As I was watching I couldn’t believe how accurate you could be while painting so fast, then I remembered I’d turned UA-cam speed up to 1.5 for a previous show, I didn’t even catch that you were talking faster 😄. Love the bear and the loose look of the whole painting!
What a wonderful little lesson! I am going to share this with my students! The drawing of the bear is exactly how I show my students how to draw. Break it down in simple shapes and connect them. It takes the mystery out of drawing. Thank you!
as a child, the song "Teddy Bear's Picnic" was a favourite - and believe me, that was a long time ago. This is a sweet picture that evokes wonderful memories for me! thank you, Harriet...
WOW.....this is a wonderful wildlife painting. I'm getting more confident with drawing and took my time to get the dimensions correct. Thank you I thoroughly enjoyed watching this tutorial. 👍👍
I think you are sneaking around are on the hill I live on! I’m on the edge of a forest in the mountains of western North Carolina. We feed bird’s everyday and one of the main ones is the Carolina Chickadee which looks exactly like the one you just did. We also have bears…one day last June I was looking out at bird feeders from my kitchen table when I saw something dark and yes it was a bear trying to get some treats! I videoed him for a minute then thought he is way to close to my window, so I knocked on the window and off he ran. He was not a full adult but too big to be under my window! I did the sketch of this guy over coffee today. You made it easy to follow the sketch. I’ll paint him later. ☺️ Thanks Harriet!
This bear is so cute. I love it so much I wanna purchase it 😃. You’re so amazing and talented at what you do. And you can really tell you love what you do. I could watch your videos all day!
PS: love the Mayan Blue/DS. Teaching us how to be a bit loose, more fluid and on the go painting is valuable - at least to me. Great birds as well!!! (perhaps our BC ravens!)...
I love watching you paint and the way you break down sketching to simple shapes. Do you think the direction your animals face is easier for you to draw because you are left handed? I’m right handed and wondering if it would be easier for me to draw them facing the other direction?
Your drawings are always wonderful. I learn sketching watching you. I did the Chickadee, a fair job. The trees are lovely! I would not have known where to start. Background or bear? Thanks!

I love the way you painted the birds in the sky. Please show us up close how you handled the brush. They’re wonderful. ❤

You can do it!

I'm glad you found the tips valuable!
That is one fat bear! Just like me when I emerge from a winter of inactivity and eating!
Haha!

That’s a very good point. I’m sure that’s true

Harriet, do you have a tutorial on painting a black bear? I cannot locate one, just wanted to ask. Thanks.
Use this tutorial and change the colours!
