“It’s okay to eat fish, because they don’t have any feelings” has been my favorite song lyric since the 90’s. I’ve always interpreted it as a reference to his zodiac sign and the feeling of not being emotionally bonded with anyone or anything.

It is such a memorable lyric. Interesting how you connected it to Kurt Cobain being a Pisces and the sense of emotional detachment. 🐠

It was a masterstroke from Butch Vig to recognise the majesty of Kurt performing it on his accoustic guitar and capturing the quiet intensity of the song.

      100% agree!
I for one wouldn’t have had the wherewithal to grab a mic like Butch Vig, when Kurt said “It’s needs to sound exactly like this.”… despite my being surrounded by tens of thousands of dollars worth of musical recording gear… in a studio of all places… unless Kurt had also said something like… “Are you ready?”

Hey, been a fan for a bit now. I absolutely love your videos, and I'm a huge huge HUGE fan of grunge. My favorite video of yours is the one about Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden, which is also probably my favorite band. Either Soundgarden or Nirvana. Great video here, as usual. I'm also a huge fan of Alice In Chains, and your video on Rooster was super well made. I would love to make a suggestion for another AIC video, about Would?, which is their most iconic song. It was made in honor of Andrew Wood, for a movie called Singles. It's great to see you growing, since I remember a few weeks ago you had around 200 subs. Thanks for the great content, and, as usual, keep up the good work! 😄

One of my closest friends and bass player in my band committed suicide about nine months ago. It reminded me of something Courtney said about Kurt, that he was obsessed with the void of nihilism. And thoughts of suicide. I spoke with my friend‘s wife last night, and she expressed similar words, saying that he was like a man possessed. I wish she would’ve reached out. I wish I would’ve reached out to him. But he didn’t let anybody know. He was just there one day, and gone the next. And left nothing but unanswered questions and a family and children without a father now. I can’t imagine how Frances Bean must feel listening to songs like this of her father’s.

I’ve had this song. The melody the lyrics. All of what it is has followed me my entire life. I was born 1990. Now even to this day it is still the same for me as it was. Underneath the bridge. Tarp has sprung a leak.. a leak that so many would see as a issue or inconvenience as the roof leaking would…. Trapping animals who are now pets, is to me the reference of the act of desperation to consume because we all have to eat in order to live. So living off of grass. And drippings from the ceiling, the fresh water that can be collected fills that area of survival. But yet the knowing that animals all have a way to respond to us. Meaning simply that they feel things too. Also they don’t understand things because of the obvious differences we are. But yet so closely related because we still feel. We still have to go through life and survive not only us but our young that we procreate. … it’s ok eat fish cause they don’t have feelings, to me represents the awful sacrifice having to make in knowing that they are still living. They are amongst the earth with just as much reason to be as we are. But yet the only left option to the compromise that is live or die. Choose your hearts intuition or your desire for life. .. so powerful. I’ll never let this go

Compared with other male leading grunge bands I always feel Hole does not get the recognition they deserve and are overshadowed by them. It’s wild kurt hated the production of nevermind, apparently he felt like it was over produced. I’m a huge fan of Steve albinis style of producing in utero, and his work on the pixies surfa Rosa album however some of nirvanas best sounding recorded songs were done by bitch vig on nevermind imo. Something in the way, territorial pissings, Polly, smells like teen spirit, lithium were all masterfully done and butch showing what he did on each song in a documentary was really sick

I cant understand how somone can be so sure about what another human thought at a certain moment, most likely even during a lsd trip or on a heavy dose of heroin. I dont fully agree how Courtney or you interpret the lyrics. But Kurt did this with purpose anyway. He gave us lyrics with nearly endless possibilities to interpret them and to think about them, thats the thing. The less fixed sense it makes to you in the beginning, the more you have to think about it to find a solution. Good one Kurt, you are in our heads. Until today, or something in the way. I am a negative creep but its ok, so are you. Peace and love.

I only heard this about 6 mnths ago and those are the vibes I get off it. I'm 60 and have written quite a few myself. Alot of nirvanna is new to me never paid much attention to po pmusic before.
