dialog, not music. But like your phone speakers, you can listen to music on these but that should be only if you don't have any other option. Get at least the Home, Echo, or Sonos One if you want to even causally listen to music.
One of my family member has Google Nest Mini and the music is loud and clear and has a super great bass

I do not understand the point of either of these. What is different that asking my phone? It can turn things on and off, give me answers, connect to bluetooth Bose speakers which sound way better than either one of these. Am I missing the point of these?
They are $30, not $1000. And lots of phones don't allow you to use assistants with the screen off (mic always on feature), because it drains battery too much. That makes it way more efficient right there. Even if you can use your assistant with the screen off, the assistant is always there, always on, never dies, never gets lost etc. There's a ton of reasons to get one! I have Alexa on my phone, but use my dot 99% of the time. One of my favourite items ever, and so inexpensive. I got a Nest for free from signing up for Spotify Premium too, the promotion is still on too, in Canada at least if you wanted to try it for cheap. Also, you can connect Alexa to speakers, wired or bluetooth. I never listen to music via phone or Alexa speakers... That's insanity :p

I like Alexa Echo for listening to music but like Google Nest Mini for complex questions (such as What is the current heat index?). Alexa cannot relay the correct answer.
Great review. I find Amazon's Alexa to be much more personable as an assistant. I'd gotten into the habit of saying "thank you" after being given a response and Alexa would acknowledge it with about 6 different responses like "Happy to help." "You're oh so very welcome!" Very cute. Alexa also anticipates addition info needs (e.g. you ask about the weather for today, and if it's a Friday she may ask if you'd like to hear about the weekend weather). I also like Alexa's voice over Google's female voice. However... Google is more powerful and more detailed for serious queries. In essence, it's nice to have both in your home for different purposes.

What i really like about the Echo is it can easily be hardwired to all kinds of speakers.. I have a JBL subwoofer and two Echo studios in my LR and nice older radio hardwired in my bathroom to a DOT.
YOu have to hardwire instead of bluetooth if you want them to play as a group.
It was also easy to group all the speakers throughout my house, including my TV soundbar to play the same music.
