I've not heard Ren's reasoning for calling these "retakes". I can say, it's not a "cover" because he adds his own lyrics. It's not a "remix" because, again, he adds to it lyrically. Perhaps he's created a new thing. Then I saw that Justin had a great reaction to Hi Ren, and later an interview with Elizabeth Zharoff of Charismatic Voice. And now he's doing an interview with Ren....kind of a synchronicity loop there. 😳

I'm an "old" musician who comes from a prog rock background--lots of style and rhythm changes in a single song. After listening to Ren's rap and storytelling songs, I'm starting to think of his flow switches as "progressive rap." Not sure if he would agree with that, but I'm "all in" on those switches. I agree with you 100% about how he and his man Samuel produce these videos. Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full Version) is one of my all-time favorite musical experiences.
