- Manta at SeaWorld Orlando is a Bolliger & Mabillard flying coaster. This ride features 4 inversions, including an ultra intense pretzel loop. And the course is scenic, passing over midways, trees, and waterfalls. Then the queue line also passes a giant aquarium. Does all this make it America's best flying coaster? Find out in this review!

The first pretzel loop has CRUSHING Gs. One of the most intense moments on any coaster. The rest is pure fun. Great smooth ride
It amazed me the difference between the back and the front.
My first ride was in the front and it was almost boring.
Then I rode in the back and it was one of the most intense experience's I ever had. I greyed out for the first time in my life on that pretzel loop.
All pretzel loops are intense.
yea
That splash it does before the final inversion is so cool
It's a great visual.
Great Review! Manta is also an excellent night ride! The way they light up the lagoon, fountains, and waterfalls really adds something special to the ride.
The one time I have been at this park at night was when Manta was down for refurbishment.
Something about B&M flyers is so cool to me and makes them one of my favorite roller coaster models from any manufacturer. The mixture of graceful elements and some of the most intense elements any coasters, not just B&M, has to offer is really unique.
I like the model too.
My issue with Manta is the operations. We were there on a very low traffic day, manya was a walk on, but we STILL were left hanging facing the ground on the brake run for over 6 minutes. It left nasty bruises on my chest from the restraints. I love this ride, its fantastic, but they need to fix the ops
Unfortunately it's not uncommon to get stuck there.
I love this ride. I do, however, think that Tatsu is a much better NA flying coaster. It has a much better sense of height and freedom, plus a much more intense pretzel loop. Again, I love this ride and it has world-class presentation.
I prefer Tatsu, but it is close.
I agree it's close. Tatsu feels shorter. Tatsu is obviously much taller.
Tatsu's length of track feels shorter I mean.
I hope we get more in America I feel Cedar Point or Kings Island needs one
Agree. They are very underrated experiences.
I wish more would be built.
Going for my bday :) can’t wait to ride this for the first time I was too young first time I went 10 years ago
Enjoy!
I went on Manta this summer and it was a very good B&M flyer and superior to the Superman’s and I was really impressed, but Tatsu has a better layout and I love that the pretzel loop is halfway through the ride instead of at the very beginning.
That does make for a nice finale on Tatsu.
The transition from airtime to positive G’s on the pretzel loop was surprised me the first time riding Manta. I got to ride in the back row and it was an incredible introduction to flying coasters
The pretzel loop is insane.
This has always been one of my favorite coasters, especially after both my mom & I were scared to ride it in 2011. At the end of our 2nd day, she decided to try it, and she loved it. So I gave it a try and loved it too. Great moments like that will always stick with me for every lap, no matter how many more times I ride it. No other flyer can touch Manta for me, even though I love Batwing's layout and the size of Tatsu. On my last visit, they were running 2 trains on both sides, so we roll right into the station. Later, they ran both trains from the same side, which is more common.
There is an aquarium area that is not a part of the queue, giving a different perspective of the same large tank, plus some other tanks. I've noticed that some of the music is from the movie, Deep Blue Sea. One of the more recognizable parts of the music is in this video at the 52-second mark: ua-cam.com/video/5i4wMZnaG7w/v-deo.html.
Interesting that is where the music may have been from. Didn't realize it wasn't original.
It’s been awhile since I last rode Manta, but I actually prefer it to Tatsu! Do you prefer it in the front or back?
Back
SeaWorld Orlando overall does a great job operating Manta. They consistently run two trains and regularly use the dual loading station.
I went this past year on a very chill day, it was a walk on, but we still were stuck on the brake run for over 6 minutes. The restraints left awful bruises on me as a result. The staff that day were not in a hurry to do ANYTHING. It was incredibly frustrating
@@sarah.weaver I haven't seen SeaWorld Orlando like that in years but, my visit to Busch Gardens Tampa in November was similar.
I don't usually see both load platforms in use, but they are good running two trains most days.
It would be really hard for me to take Manta over Tatsu. Manta is probably the more consistently action packed layout and had better presentation (though Tatsu is no slouch in presentation and it's almost awe inspiring to see it flying high up over the midway.) But I think when Tatsu is at its best it is the stronger ride.
But you are right about the queue for Manta. If we include everything about the ride as a package then I'll really admit that Manta is the best because of that queue. It blows my mind that the SeaWorld and Busch Gardens parks don't do more animal exhibits in their queue lines. Iron Gwazi should have a Nile Crocodile exhibit in the queue. It would be cool to have sharks in the queue for Mako, Stingsrays in the queue for Texas Stingray and so on and so forth. Plus move the wolves over to the queue for Verbolten or DarKoaster.
I don’t think animals would like being placed next to a loud af rollercoaster.
@@Sauci55on well, obviously it's not an issue for indoor aquarium exhibits (e.g. this ride.) Also, there are parks that do it (like Wild Adventures.) Even BGT used to have American Alligators right under your feet as you exited the station on Montu. And you don't need to put the animals right next to the loud and rattly parts of the ride. You just put them next to the queue further back. Heck, BGT puts animals ride next to the train. This wouldn't be hard at all as long as you are thoughtful about the location and species.
Tatsu definitely is the crazier ride, but Manta is close with everything taken into consideration with the presentation.
My fav flying coaster
I prefer a few but not many.
Just rode this last month! This ride is exceptional and can’t wait to hear your take on it in this video!
It is a great ride.
This coaster is great. The only drawback is being stuck on the brake run for 5 min. on a 90+ degree day directly in the sun. Has happened to me a few times. This is one of my home parks so I just avoid it on hot summer days. Never understood why B&M couldn't have designed the trains to come down on the brake run.
That would have been a nice feature.
My record on Manta is 13 rides in a row. I happened to go on a day during the soft opening when it was a walk on for a few hours. It was my first flyer, and still my favorite.
Nice! I usually marathon Mako there.
Fun fact. Part od Manta's soundtrack is actually the main theme for the 2005 space film Zathura. Listen to the rides music while in line and then watch the film when you get home to know that it's the music heard during the opening credits. Also watch the movie because it's extremely underrated.
I saw Zathura a long time ago. Didn't realize the two shared a connection
I'm not familiar with Zathura. But to add to your fun fact, other parts of Manta's soundtrack come from the movie Deep Blue Sea. My favorite part of Manta's soundtrack can be heard here, starting at the 52-second mark: ua-cam.com/video/5i4wMZnaG7w/v-deo.html
it’s no longer my number one coaster, but still my favourite coaster. got a back row night ride in the final week of 2023 and the pretzel loop is by far and away the most intense element i’ve experienced. my baby blue 💙
I love pretzel loops.
I’ve only been on 2 flying coasters. Firehawk, and Superman: Ultimate Flight at great America, and much preferred the B&M version, over Vekoma. Manta, and Tatsu are on my bucket list! Great review.
Manta and Tatsu are way better than those two.
This was my first flyer and man do I wish I rode it more than once. Going up the lift was quite the freaky view but after clearing the first drop the ride was a blast, one of my favorites in Florida for sure.
I always like to ride it a few times when there.
My first and only flyer was Nighthawk at Carowinds. I remember going up the lift hill on my back, but when it flipped me over I had no idea what to hold onto. I grabbed onto the vest hoping that it was strong enough to stay together. It felt like I was about to die as I headed straight toward the water. I’ve never felt so alive in my life
I prefer the B&M flyers.
@@CanobieCoaster I’m sure you do. They look much smoother, this one is no exception
Nighthawk has some shake to it, but Batwing at Six Flags America was glossy smooth when I rode it. It has an excellent layout, which I thought was better than the layout of any B&M flyer in the U.S. However, I still like Manta more than Batwing. There is something special about it. I do think Nighthawk is better than the Superman fliers, as the Superman fliers are very tame after the pretzel loop.
Canobie Coaster would say:
So what would I rate Manta? I would give this flyer a 9 out of 10. This is a fantastic coaster. The layout is well-integrated into the park and its surroundings. Those visuals make the experience so blissful. Then the ride has some exciting drops and inversions, most notably that uber intense pretzel loop towards the start.
This is neck-and-neck with Tatsu at Six Flags Magic Mountain for my favorite flying coaster in the United States. I think Manta is the more complete ride, but I give the slight edge to Tatsu for...
A) the smoother ride.
B) the similarly intense pretzel loop.
C) the even crazier pretzel loop and the more intense ride.

Very nice video. Thanks for posting this.
You're welcome.
Just went on it yesterday! It's really a great ride.
Sure is.
Love How There's No Consensus On The Definitive 1-2 Punch Unlike Silver Dollar City Six Flags Over Georgia Kennywood Etc: There's 4 Coasters That Could Be Considered The 2nd Best Reminds Me So Much Of Kings Island
That's fair!
You got me in the video working 😂
Nice!
Simply Mantastic
Yes it is.
I still need to ride this ride but the flying dinosaur in USJ looks to be the best flying coaster which also has a great 0 car
That is the best B&M flyer.
Going into this ride, the only flyer I had ridden was Superman at SFGAM. Now when I rode Superman I was not impressed, the pretzel loop was as forceless as could be, the turns were slow and uneventful, and the only cool part of the ride in my opinion was the last inversion, which caught me off guard. Superman was Super-underwhelming, and going into Manta, I thought it looked like a Superman clone with some extra turns and inversions…
Boy was I wrong.
First of all, the first drop actually felt like a drop, this is something even some inverts can’t achieve. The pretzel loop was so forceful it made me scream like a little girl (easily one of the most intense moments on any coaster I’ve experienced), the turns and inversions throughout the layout actually felt forceful, also the trains on Manta just felt more comfortable. The trains on Superman made my thighs hurt, while I felt like I could fall asleep in these ones. I am now a fan of B&M flyers, and I am excited to try other amazing flyers like Tatsu and Flying Dino.
That's odd to hear a pretzel loop was forceless. They always deliver for me.
@@CanobieCoaster IDK maybe it was just the weather that day, I just remember being super underwhelmed on Superman’s pretzel loop. Manta’s pretzel more than delivered, like I said I was screaming like a little girl it was so intense.
Manta was my first major coaster.
Bold first major coaster!
I've never been on a flying coaster before, but they look super cool. You kept mentioning the positive Gs being really strong, but how does the air time on a flying coaster compare to that of a regular coaster? Does it still feel like you're falling at any point?
It's an odd feeling since you lift up while prone. The US flyers only have a smidge of airtime though.
@@CanobieCoaster Interesting. Maybe I'll give it a try if I ever go to a park that has one. I've never been to a SeaWorld park before, but you made Manta look pretty enticing.
Normally I would have went in 2 weeks, so sad I won't😥
Thanks soms friends
Hope you can go soon!
What do you think of the first Jinma Rides flying coaster at Silk Road Paradise in Xianyang with the B&M style track, Vekoma flying dutchman style dispacht and the amazing theming with the rockwork surrounding the coaster ?
If it's smooth, the layout looks solid.
Do you think the Pretzel Loop is better at the beginning (ex. Manta) or towards the end (Tatsu)?
No preference where it occurs for me. I prefer Tatsu's for the added size.
I still think it's a mistake to have 5 of your 8 coasters from one company. Even though I respect no manufacturer more. But only the kiddie coaster, Journey to Atlantis and Icebreaker aren't B&M. It's a popular ride but only among a select target group. Most parents and older folk don't seem to ride it. At least from my hour or so of watching the entrance while people watching. I've never seen the double station in use. I do love the aquariums in the queue and exit. I just dont' really like flyers, honestly. They're all right, but I don't like having to crane my neck to look forward and they're kind of uncomfortable. About as comfortable as you can make it, I guess. I think pretzel rolls are just a little too intense too. I guess they're fine, but still. I mean, just imagine walking on a planet with even half of a gravity like that. You'd just collapse after a minute.
I don't mind a ton of rides from one manufacturer. For me it's about hitting all demographics and ride types. Penguin Trek is just what the park needed, a good low height limit family coaster.
Nice ride but, the loading and unloading is always exceptionally slow, they only typically run one side, and it’s really uncomfortable. These types of coasters just need to go IMO.
I like the rides, but it can be annoying getting stuck on the brakes in that position.
WOW I totally forget how faded from the sun the coaster was before being repainted a couple years ago. It looks terrible in this video lol.
My footage is a mix of before and after.
Imagine saying:
I have a slight preference for
I give the slight edge to
What are the differences between those two terms? What do you think?
Those are the same.
I dont think I would ever ride another coaster with the pretzel loop, the gs were way too much in that position.
It is very intense.
Go ride Tatsu. It’s better. It’s massive.
The two rides are close for me.
Us too.
Tatsu is way better. It’s built so high off the ground it really feels like flight
The two are very close for me.
Tatsu is the best in the states. 🙂
I agree, but Manta is close.
I love Manta but for me it doesn’t hold a candle to Tatsu.
It's close for me.
Tatsu is so much a better experience.
They're close for me.
To get on this ride, do you have to empty your pockets and put your wallet and cell phone in a locker? I have zipper pockets on my shorts; does that matter?
You are allowed to keep items in secured, zippered pockets.
@@CanobieCoaster What about the coasters at Univeral Orlando?
@@theoseeley9661velocicoaster and Hulk have metal detectors. Phones aren’t allowed but they let me keep my wallet in a zipped pocket.
