I would've checked out the new show had it not been called The Wonder Years. Reboots always pale in comparison. My fav moment will always be the kiss in the pilot.
One huge moment is missing. At prom night, many couples dancing. Kevin and Winnie enter the floor, trying to find one another, but can't. They just walk right past each other. And the narrator goes: "All our young lives we search for someone to love. Someone who makes us complete. We choose partners and change partners. We danced to a song of heartbreak and hope. All the while wondering if somewhere, somehow, there's someone perfect, who might be searching for us.". Just beautiful and heartbreaking.
A mí me gustó el capítulo que bailan agarrados y luego se van en el coche y el de la puerta de la hamburguesería que se comen a besos. Yo era muy fanático de esta pareja. Cuando discutían o rompían lo pasaba muy mal. Quería mucho a Kevin y a Winnie.
This! I've read somewhere that most viewers didn't like that Kevin and Winnie didn't end up together once they became adults. I wish more shows don't normalize main characters ending up together so that the show would be genuine and not sugarcoated
It may be the case that they would not have been suited to be a couple in the end. Even though they were childhood sweethearts, and had some good times together, as adults, they grew apart, they had different life goals.
I can identify w/your statement even though in my case it's not 100% true. I really didn't have a childhood sweetheart, nor one in high school. Didn't go to college till partway through my time in the USAF. Seems like being born "late" has followed me for a long time, starting with the delay in snagging a true girlfriend/fiancee. Not till 1977 as an adult did I "find" Susan, so she's like a childhood sweetheart in my mind. And it's bittersweet all over again--we're 0 (wins) & 2 (losses). Hmmmm.........

Such a lovely cast, filled with lovely music!!!! 💗 For anyone who can’t or won’t take at least five minutes out of their day, see the heart and soul within these stories and faces don’t know anything about all different kinds of love and about being a part of a family. Really liked the season 5 ending episode at the restaurant. Kevin finally owns up to his feelings and let her know them and Winnie responds, with passionate kiss. Amazing what happens when you communicate feelings openly and honestly, not playing games.
Came here exactly to see if the Accident episode was number 1 after a second rewatch of the series. While the theme of the series is the realistic world, every main character was portrayed as the average realistic person except for Winnie who was portrayed always as the perfect girl until the accident episode. It was the episode that showed that Winnie is just human too.
@@baconbits3731 That's a really good point. I'd not really thought about that, but you're quite right. The shock of seeing her come off the rails - well in Winnie terms anyway! - really gave that episode a different dynamic.
I find the scene itself to be metaphoric Kevin is on one side of the window out side, looking in to the perfection he desires. Throughout the series he becomes angry at adversity or what he believes is non-perfection. He is always out side looking into the perfection. Also, with him and Winnie they can see each other perfectly but there is still something between them.
One of my favorite shows OF ALL TIME ! I watch at least an episode a day on Hulu. I'm 37 so I remember and watched it when it premiered and so going back and watching any episode is always a pleasure.
30 years later I still shed a tear in the finale at the part where Kevin says that Wayne took over the factory when dad passed away. Great, great television.
As someone who was pouty about Kevin/Winnie not being endgame for years, I'm starting to realize it was set up like that for a reason. Yes, some people do end up with their first love, but many don't, and Kevin and Winnie kept being friends.
The heartbreaking moment for me was on the series finale when Kevin revealed he picked up Winnie up from the airport....with his wife and first son. It bursts your child's bubble
As gruff as his dad was, that moment where Kevin comes into the garage after breaking up with Winnie is my fav moment. Reminds me of just how tough my dad was on the outside, but deep down very loving.
Thanks so much for this! Kevin and Winnie are one of the best otps in tv history! The Wonder Years is still just as iconic, classic and nostalgic as it was when it aired. Idk about how this reboot will turn out but in my opinion magic doesn't repeat and lightening only gets caught in a bottle once and this show can't really be replicated no matter how many have tried.

They perfectly catch how we all feel at certain moments of childhood.. our first best friend, our first kiss with our first girlfriend, school dances, our first breakup and how it absolutely demolishes you but you soldier on, our first makeup, and how certain things seem like theyre earth shattering at the time and not so bad only a week later. I dont care what the thrown together finale said. I dont care what anyone says. Kevin & Winnie ended up together. Maybe later if in life but one way or another they together.
This and Tour of Duty were my appointment TV back in high school. And if I had to go out and miss an episode, which I rarely did, well, that's what VHS tapes were for. ; )
Winnie Cooper's brother Brian died in The Vietnam War. He must have been cool. Kevin Arnold met the lovely Madeleine in 'Ninth Grade Man'. The Wizard(1989) is a fun family film.
I used to feel so bad for Kevin. Winnie hurt this poor kid repeatedly. I had an unrealistic hate for winnie’s character. My teenage self actually cried at almost every episode.
Although I've always told myself that Kevin and Winnie would eventually be together as they grew older, love always come through in the end. I even envisioned myself that they were be together when they got older
I won't lie, but winnie does have a habit of not listening even when kevin is at fault. She really bottles in her emotions, but then again she dealt with some events that made her angry and sad.
i use to have a massive crush on winnie. i could relate to kevin arnold as i had friend who i suddenly had feeling for as we grew up. but this isnt tv. she didnt feel the same.
This show could deliver more angst in a single sentence, spoken by character or narration, than many acclaimed dramas could deliver over years. The happy family and title are misleading that this is a light hearted story of youth. Winnie, especially, is one of the most complex character I've ever come across in television, movies, and books. The depth of this show could give the Bronte sisters a run for their money and I'm completely incense they've remade because it's not a typical TV show. The way this show could explore complex and seemingly intangible topics is what made it compelling. In the first episode alone it takes on war, death, the grieving process, young love, and growing up. In another episode it takes on the father-son relationship, in another it takes on politics when the kids participate in a walk out to protest the Vietnam War as a form of civil disobedience since they're too young to vote... so I just don't see a remake striking the same emotional cords much less being able to artfully balance between kids losing their innocence that isn't cynical yet they maintain a youthful optimism that isn't simply childhood naiveté.
This is a very astute comment. And to be real the remake at least didn't try to just race swap The Arnolds of Winnie and Paul. It is a different family. It actually looks decent but the problem is they were too chicken to just take a chance and give it its own title. Naming it The Wonder Years has only hurt that show not helped it. You just can't compare to how original and iconic the original show was.
U hit many nails on the head, and your post is by far the most poignant and informative. My take on this show is dat it was a drawn out Vietnam war protest-- after seeing the dad and Wayne on the tarmac and the final line telling Wayne dat the army ( and by extension , the government -- Nixon) is lying ,to get recruits ( can't remember the exact script, but dats the message). Another example was when Karen flashed the peace sign at her graduation ceremony. The other main evidence for my statement is none other than the very first episode, when it was revealed dat Winnie's brother got killed in 'Nam. Dat one hit like a brick. Talk about being broadsided. When the first and last episode were both about Vietnam, and the fact dat its setting was 1970-- at the height of the war, leaves little doubt .... I think dat the producer(s) had a personal, lifelong vendetta against Nixon ( and rightly so) , probably because offspring may have been lost directly due to him lying to Americans, and intensifying the war . This show had tremendous depth and I was left awe and dumbstruck after more episodes dat I can remember. There will never be another wonder years, as I've long said dat , since 1950, the morals and intelligence of each succeeding american generation has decreased exponentially, until we're surrounded by the excrement dat passes for people, music and entertainment of today. The slightest hint of scandal would've doomed one's political career--compare dat with Trump/Stormy stripper and Biden/ Hellboy Hunter..... Thank u 4 your excellent post. I hope I manage 2 give readers some insight as well.
They will never make these types of shows ever. The Wonder Years is just handful of wholesome family tv night that touches all. I was born in the 70s , raised in the 80s, lived through the 90s and saw all of those shows that will always take me back to a time of worry free innocence. Miss you dad😇
I was wondering if they would make a sequel series like fuller house and maybe having a wonder years that take place in the 90's or the 2000's. millennials and Gen x would have been able to relate to a kid/teen growing up in that era.
what the hell happened to good tv like this? how did society decide that reality garbage was better? watching this made me feel 10 years old all over again, i can smell my childhood home
I really wish there had been one more season of The Wonder Years. Their senior year of high school. The series could have ended with their graduating high school and Kevin and Winnie happily dating all through their senior year.
Unfortunately it was planned but in 92-93 fred savage and Jason Hervey had a false accused sexual harassment lawsuit from one of the shows costume designers. Fred, Jason, and the rest of the shows cast and creators denied ever doing or seeing what was accused. Unfortunately the show was cancelled early because they didn't want backlash and bad publicity from it, but it is a regret from the show runners and cast canceling this legendary show. She lost the suit as it was dropped, and fred and Jason were never charged with anything because she admitted it was a lie after lack of evidence and all the refusal. Her interest for money and attention cut short a great show.
Looking back on this series, makes me appreciate how traumatised Winnie was over losing her big brother. It wasn't a "pilot episode" thing that was quickly forgotten, it was a central part of her character.
As sad as it was in the end that they didn't end up together in the last episode the fact that they continued to be there for eachother is touching. Their relationship went beyond being lovers. I can even picture a tragedy like Kevin's wife dieing and the fact that his children are grown and moved away it's Winnie who comforts him.
5 or 6 years of angst and sweaty palms in 12 minutes.....with NO commercial breaks and no season finale enders where you have to wait until the beginning of next season.
My 1st childhood crush. I loved Fred Savage and Kevin Arnold. I was always sad that he didn’t like Becky Slater the same way and if Winnie Cooper didn’t want him I’d take him 🤷🏼♀️❤️🥰
Went here exactly to if the accident episode is number 1. After a second rewatch, that episode became my favorite because it was the only episode that highlights Winnie is also just human and also makes mistakes. All throughout the series, all of the main characters were portrayed as the average and realistic person and although they have their stereotypes, most of them were able to show a different dimension of their character in various episodes except for Winnie who was always portrayed as the perfect girl until the Accident Episode.
Cara from The Lake and Back To The Lake was probably my favorite of all Kevin's "girls." Seems like the one I would have gotten on with best myself. Well, her and Denise The Grease Lavelle. Who doesn't love a sexy, shapely gearhead blonde who's also literate and reads and cherishes classic 18th century poetry? No disrespect to the lovely Winnie Cooper, of course. I'd like to imagine that Cara and Kevin reconnected later and that when he meets Winnie at the airport with his son and wife, (final episode) his wife was in fact Cara. : D : )
I agree with the list, especially the top one. Still makes me tear up to this day. The only missing that I might add is the one where Kevin and winnie wonder around the dance floor looking for each other.
All formidable chapters. But I liked the happy moments of Kevin and Winnie the most. Episode of the first kiss, episode when Winnie says I love you to Kevin in the moving truck and they hug. Episode when they leave school and Kevin tells Winnie "I like you" and they become friends. Kissing room episode and ends with Winnie kissing Kevin on the bridge in an intimate place. Winnie's accident episode with the window scene. Episode of the dance they grab each other and leave with the car. Episode of the restaurant door that they eat with kisses. Chinese food episode where Winnie surprises Kevin with a message and gives him a surprise. Final episode in the barn.
Funny how relationships change. I was with my ex for 7 years. For the first 5 it was like the perfect relationship. We never fought or anything. Nothing serious anyways. Then after we broke up something changed. We got back together about 4 months ago and she was cheating on me, accusing me of it, and she destroyed every bit of love and respect I had for her. She just left over the weekend. The crazy thing is she's dying of cancer. I'm confused as hell, sick, angry, and I want to blame it all on the cancer at the same time. It sucks.
💔 : I feel for you ( and her ) . Ugly break 😢 . Reading your comment from Australia , my Mum is suffering from cancer . It could be terminal ( for my mother ) & she could have only 12 months to live ? Cancer treatment ( chemotherapy ) takes ALOT out of cancer patients . It not only makes them vomit and lose weight/their appetite & hair but also makes them lose their memory ( as the chemotherapy radiation kills alot of the good cells in the body along with the cancer cells including brain cells ) . My heart brakes for the two of you and I hope you two can reconcile regardless of what destiny's plan is for each of you . ♑✍️🇳🇴🇦🇺

I dont care what the thrown together finale said. I dont care what anyone says. Kevin & Winnie ended up together. Maybe later if in life but one way or another they together.
I agree!
My teenage self actually cried at almost every episode.
kevin had more love in his first 12 years of his life than most adults in USA have in there whol elife times.
I guess Kevin never realized a little cutie like Winnie was having diarrhea when he wasn't around lol.
I watched every episode... The very last episode was a killer...
Good days good memories
I loved this show so much ♥️
Number 2 was always my favorite ❤
Oh, man, why am I now crying like a baby?
Although I've always told myself that Kevin and Winnie would eventually be together as they grew older, love always come through in the end. I even envisioned myself that they were be together when they got older
@ctw. Can you imagine if they had gotten married in real life? You know, like Mila and Ashton did after being a couple on That 70s Show? 😊
I won't lie, but winnie does have a habit of not listening even when kevin is at fault. She really bottles in her emotions, but then again she dealt with some events that made her angry and sad.
When she opened her hand to show the ring Kevin gave her that she had thrown away.
The accident episode with Kevin talking to Winnie through the closed window was a tear-jerker regardless how tuff somebody is🥲
With the right context definitely
Jesus this breaks me up inside!
One of my favorite shows ever
What other shows like this would you recommend which feels real to watch?
@@abhimanyu3704 The Waltons.
i use to have a massive crush on winnie.
i could relate to kevin arnold as i had friend who i suddenly had feeling for as we grew up. but this isnt tv. she didnt feel the same.
I remember watching this show saying to myself “Why can’t these two just stay together?” 😂
I agree.
I love this show
They will never make these types of shows ever.
The episode when Winnie's brother got killed in Vietnam made me cry my eyes out, i was 31 then.
I remember watching this when I was in Germany but I was really young only remember a little about the wonder years
what the hell happened to good tv like this? how did society decide that reality garbage was better? watching this made me feel 10 years old all over again, i can smell my childhood home
@@Thelegend-lo6qf heard that too!!
Every time she saw something better she dropped Kevin like a bad habit until it doesn't work out and she runs back to him 😆🤣😂
Yes, that’s what I did not like about her. But it’s probably one of the reasons he didn’t marry her. They were probably better off as just friends.
Looking back on this series, makes me appreciate how traumatised Winnie was over losing her big brother. It wasn't a "pilot episode" thing that was quickly forgotten, it was a central part of her character.
Instead of a reboot. They should have seen how the characters from the original show are at now.
Reboot is good but i actually agree i rather see adult them
Now that wouldve been a cool show.
The nostalgia 🙂
5 or 6 years of angst and sweaty palms in 12 minutes.....with NO commercial breaks and no season finale enders where you have to wait until the beginning of next season.
Interesting how the first episode had Kevin and Winnie have their first kiss...and the last episode they have their first passionate hug in the barn.
Plus, it’s left up to our imagination if they lost their virginity in the barn scene.
Becky is Winnie’s real life sister who tried out for the part of Winnie too.
So happy they got married I'll end up wit my Winnie
I'm 41 years old and I didn't know until today that Fred Savage is the brother of the guy from Boy Meets World
Kevin and Winnie's first kiss.
Love💜
"He says you're crazy about me!" Fred Savage was perfect as Kevin!! The Wonder Years was the best show!!
That first episode was something tho
I love this tv show. My top one! Every guy already had an Winnie Cooper in his life.
The first two episodes are THE best fictional TV productions of all time all genres IMO
Denial is the best, but sad at the same time! Peace!
Best episode by far. Acting was superb!
the cutest girl - EVER on TV

@Friendship1nmillion sorry for your mother. Yeah I've seen cancer several times with loved ones. It's a terrible one. I hope the chemotherapy helps!
Great List -- I would have put their first kiss from the pilot episode at #1, but no one reasonably fault your choice here.
Now make a top of Cory and Topanga moments!
Let’s go Savage brother’s!
*That pilot episode first kiss was what I liked the most*
I find the I love you scene itself to be metaphoric Kevin is on one side of the window out side, looking in to the perfection he desires. Throughout the series he becomes angry at adversity or what he believes is non-perfection. He is always out side looking into the perfection. Also, with him and Winnie they can see each other perfectly but there is still something between them.
We all had that one high school sweetheart that we will never forget but move on.
Lindo demais ! É minha adolescência ! Um beijo e um abraço forte do Brasil
