Sorry baby, gotta fly. Watched this when I was around 7 years old with my older bro, don't think any of Miyazaki's films stuck to me as much as Porco Rosso. Now 23, this film still leaves a bittersweet nostalgia in me whenever I hear its osts. Everyone references Spirited Away or Laputa or Totoro, and while I do agree to a certain extent of the achievement in these great films, Porco is what resonated to me the most while growing up from a child to a teenager to a young adult and eventually to an adult. Like Gina, I would also fall in love with a man who says to me, sorry baby, gotta fly. It's the chasing of those unstaying, fleeting moments in life that spurs us. It's wanting to grasp something unobtainable that makes it all the more romantic. And it's the act of trying to reverse something irreversible that made me fall in love with this pig.
I swear proco rosso is one of the most underrated movies of ghibli and idk why. I remember first watching it not knowing what to expect. The humor, atmosphere, characters and music are so on point i was completely amazed. Definitely my top 4 miyazaki movie.🙏🏼
perhaps it doesn't play in the same league as spirited away or castle in the sky bcs it has many plot holes and the ending was abruptly finished without answering a lot of questions.
I just watched this film last night. It is such a classic that intrigued me the whole way. It has such a bitter sweet taste to it, where the movie can have its joyful, sad, and dark times. Yet, its a movie we can all enjoy till the end. Also as I'm writing this I just realized this movie is literally about a pig flying. Only Ghibli...I swear lol
I watched this film today and Im totally thinking like you.Ghibli's films has different taste compared to other studios. Its like Im sweeping with the film in film's situation.
That switch at the end from the whole duel to the future, though. Fios monolog broke me. I was so bend on a happy ending with them celebrating at the hotel and Marco becoming human again. But I think thats especially what gives this movie its bittersweet taste.
When I hear this song I feel like I am a 80-year old man sitting on the porch of my countryside home with a cool glass of lemonade in my hand, thinking about an old love from my past that never truly resolved. I watch my grandchildren play out in the fields while the sun sets over them and the breeze gently brushes my face. The tears well in my eyes, but never quite make it out. My daughter puts her hand on my shoulder, and I turn to look at her. She looks just like her mother - beautiful and wise. I realize that despite all the heartaches, the failed relationships, the angry mistakes, and the words left unsaid, that I have nothing to regret and I am happy. I close my eyes, and silently bid goodbye to that long lost love.
I remember watching Porco Rosso in my grandma's cozy old room in 2011 for the first time on the television in Mongolia. The distinct vibe and awesome animation made me fall in love with it. I still hold dear that memory to this day. I was stunned at the scene when he becomes human in the ocean cove island before the dogfight and also the stunning Italian adriatic view.
I was 21, still a child in my head, when I did a walking route of 156 km along the mountains of Los Alcornocales, here, in the south of Spain. I slept in the riverside and among its forests, living the adventure that taught me how life really is. The adventure ended in the gorgeous little town of Tarifa, by the seaside. And it was here when I felt reborn, maybe its calm and its beauty gave me a break from life, but, everytime I listen to this, I get transported again to this moment, when I heard the ocean waves and the songs of the seagulls. We are so lucky to have pieces of art that have this inmense power of returning us to these moments.
Porco Rosso is not just my favorite Ghibli, it's one of my favorite movies out of all movies out there. I could spend hours talking about the art, about the characters and their growth, their mysteries, their nuances and humor; I could make a full thesis on the significance of planes for Miyazaki and on the relation to politics and how it was greatly mixed with all the poetry and philosophy in the movie; I could say all those things in more details, but I think what I love the most is how honest this movie is. People die, war happen, we are not always heroes and even those which we could consider as such could be seen as pigs and be mysoginists; the ones that you fight against might not actually be bad, some love stories will never happen, and people will come in and out of your life. You won't have all the answers. It won't always be fair. But if you can take five minutes to share a smoke with your ennemy or sleep undrr the stars on the beach... Then you will see that it is still worth it. That life is worth it despite the pain. I love this movie from the bottom of my heart.

This piece makes me think of all the things that happened, be they happy, or sad. Of all the friends I made and all the friends I lost. Of what could've been...
Miyazaki himself claimed that this is the only one of his films that he would want to do a direct sequel to. Porco Rosso is one of his favorites and wanting to do a sequel for it says a lot about him since his films already are all masterpieces.
This whole movie is super relaxing. Even something about the story, Rosso's sarcastic, labored approach to his entire existance... You just gotta kick your shoes back and embrace that for the duration of the movie

Life, life is alot of things, a tale of sorrowful longing, a turbulant hurrian of lothing, or a simple sunny sunday, in what ive found to deal with life it is as follows, remember who you sre, and except your furture self, have the will and drive to adapt and to try, you will feel sad, you will feel angry, and you will feel bothered, that is life, you can either run from it all, or walk though the passiges of time with this knowledge. I can only hope for all out there, that theyll find themselves on a grassy hill with a good glass of tea, a book and food, shall we go about the days once more?
Even though it has been a few months this has left my mind, and faded, leaving behind the bitters of life, time does that to hopeful, compassionate souls, yet life is kindred enough to have us circle back onto our prior self, to remind us of our beginnings, I'll see you around everyone, there's a crowd for everyone
This brings back some hidden memories and feelings from a good time in life with someone. Life is funny and you don't realize how good it was until you look back.
For some reason, every time that I hear this music I am at some bar table, looking at the musicians, drinking some good wine, and thinking about my life and how it would be if I made the right choices. Maybe that's nostalgia, but I'll never know... All I know is that this music makes me feel good and sad.
thought that i was the only one who realized it , my playlist of kiki's delivery service tracks are being taken down too lul. Ghibli's owners be hunting down their copyrighted tracks around yt..........
This song always remind me of bygone days... me as a young boy playing outside with tree breeze and not a worry on my mind... oh i missed those days... those days were the adriatic sea to me.
When we were kids my brother had to have shoulder surgery. During his recovery, to help him cope with his loneliness being away from school and sports, id stay up extra late with him and watch movies. Toonami ran a week long marathon of Miyazaki films when we learned about porco rosso for the first time. Years later I had the privilege of touring Italy, Croatia, and many of the other Adriatic/Mediterranean countries. Amazing how much of that life, landscape, and culture was captured in that film

Just finished watching the movie and bruh it's SO GOOD. I know that Ghibli movies always leave a lingering feeling, but this one.. WOW. I can't even express it in words..just mesmerizing with the music and sentiments
The music of these films are always so buteifal and emersive and make me want to live in world of ghibli theres also this underlying undertone of melancholy but simultaneously being fun and whimsical
This theme is my favorite, it relaxes me so much and leads me to imagine scenarios of deep nostalgia inside me that I didn't even know existed. I love Studio Ghibli 💗❤️
If HOPE could have an anthem, it would be The Bygone Days. This piece alleviates anything in my mind that could be interpreted as potentially negative, it's the ultimate destroyer of fear, hopelessness or desperation. When people claim that no absolute statements can be made about art (or in general), they have never listened to this piece before. I wish I could precisely reconstruct on a big map in my mind how music of this magnitude can be created, truly marvelous and makes you believe in the something cosmically devine (not in a religious sense). How do you people feel listening to this piece? Can you relate?
I HAVE WATCHED ALL THE FILMS :D so imma re watch them again and cry and be in a romantic mood and feel all the emotions in all once again especially porco rosso, he was my favorite movie among howls moving castle and kiki's delivering service

To celebrate my upcoming thesis defence by the end of this november (hopefully), I'd take a note to bring my laptop to some fancy coffee shop someday in town and watch Porco Rosso there as self reward. Hope I can make myself graduate in joy! Good luck to everyone, hold on to those dreams!
Good Luck !!!
How was it? Did you fulfill it?
@@Rosso2959 Hey, thanks for catching up by asking this, sorry for the late reply. Yes, thankfully I've managed to pass the thesis examination in November (by good score too!) and being announced heading for graduation in the same month. By this February 24 the ceremony will be held (still with covid protocol). I'm so happy that such anticipated day is finally approaching; ending my college years and starting to find jobs, I suppose. Thankyou for your comment :)
@@lumeyer1037 Thankyou! I indeed had some good luck :)
@@PerfectlyFreedom Congratulations on graduation!
This piece makes me think of all the things that happened, be they happy, or sad. Of all the friends I made and all the friends I lost. Of what could've been...
it reflects it all its meant to show how when we have time to reflect we see the grand picture
Afternoon wine, espresso, the waves of the Italian coast. Piano in the background. Now that's life.
Miyazaki himself claimed that this is the only one of his films that he would want to do a direct sequel to. Porco Rosso is one of his favorites and wanting to do a sequel for it says a lot about him since his films already are all masterpieces.
Sad that not on this lifetime as Porco OG VA passed away
Ghibli may not find another to replace his voice
Porco Rosso - Red Pig
I would rather be a pig, than fascists...
Comrade Marco we love you 😭✊🏼
This whole movie is super relaxing. Even something about the story, Rosso's sarcastic, labored approach to his entire existance... You just gotta kick your shoes back and embrace that for the duration of the movie
i love this song. porco rosso is a supreme story.
yeah you are right
@@bumblebee7547 it is one of my top 3 hayao miyazaki movies. i met gina actress from english version and said hi. enjoyed movie a lot since college and will return to it soon. i like how the feel and story are. marco was so great and fio too.
@@bumblebee7547 this song and the song madness are great. madness plays during escape from italy with redesigned red plane. the red seaplane looked very hard to manage after getting it back together. i personally like how hayao designs planes and makes them either a pain, or grace to use. the movie and the wind rises connect too well with the line in sky of dead airplanes and pilots. :D
@@bumblebee7547 there was suppose to be sequel, but it never happened. it could if done differently, but not sure.
FENRIR-ART what is your top 2 and top 1 ?
How can this be both sad and joyful?
That's life in a nutshell
Nostalgia is just like that. Both bitter and sweet.
Man, the intro is so good I could listen just to it for hours
“A pig that can’t fly is just a pig”
I was introduced to Ghibli movies with Princess Mononoke - but I will always remember Ghibli for Porco Rosso first and foremost
There's just that one moment, you close your eyes, listen to this song, and imagine you are in some peaceful place, free from the stress...
back in bed, lying with her watching this movie and not really grasping the lesson.
For some reason, every time that I hear this music I am at some bar table, looking at the musicians, drinking some good wine, and thinking about my life and how it would be if I made the right choices. Maybe that's nostalgia, but I'll never know... All I know is that this music makes me feel good and sad.
Can we get an F for the original?
thought that i was the only one who realized it , my playlist of kiki's delivery service tracks are being taken down too lul. Ghibli's owners be hunting down their copyrighted tracks around yt..........
@@fatoduragon5622 Yeah it’s a pain to constantly make maintenance on playlists. Luckily there are tools to help.
I think it's because they finally put the ghibli OSTs on Spotify

No wonder I cant seem to find this song in my fav. I forgot the name of the song and spent a long time finding it .
This song always remind me of bygone days... me as a young boy playing outside with tree breeze and not a worry on my mind... oh i missed those days... those days were the adriatic sea to me.
To think this version of the song isn't even in the film itself but from an anniversary performance is sheer madness.
A lot of the best versions of songs are from concerts instead of the movies tbh
Are you sure, i recently re watched porco rosso during ghibli fest and remember hearing it?
@@logan.-. oh yes it's similar and lingers in the background of the film but it definitely isn't this version
I almost completed military school and we had today a last bbq to celebrate everyone for completing it
After we left its like a group of best buds youll never see again and those 3 years i had to do i feel as if it is all compiled in that song
I understand now why veterans from wars say that they miss those times it was horrible at times but some parts youll cherish the most
Ah my favorite movie. Glad someone posted the song again. The song and honestly the whole movie is like heaven.
One of the most incredible masterpiece of miyazaki
Just finished watching the movie and bruh it's SO GOOD. I know that Ghibli movies always leave a lingering feeling, but this one.. WOW. I can't even express it in words..just mesmerizing with the music and sentiments
This is one of those great scores that makes you reflect on life.
That saxophone solo 🎷
Obrigado camarada está música me ajuda muito sempre.
Studio Ghibli is such a treasure to humanity. I'm not exaggerating!
I remember this when I was kid.
Would watch it non-stop.
This piece always resonated with me but more so now as I am a lot older.
I don´t know why... everytime I hear this song I cry of pure joy, as if it made me revive all the good memories I have with my family and friends...
Porco Rosso is a underrated masterpiece
The music of these films are always so buteifal and emersive and make me want to live in world of ghibli theres also this underlying undertone of melancholy but simultaneously being fun and whimsical
Essa é a melhor cena que o filme não tem
gosh this theme is a whole new level
Gonna be a pilot some day, this song just inspires me, gorgeous
Hell yeah!
goodluck with it
That first part with just the piano playing is one of the most beautiful things I've heard.
The easy beauty of this song takes my breath away. I heard it in a cooking store and Shazamed it and have had it on repeat for two months.
the movie is just as good :)
This theme is my favorite, it relaxes me so much and leads me to imagine scenarios of deep nostalgia inside me that I didn't even know existed. I love Studio Ghibli 💗❤️
One of the greatest anime films ever. It's a shame that not many people know it.
Un méga diplo'. Deux. Deux mégas.

this is one of my favorite songs of all time now. how did I miss this
This film is an example of ghibli genius.
I HAVE WATCHED ALL THE FILMS :D so imma re watch them again and cry and be in a romantic mood and feel all the emotions in all once again especially porco rosso, he was my favorite movie among howls moving castle and kiki's delivering service
This or the wind rises. Miyazaki's love of aircraft is second to none in the movie industry.
I never thought I could be attracted to a pig
PLS SAMEEE 😭
Down bad
Anything Studio Ghibli makes Come to life Makes it seem Cartoonish But also Realistic in some kind of Way it Is what Makes Joe H. & His music So Thrilling and makes every Movie that much better So Anything Becomes Possible I also Am Trying to learn this on piano But its proving Difficult
When the film tagine doesn't lie to it'audiences

I remember there was a UA-cam comment on a similar picture (maybe the same one) a few years ago: "I want to live in this picture.". What a beautiful scene!
Lets be honest, this song leta a tear drop on everyone who listen to it
I recommend also watching this movie with Italian dubs and subtitles, it fits even more.
This movie is so romantic, Thank you Mr. Hayao Miyazaki and Joe Hisaishi.
This song makes me yearn for a time, place and feeling I never experienced.
Some guy: Hah il give you my ps5 when pigs fly HAHAHHAAH

I just watched the move for the third time last night. Speechless. Somehow it makes me miss that summer on the Adriatic too.
飛べない豚はただの豚だ。
- A pig that can't fly is just another pig.
My favourite quote from the movie.
"I'd rather be a pig than a fascist"
For me, Porco Rosso is one of the most beautiful of all Myazaki movies. Politically, Historically, this movie is a masterpiece.
Miyazaki is kinda a hypocrite he thinks the violent Paris commune was good and the civilians marching on Rome was bad
@@magicman3163 if you read your history books, you probably can see that every piece of freedom was taken through violence. It's hyprocrite thinking that the Paris Communa was bad, because the true point is that the communa saved thousands of lives from the bourgeoisie

Porco Rosso was voiced by Jean Reno in French and it was perfect.
I first listen to this song back in the pandemic, 2020.
A lot of things happened from then on, and quickly, I just forgot about this song.
...Until now, I have once again found this masterpiece. The music is just so relaxing yet it seems to be telling something very deep.
Thanks for reading my story :D
Porco Rosso is a master piece and with the best lines i've saw in a Ghibli movie: "i prefer to be a pig than a fascist "
Curtis: "I will tell everyone you're a chicken!"
Porco: "Chicken, pig, what's the difference?! (laughs)"
My depression is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
This sweet melody hits my heart a lot❤
We all know how truly underrated the film is.
This really is a masterpiece of emotive composition. All Ghibli films have a great soundtrack but nothing even touches this with how it transports you to your past.
