    Fantastic! A perfect perfomance with singers from all around the world and with any skin color. In addition, in perfect german
    pronunciation! I'm a German, I love this video.

    Impressive. I love the fact that this choir has a distinctly un-American sound: vibrato is kept firmly in check and their German is not too shabby either (compared to the usual wild "look-at-me-I've-had-a-bit-of-voice-training" wobbles and bizarre pronunciation). Well done.

      Beeindruckend. Gut gemacht.

      It's amazing how many (bad) choral musicians claim that any vibrato is a wobble. It is a different aesthetic, but honestly many of the best choirs (those that were conducted by Robert Shaw for example), sing with a healthy vibrato while balancing with the other singers in the ensemble. It's too bad that many take the easy way out and tell the singers with more interesting timbres to cut the color out of their sounds to "blend" with mediocre voices.

      Hmmm. Intersting comments.
      No mention of time period in which the piece was written, and what genre of singers did the composer have in mind when composing the piece. Most trained singing musicians in the US or elsewhere have the ability to sing senza vibrato,",shimmer" or relaxed vibrato depending on the time period and composer.

    Phantastisch! Unglaublich schön zu sehen, wie ein US-amerikanischer Chor nicht nur Mendelssohn interpretiert, sondern sprachlich perfekt ist. Dass die Darbietung mehr als perfekt ist, muss ich nicht erwähnen, denn ich habe auch über Jahre in einem Chor gesungen, aber so gut waren wir bei diesem Werk nie. Viele Grüße aus Deutschland (Greetings from germany). Many thanks for this impressive performance! That's how Mendelssohn must sound! As a European, I am very pleased that all nationalities are represented in your choir! That's our world...

    Ein absoluter grandioser Chor Sound. Wenn man ganz picky sein will, dann ist lediglich der erste Fraueneinsatz etwas unsicher, aber das ist bereits nach einer halben Sekunde vergessen, und was dann kommt ist einfach nur grandios.

    I sang this in English, but I think the original German seems more serious. This rendition is excellent. The harmonies at 2:49 and 2:55 get to me. I think teaanv's comments are phrased well and very complimentary.

    • @garywait3231
      @garywait3231 Рік тому +1

      Yes. I agree. I have sung it in both languages (am reasonably fluent in Hochdeutsch), and conducted it in English. I agree that I prefer the German. But regardless, this performance was inspiring, both musically and linguistically.

    I would have liked to have gotten more sound out of the basses in this one (yeah I know, I'm being a bit nit-picky) but basses really enrich the already good sound of Mendelssohn pieces, and this rendition seemed to show off the range of their tenors more than anything else. I still enjoyed it, thanks for uploading!

    this is beautiful. however, romantic music should not be straight tone. but none the less, a wonderful rendition of the piece.

    • @Harmonic7th
      @Harmonic7th 10 років тому +7

      Regardless of what it "should" be, it's better this way. Might Mendelssohn have preferred with a more operatic tone? Perhaps. But for my ears, this is perfection. Just because a composer (or a time period of music history) may have wanted it one way, doesn't mean it's the best way. This is supurb.

    • @lancetekk
      @lancetekk 10 років тому +4

      Actually, straight tone is often terrible for non-solo parts (read: choire), because it is almost impossible to get all singers to synchronize their vibrato. The result would be a mess and totally not in style with Mendelsohn's focus on clear and melodic phrases.

    • @ZBGregory
      @ZBGregory 6 років тому +3

      Although the Bel Canto style of singing is recommended for all singing. This piece doesn't adapt too well. It's a big enough group so I don't think it would be that intrusive. Recording can be challenging with groups and heavy vibrato. I think with a 80 person choir, it would sound nice.
      In MY opinion this is a polyphonic piece with very little counterpoint, plus its composed by mendelssohn so it's very chordally structured which I think fits straight tone singing. The voice leading us beautiful and the chord progression is more obvious in the straight tone.
      I like it.

      I have a copy of the original because our chamber choir is sing this piece. It's the exact same arrangement by the same guy but they raised it a half step.
