Have read this story so many years ago and never forgot it. What a coincidence to get it in my feed on UA-cam. Thank you from the grateful subscriber for your work and time for us to enjoy it.

I got rid of Netflix and chose to pay for premium YT so no adverts, it’s worth it if you listen to a lot l YT. I do quite a lot of meditation pods and breathing with Sandy really can’t be doing with adverts😊
Had to hit the dislike button. I was up in the middle of the night and hoping to find something fun to listen to. The amount of pointless exposition is mind numbing in this. 5/5 flushes 🚽.
So this man was drawn away by the cares of life and ends up with the common regrets of one that puts superficial success ahead of a true desire. That may well be the point in the story, setting aside imagination and wonder of youth for the mechanizations of life. A common story, but not every ones. Some choose to deal with the scorn of the world for it. Almost sounds like he rejected heaven for the cares of the world, in another sense. It does seem silly now that he enjoyed the height of success and when it came to life's downsides and it grew mundane to him, then he wanted the door. You can't have your cake and eat it, too. Again, a common story of most people.

Amazing story about that elusive mystical place we rarely glimpse because we're too embroiled in the mundane.
Eloquent description!!
Like the dream of winning the lottery, it's a warning not to let our fantasies become our goal, else we'll forget to live our lives.
Excellent voice and awesome reading

I've always loved this story. First read it when I was 14.
Arthur Lane is one of the best.
One of my favourite Wells stories, I wish Mark Gatiss would do this for xmas😊
So well written and well read! Listened during the day so the ads didn’t bother me much!
Excellent reading thank you.

Doesn’t this sound like Rod Sterling’s “A Stop at Willoughby” , of the Twilight Zone?
Yes it does. On New Year's Eve into New Years, Metv had a Twilight Zone marathon. That was one of the episodes aired. Sterling knew his shit well.
I have correct myself…Serling not sterling( I’m in the UK, pound sterling comes to my mind often )
@@afonsodealbuquerque4115you’re a man of sterling character.
Too many ads, shame, I'm off.
The ads are so frequent I just. gave up,

this is incredibly lame
Philistine
I think cynics do not like this kind of thing. Its not the real world meaning not their world.
What a stupid title. Arnt all doors in Walls
Not all doors, are built in a wall, a garage door isn't
@PrivateJustice is there not a wall on both sides of a garage door.
@@martymartin2894 a gun cabinet door is not built into a wall, I could go on just saying
A Johnny on the spot door is not built into a wall
@PrivateJustice what's it built into?.
