There will never be another Scratch. True original. True originator. Always stayed true to himself. We are lucky to have shared the same timespace with him.

As a young music enthusiast, college radio dj, and reggae musician, I couldn’t get enough of rare Blsck Ark recordings and new LSP albums with Dub Syndicate or Mad Professor. I revered his mystic word play and his psychedelic 70s masterpieces. That said, as a middle age man in 2023, the fact that his actual mental illnesses were always glossed over and attributed to his eccentric genius seems disingenuous and not helpful for those who deal with the problems of schizophrenia etc
In a way, our celebration was at his expense. The spectacle that was Lee.
I know he toured with Subatomic right up until he passed (from old age and COVID complications). Those guys seemed to have a great touring relationship with him. So, maybe he was managing his mental health. Still, I wish there was a more honest conversation about what the hell was really going on in his brain chemistry. Might have been helpful to other artists who struggle with mental health.

I think he deliberately cultivated the image of a madman later on, and kept a lot of details about his personal life and health hidden from the public (or made up contradicting stories.) I think if he did have a real mental break it was probably in the waning days of the Black Ark, just judging by the old video you see here.
But I don't really know, and who really knows. He is an enigma. Rhythm. In. Perpetuity. thanks £$P

Nice to see Clancy Eccles on video again...But opinions diverged thru the years about the track Small Axe. Both Lee and Bob had a hand in working that song... Eventually there was some beef between the two when Perry pocketed the proceeds from that song..And that track marked a reconciliation between the pair with Perry being particularly angry about what he saw as Bob's underhanded move in whisking away his riddim section team comprised of the Barrett brothers Aston (Bass) snd Carlton (Drums) from his band the Upsetters.

No, it actually happened when Perry sold the rights to that record and a few others to Trojan records but without him doing that Marley‘s music maybe wouldn’t have gotten ears in the UK

Scratch used the antics and mad statements to get attention and once he gets your attention he plants his real seed of truth.
    Nuff said.
