Tribute's Bonnie Laufer spoke with Jennifer about taking on such a heavy role, and how she is preparing herself to deal with the fame and attention she is starting to receive.
Winter's Bone synopsis:
17-year-old Ree Dolly (Jennifer Lawrence) sets out to track down her father, who put their house up for his bail bond and then disappeared. If she fails, Ree and her family will be turned out into the Ozark woods. Challenging her outlaw kin's code of silence and risking her life, Ree hacks through the lies, evasion and threats offered up by her relatives and begins to piece together the truth.
Based on the novel by Daniel Woodrell.

This is her most somber interview, i think it was before she became more confident and be her silly self. Great actress,great person, great movie.
Winter's Bone was like a prelude to The Hunger Games.. in this movie she loses a father, take care of a catatonic mother, take care of her siblings, actually heaving the weight of raising the family over her teenage shoulders. plus she knows of basic survival skills. Very much like Katniss Everdeen. she's downright perfect for it.
This movie is awesome. It seems so real, not like you're watching a movie.
she makes me really happy. Don't know why, I just love her so much that only to hear her voice I feel good.
She should've won the oscar for this,instead. If only that award considered who really deserved to get it.
The way she answered how she was able to relate to her character: "I just have an imagination." That is very telling to her talent.

I don't care if she doesn't interview well. She was brilliant in Winter's Bone. I was really impressed with her performance, and think she was well deserving of her nomination. I hope we see more of this young actress in the future. It's really refreshing to see a pretty face who can also really act.

She should have won the Actress in a Leading Role Oscar for her performance in "Winter's Bones+--her real coming out party. The movie was a commercial failure, but she played her role splendidly. She made a great hick. Her role in the winters bone really blew me away and I really hope her career takes off
This is a very realistic movie about people that I feel like I know. They got it so close to being what life can be like below the poverty line in the Ozarks and the way some people with limited choices decide on a criminal life to get by and some choose the way of longsuffering. The movie is PAINFULLY realistic at times and this girl nails it. Great Job Ms. Lawrence. Hope you get all the accolades you deserve for your performance.

Tbh, I don't care about how she looks, for me the SINGLE most important thing is that she can pull off the Katniss personality and attitude and that she can act with a real passion and by the sound/looks of it she will!
Thank God they didn't pick a teen with as much passion/acting skill as a cucumber!

Also- wow, can't believe how much of the interplay between her and the kids was improv. So much of that dialogue was important to the story- this actress clearly has good instincts. I'm so glad she'll be starring in such a high profile film as The Hunger Games.
I don't think I knew Jennifer Lawrence before I watched The Hunger Games, but it's amazing how likeable she is! When I saw the movie, I just fell in love with Jennifer (I'm a girl, so, not in that way)! I haven't been a fan for long, but I can tell you, Jennifer.... is..... EPIC!!!!!!!
Up until now, I've only seen pictures of her. After watching this, I think she is absolutely perfect. Her voice and the way she talks embody Katniss :)

I only saw Winter Bone's trailer, she looks convincing in it. In interview ,she's funny and articulate. To get recognition as oscar nominee at 19 yo, that is admirable. This girl is not just some pretty face

Cold Case's "A Dollar A Dream" was broadcast in March 2007. The Poker House was first shown at film festivals in the summer of 2008, and was probably filmed the previous winter (2007/2008).
Whenever people say JLaw's overrated simply by watching Hunger Games, I tell them to watch this movie. Definitely her best performance to date. Silver Linings Playbook doesn't even come close.

Even though she doesn't look like how I imagined Katniss to be, I think she has that maturity about her that screams Katniss.

Between movies, I see her doing a standup comic show, she's that good and funny.

"...just used imagination. " wow. She is the most natural and effortless (I.e. she's not playing a role, she's BEING the role. Amazing and refreshing to see how she takes all the adoration and accolades on stride. Also interesting to see this early interview whrre she is serious and focused on the craft without too much humor sprinkled on. Although she is hilarious when she gets going.

I just read the description, ive never seen winter's bone but ive seen the Hunger Games and from what that movie I can tell, she WILL be a huge hollywood star one day I just hope that she will keep her easy-going personalities though :)

You're absolutely right. The stars from Harry Potter can't get any other genres than the ones that are simillar to Harry Potter.
Luckily for us is Jennifer Lawrence doing other films as well (just look at House at the end of the street and silver linings playbook, which btw come out this year:D:D). Can't wait to see her in all her coming movies.

Actually a lot of the movies that Jennifer has starred in as the main protagonist are very similar in terms of personality. She takes on the burden of being a motherly figure to her younger siblings with a mother because her parents don't fill that role. Not only in The Hunger Games, but Winter's Bone and The Poker House. Now she's in talks to star in The Glass Castle which has another similar role. That said, it takes an amazing actress to portray those roles correctly, and she has it.

Is it me, or at 7:05, did Jennifer Lawrence almost say "And I have my Mom, that tells me constantly, that I'm not Kat... (niss Everdeen), not talented." I think she almost slipped up and mentioned herself as Katniss Everdeen.
Casting for the movie hadn't even started at that point.
+2shots Yes, it did :) The movie was made in 2011, so she had to at least audition for that role by that point.
+br8hix im hella late on this but yes she did seem to almost say Katniss. And The Hunger Games cast has said that auditioning and casting began in 2010, two years before THG was released, so yes she may have had the role by then.

At first, I was against her playing Katniss. But then I saw this movie and WOW. I swear, I haven't seen acting that good in forever. Plus, in the movie, her mom is depressed, her dad is gone and she has to care for her younger siblings by hunting. That just screams Katniss.
I like her. From what I've seen from the Winter's Bone trailer she will do an incredible job as Katniss.

She accomplished more than she knows with this role, and galvanized her career by way of it as well. Perhaps it will all sink in when she gets older, if you guys don't fuck with her head too much. I really hate that, by the way. I'd like to see her around when I get really old. She comforts me, you know. I'd hate to see what might happen to you if you persist in interfering with that. You feel me, motherfuckers?
I still haven't seen Winter's Bone but I did see X-Men: First Class and thought she was great as Mystique. When I heard she and Woody Harrelson were going to be in The Hunger Games I started reading the books, and before I even saw the movie realized she was going to be an awesome Katniss

oh my gosh at 20 she got an academy award nomination for best actress..... I'm pretty sure she'll do fine.... Let's have an open mind and trust the author's judgement who gave us the wonderful series.... Now I'm wondering who will be peeta d:
it hasnt been started yet lol, they start in august, and they're considering making more than 3, in order to fit in all the content of the book, since the movie was such a hit and the reason it didnt get a 10/10, was because it wasnt long enough mainly, so i think they will make mockingjay part 1 and part2, like harry potter did
