I'm not sure. Jade lives on an island that I THINK is in the pacific, near Fiji and Samoa, which are far from Japan. The closest to japan I think she would be is near Guam, so still, no idea.
Maybe because jade as a material was used commonly in ancient china? I realize that it's kind of a loose connection, but china and japan are culturally similar enough for it to make at least a little sense.
