Add in that most pro sharpeners make the rounds of various fabric stores once a month, so you have to drop them off in advance so they can be picked up, sharpened, and returned. It means you're going to be without your scissors for a week or more, depending on timing. Easier to just ensure that everyone knows the grievous harm that will come from inappropriate use of the fabric scissors.

after i hit puberty i had a 15 inch hip to waist ratio. they straight up didn't make jeans that catered to me in 2012. i don't know if there are jeans out there you like that fit your hips but don't fit your waist, and i know that our body types are different. but learning how to stitch the back waistbands of my jeans closed/tighter was a lifesaver for me. i'd take in a bit at the sides + about 2 inches on each side of the center beltloop. once those were removed i had jeans that fit me comfortably. if you have a sewing machine make sure to get denim specific needles - i always hand stitched mine with upholstery needles and DMC embroidery thread or doubled up on sewing thread. takes a few hours but worth it to be able to buy jeans for not $90
I've always just tacked the fabric together a few times. If the end result is snug, a longer shirt hides any little bumps perfectly. Ditto on making sure your needles and thread can handle denim though, no one wants to have to find an "emergency belt".

You can sharpen you scissors by "cutting" glass. For example take a glass bottle and make "cuts" (you are of course not cutting the glass through) on the bottle neck. My mind wass blown how well this hack worked.

I feel your annoyance!!! I was given the genetics of a small waist with big hips and typical jeans don't fit. So I use stretchy pants that use an almost-jean instead- or just use a belt with wide legs but I despise not being able to move my limbs easily

I also have the big ass+thin waist situation and I recently bought a pair of Levi 721 High Rise Skinny jeans that fit SHOCKINGLY well for a random grab from Target. I once had to search for a month for a pair of jeans that fit so finding these was like magic. (Ymmv but I love them).
I mean, I do have a advice for what you can do with the extra pieces of jeans, which is save them so when eventually the areas of the pants that either gets ripped from either wear and tear or from just constantly wearing the same pair of pants so now you have a matching patch

Hello! Just a tip, you can use a glass jar to sharpen scissors if you don’t have a shaper for it! You use the rim of the jar to sharpen it! I’ll see if I can find a video for it
