    For everyone that stayed until the end,, YES, the Hercules battery works in the Dewalt. It won't clip in but it will slide in and function. I use my Hercules 20v on my Dewalt 894 sometimes and I hold it in with a velcro strap so I dont have to modify the tool or the battery. You can trim the battery but with just a little force on even a new battery and tool, it will slide in and work. Do I recommend it? No. Does it work? Surprisingly

    I did notice that the light came on but the motor failed to work on the Hercules. Since a single pole light can technically still work when wired in reverse that means little but could be a clue. My guess would be while many different brands of batteries may have similar casings that can be manipulated to fit other brands, maybe the circuit board controlling the battery may be proprietary to the correct matching tech/setup of the tool? It would be interesting to see if the Hercules battery will power the dewalt drill and even more interesting to see if the Hercules charger would accept the tech of and charge the dewalt battery. Just my thoughts as I watched (maybe I’m the one wired differently, lol) Thanks for another fine video. Adds to the ‘more you know’ column. Stay safe all.

      It's actually the thermistor. On Dewalt and HF Bauer, its on the the same pin, but on Hercules is on a different pin. The tool thinks the batter is overheating, and shuts down the tool.

    There is a control circuit in the dewalt battery that is what is keeping it from working on each other. There is an extra wire on the Dewalt that is a temperature control to keep the thing from working if the battery gets too hot or cold. Someone said you can bypass it with a resistor. I don't remember which resistor I think it was 19 ohms you will have to research it.

    The Dewalt batteries DO work in the Bauer and Hercules lines from HF. You have to do a little filing on the case and add a resister. It’s like a 10 min job. Makes good sense for things that Dewalt does not offer.. like the Bauer 20v glue gun I modded to take Dewalt batteries.

    I've been referring to them as "Blue DeWalt"... I'm pretty sure they are made in the exact same factory SB&D contracts out for their various tool lines. They obviously have to change a couple of things... 10% I guess, but they did it with Porter Cable and the new Craftsman tools. In that particular instance, Craftsman only got a color change and a battery tab for the majority of their line-up. It's all red clone Porter Cable. (which is now the zombie brand for SB&D)
    Another clue is that if you look at Hercules upcoming line-up, there's a large work light that is waaaay to similar to the Porter Cable / Craftsman light for me to think it's anything other than the same factory.

Since its not a tool and has no motor I have to think it may have less shutoff protections. Also you don't work with a speaker, it just sits there, so its fine if it doesn't click in.

But that's no secret, especially since Mac Tools actually advertises that their tools will work with DeWalt Batteries. DeWalt and Mac Tools are both owned by Stanley/Black N Decker with Mac being their #1 Top tier brand and DeWalt being their #2 tier brand..

    I have a Hercules version with four terminals.Middle terminal missing. My DeWalt has five, with the middle terminal. I ground the same tabs off on the Hercules battery and I also ground the Hercules drill to accept the DeWalt battery. They both fit. They didn't power each other though. The Hercules kept a light on and didn't spin. The DeWalt intermittently kept its light on and didn't spin. Since b+ and b- are standard to batteries like this, and in the same positions here, and there are only two other terminals, I am guessing that if you swapped the inner two terminals that it may work. This is assuming that DeWalt didn't put in some sort of identifier that would not allow it to be powered by another hacked battery. Swap the two inner terminals and it just might work. The voltage comes from the outer two terminals so there shouldn't be as much risk of frying anything.

    "It's a no go" meanwhile that light lights up, thateans it getting power, there's something wrong with the tool.
    Perhaps there's a resistance circuit in the battery that's expecting a certain Ohm resistance and limiting amperage on the output so the light works but the motor doesn't. I'd really have to get my hands on these tools to find out but it should be as simple as finding out what the circuit wants and tricking it into believing it's getting that signal it wants to tell it that it's in the proper tool.

    • @jasona-EV
      @jasona-EV 6 місяців тому

      @@technicalitems731 So basically what I found out was (which seems to be the norm on "new gen" units) is that now there's a chip inside of the batteries (just like the ink jets were doing long ago to prevent this) so the old resistor trick doesn't work on these newer ""dark blue" units like I got so when I was back down at HF on their used/ junk table was a 2.5ah herc battery saying (not charging) for $10 so I bought it and took it home looked and saw the BMS / chip inside.. when I plugged it into my sawzall it worked right away! so I basically made an adapter, cut it up so the plastic connector, etc and circuit board act like a passthrough to my makita batteries.. just like any other battery adapter but now it has the little board inside. That's what I found out. I think all these battery manufactures are going to be doing this, esp with all the counterfit crap going on now, trying to lock down their devices with chips/ RFID , etc..
      Just look at project farm's latest vid on batteries... pretty sad.

    Hay Vince,. Its in the circuit box of the tool not to read the 1s and 0s needed to make the tool run. If the mossfeds do not cycle the the electrical particular in the correct sequence it will not run,. But the system can be tricked in to working. The Chinese communists did not made it hard to do. It short, yes it will run, it just needs a bit of tweeting. The electronic system is designed that way for each Chinese knock off brand like Hercules not to work. Because if one Chinese made knock off battery worked in other Chinese made brands you would not need to purchase batteries for each Chinese communist manufactured brand from the PRC. An excellent example of this is the TTI Milwaukee 12V round battery, the TTI Ridgid Emerson 12V round battery, the Bosch 12V round battery, and the Metabo Canadian 10.5V round Chinese battery. All the same battery, just very slit differences in the cut of the top of the round 1.5 or 2.0 amp design. My point is, it's marketng to the masses completely out of control, And we American's will buy anything. In the end I do think on a possitive note. That there are quality control differences from brand to brand, do to sourcing, such as Chinese knock offs are okay, Tawian and South Korean batteries much better, and Japanese batteries and excellent. I personally root for the Polish Radiam Corp commerical 18V battery and the Hungarian stuff deserves an shout out as will. Just a thought To the VCG.

    The better question is, why does DeWalt charge $80 for what costs them $12 or less to make. Lowe's has a smart move with their line of Kobalt and a $20 2mah battery price

    The idea is to see if Hercules batteries will power “deWalt tools”; otherwise just buy all Hercules brand; no one cares to use batteries that cost more than the tool. Also 20V dc is always 20V dc; get a schematic for the tool and than reconfigure the battery circuitry to accommodate that; make a video on altering a Hercules battery to fit a deWalt tool so I don’t have to ruin my batteries please and thank you.
