As someone who's been married 35 years, I lie to my wife and tell her the 'start time' of an event is an hour earlier because she TAKES FOREVER to get ready. This way I'm never late.
I never care if I am late to an event that my girlfriend wants to go to, unless it's work related. She is the same with me. We just enjoy the pleasure of each other's company because neither one of us are people-persons.
People who are always running late are disrespectful. It’s their way of saying that your time is not valuable. You don’t matter to them. It’s not cute.

You got that right. People who make a habit of being late are just rude and lazy inconsiderate selfish people. They underestimate how much being a responsible person goes a long way when working a real job.
I NEVER liked this show for this very reason. People in the wrong never owning up to their mistakes and even though Ray might have handled it a little wrong, Ray is the one who suffers and Debra never owns up to anything. Nothing funny about this stuff because there's no real resolution and change of character. Just going round and round in manipulation and disrespect. Patricia Heaton has to be a great actress to be able to play this character and not be this way in real life.
A man has to get himself ready. Mom has to juggle bathing kids, getting them dressed, & 100 more things. It was amazing how much faster I got later when it was just me.
Yep. Deb was being selfish in this one. She broke the agreement after shaking on it . Ray should’ve showed some balls on who was wrong here and it wasn’t him. But I guess he caved because he can’t risk a sexless marriage with her since sex is all he cares about LOL🤦🏼♂️
Making people wait alone isn’t an automatic diagnosis of narcissism. The individual also has to exhibit selfishness and manipulation and use people for their own selfish purposes and also play the deflection and the what about game once they’re being accused or confronted about a wrongdoing they committed. But habitually making people wait and being late is included in these traits too. Yes they are
Anyone else see the irony going on here? Amy is trying change Robert in a fundamental way so the two of them can be happier, and he's being seen as unreasonable. Ray is trying to get Debra to modify one of her habits so the two of them can be happier and yet he's seen as being unreasonable. So why is it looked at alright for the woman to be trying to change the guy but not the other way around? As for Frank and Marie, ugh, not even going down that rabbit hole.
You're right that there shouldn't be a double standard, but I think in the storyline the issue is more about how a spouse tries to make that change happen, not whether.
First of all, it's a comedy. I'm not trying to be smart with you, but there's no humor in an orthodox relationship where nothing is skewed. This show in particular goes out of its way to make hypocrisy in lop-sided circumstances funny, so I wouldn't attempt to read too much 'real life' into it. Now, with that out of the way... I have a pretty traditional view of marriage. Forgive me for saying so, but one thing I feel strongly about is that if a man cannot tolerate a woman attempting to improve his character, he should think twice about marriage. Similarly, a discerning man should get to know the difference between a selfish, manipulative woman and one who attempts to refine his character for the sake of family health. Most good wives have minds that are naturally inclined to focus on the marital relationship and the health of the family, and I'm not remotely reluctant to make that stereotype as I've seen enough of them in my lifetime to clearly note this. Now, I certainly would not claim that ALL WOMEN fit this category - there are all kinds of women, just as there are all kinds of men - but it's okay to note patterns in human behaviors and I'm simply calling out an observable characteristic of wives in healthy relationships. So, men and women are not the same. While a wife will naturally affirm the relationship and champion the family with preventative council and maintenance, the male mind is wired for accommodation and provision. Two different roles are going to result in two somewhat (but not entirely) different sets of expectations between the two spouses. It seems to me, then, that each marriage is likely to sometimes make a bit of wiggle room for a so-called double standard. This is my point entirely, and if we see that women and men have different roles in a marriage, then the point requires no further defense. I get it that not all families work in a complementarian way anymore, and many families operate with an equity-based system rather than a role-based model. In those cases, the double standard will present itself as more of a problem, but it doesn't seem to me that Ray and Debra are intended to clearly represent an egalitarian model. In fact, I would wager that Ray and Debra don't actually think much about what kind of marriage they have (role or equity), which could partly explain why they end up in these sorts of conflicts to begin with. In any case, it's safe to say that Ray clearly acted in self-interest in this episode to accommodate his own schedule and to rub Debra's face in her inability to be ready on time. It was not about making her better. It's funny, and I'm actually not going to say whether Ray was right or wrong - but in real life, men communicate hostility to their wives when they do this sort of thing, and the reserve of patience from which wives draw to put up with it is not bottomless. To me, the universal moral question that arises for both men AND women is this: given the strain that both acts of retaliation AND forced change introduce into a relationship, is the issue at hand important enough to attempt it? And are you really changing/teaching them, or are you just punishing them?

It's funny but Debra is wrong. Sometimes late or losing track of time is only natural. But "always something" means you don't value others' time as much as yourself. That's a problem.

All depends on who the spouse is on the inside. I’m a married man myself with 3 kids now, my 3rd was born a month ago. Sure my wife and I have bitter arguments and fights time to time, but in the end we still have that trust and love for each other that makes the marriage work and keeps it strong everyday. We always make up in the end because we don’t our kids to grow up with divorced parents. It’s a saddening traumatizing experience for them, especially since they’re all little still. If the spouse always is willing to understand that marriage is a 2 way street and holds onto those 2 sacred things in marriage very tightly which are trust and love, than being married is an amazing blessing to have and it’s quite rewarding to see all the hard work paid off raising the kids properly and they go on to accomplish big things in being able to go off to college after graduating high school and then work a real great job and be a positive impact around other people in this world. It’s very rewarding from a parents perspective
I hate being late, if I am going somewhere with others, they have 15 minutes past the time of departure or I leave without them. I will not be late because of chronic tardy people. I grew up with a sister who was always late, in our twenties, I told her you know what time we are planning to leave, time management accordingly. I will wait 15 more minutes if you are not ready I will leave without you. My sister has not been late since. Deb knew when they were leaving and she chose to curl her hair on more time, getting her hair stuck, that is all on her, she has no right to be mad when she did it to herself.
Debra was pretty much the worst character on this show and one of the worst tv moms/wives I’ve even seen. This episode along with the one where she’s experiencing pms symptoms are two of the main reasons I disliked her character so much.
@WolfModig Isn't that the true definition of marriage? "The union of two People where one is always right & the other one is the Husband?". 🇦🇺🏴👌👏👍🤭😉😀😃😄😁😆😅😂🤣😭🏴🇦🇺
People like Debra who are always late, is really very selfish and self centred. They don't care if others have to wait or have to reschedule because of them.
The mistake he made was going upstairs for a "talk". He was in the right and should've stood his ground but Debra is a bully and knows how to work him.
Women admit being wrong by bringing up the past or using a personal attack so in reality it's very easy to get them to admit it it's just not in the conventional sense.
To me this was deeper than just being late. Ray actually expresses his frustrations with Debra constantly being late in a healthy way. He explicitly lets her know the work event they are going to is really important to him. I am very anxious like Ray and being late to something you’re nervous about is torture. Debra shouldn’t have even been in the position to have this happen. Makes no sense why she had to wait until the last minute to curl her hair which then got stuck. Because Debra doesn’t respect what Ray does for a living outside the money it brings in so she naturally took her sweet ass time. A wife who truly respects you and your time would be ready to support you for something that is really important to you.
I hear you. I am always early because I don't want to be late. If your early, you are anxious. If you are on time, you are OCD. If you are late, you are disrespectful or hostile. Choose your neurosis.
@ what’s so frustrating is so many people try to cite these dumbass studies showing being late is some kind of neurological thing out of your control. Funny how that goes away immediately when the shoe is on the other foot and the late person has to wait for you. My friends and I sometimes like to meet for lunch as our office buildings are close. One friend was constantly 8-10 minutes late matter how many reminders and confirmations were given. One day we said bro we each have to get back to the office for a meeting by noon so it’s important we leave on time. He was late again and after 5 minutes we Texted here’s the restaurant just meet us there. He was so infuriated we left without him he skipped lunch and didn’t talk to us for a month lol. For some reason calling out late people for being late hits such a nerve lol
@ nah Debra is just a lazy entitled housewife. If you have kids at school all day and still can’t keep the house clean or cook a decent meal it means you aren’t doing anything most of the day.
Ass a empty nester I can say it's not easy to juggle house and kids and Debra had three kids a big house and a over bearing inlaws plus a husband that also wanted to be mothered I don't blame her for sometimes having an attitude, I also think she was in the wrong in this episode.@@slydEvil35

While I understand that Debra wanted to show Raymond what it was like to leave someone waiting, you have to remember that DEBRA AGREED TO THE AIS PLAN. This was the agreement she and her husband made beforehand. And I feel that making Ray wait as part of Debra’s revenge would continue to prove Ray’s point as to why Debra is always late for everything if Debra’s revenge doesn’t succeed in making Ray learn not to leave his wife behind.
In this particular case.....Its better to be a couple, together, thats a little late......Than a happy widow thats alone..... without her "Late" Husband....
Rey screws up a lot. But this time. This time, he's not wrong. They had a deal, they agreed that if she took too long, he could leave her. She did end of story.
If Ray had never discussed with Debra about the AIS plan or if she had not agreed to it, I can understand Debra getting back on Ray for ditching his wife.
How long did it take for Debra to get ready really? Why wait until the last 3 minutes of the time she was expected to be ready to leave at doing her hair? Her hair was fine the way it was. She really broke the agreement here.
which is why i chose to remain single. im always on time for the things i need to be on time for, and i dont have to wait for anyone else. i have zero tolerance for tardiness.
It's a shame Patricia Heaon became so hateful and mean despite being so blessed. It really goes to show you that some people don't deserve squat. Ray Romano on the other hand is having an impressive second act as a dramatic actor. I recently watch No Good Deeds and he's excellent in it. Add that to what he did on Vinyl, The Irishman and you can see he has legit dramatic chops.
Loved the show but I hate this episode. I never watch it when it comes on. I don't agree with Ray leaving her, but Debra promised to be in the car on time. She just had to primp a little more. She owed Ray an apology.
I am so blessed to not have a wife that feels the need to get all dolled up to go anywhere. She's blessed with good skin and natural features- just wash and go. We're usually the ones telling others to be somewhere half an our earlier so they are on time.
@@1x4 not at all. Have you seen the entire series?? Raymond is just like Frank, always expecting services from Debra and taking her for granted. He's just a big baby wanting Debra at his Beck and call. The amount of toxicity they've covered up with humor is sickening at times. Sure Debra isn't perfect. But she could have done way better than Raymond. If there was any character who actually deserved her, it was Robert. Robert was one thing the rest of his family wasn't, he was kind. How did she manage to stand there, even for a few seconds, without laughing.
If mama isn't happy. Debra is a beautiful woman but that look she was giving Ray would melt the candles in the room.
I absolutely hate being late. No excuse for it. I'm a 63 year old lady and I am never late.
Debra was pretty much the worst character on this show and one of the worst tv moms/wives I’ve even seen. This episode along with the one where she’s experiencing pms symptoms are two of the main reasons I disliked her character so much.
Deborah was 100% in the Wrong
@WolfModig Isn't that the true definition of marriage?
"The union of two People where one is always right & the other one is the Husband?".
🇦🇺🏴👌👏👍🤭😉😀😃😄😁😆😅😂🤣😭🏴🇦🇺
Totally Debra’s fault. She was done. Move on. Nope, let’s screw around some more with the hair
Women 101
🎯
Haven't watched this in a few years. Now I remember why I had a massive crush on Debra. She's such a hottie 😍
Debra mad at Ray
When isn’t she?
People like Debra who are always late, is really very selfish and self centred. They don't care if others have to wait or have to reschedule because of them.
The mistake he made was going upstairs for a "talk". He was in the right and should've stood his ground but Debra is a bully and knows how to work him.
I will always like the two parents parents.
Debra was absolutely in the wrong this time.
Good luck getting her to admit that😂
Women admit being wrong by bringing up the past or using a personal attack so in reality it's very easy to get them to admit it it's just not in the conventional sense.
Yep. She actually shook on it and gave him her word she was gonna be ready on time to leave
@@slydEvil35Sounds like he can dish, but can’t take
@ nah Debra is just a lazy entitled housewife.
Good lord what a gorgeous woman she is
I’ve seen a trillion times better looking women
This is hands down my favorite episode of the series.
I don't get what he's in trouble she told him to leave you she's a minute late she didn't need to refix her hair it was already done ready to go!
That was on her
It is so satisfying that Debra gets Ray back by making him wait up for her. 😂
That's what caused the issue in the first place. It's always about her.
Sorry @GuardianKyle you're in the wrong on this one. Ray had every right to leave without Deb. She's so selfish.
@@tombailey837 It was her vindictiveness that caused the hair curler to get stuck. She had time left and wanted
to stick it to ray by being ready on the last second. Then the curler got stock and she was late again something
she promised Ray not to be. She was in the wrong.
I have the guardian symbol as a tattoo. I reboot when necessary.
It ain’t an apology if it ends with a but.
It's not Ray's fault that he left without Debra. She literally takes forever to do her hair and make-up while her hair is stuck.
She got her hair stuck on that thing.
@@redacted2275And that was her own fault. Her hair looked fine, but she just HAD to use that stupid thing.
@@redacted2275 Even before that she was behind the agreed schedule
This whole show is a test for males and you failed.
@@redacted2275 Yeah, and that's Ray's decision to either leave her or don't.
That thumbnail looks like Michael Myers from Halloween killed her. LOL
frank ✝at 1:04 LOL
I'm on Ray's side for a change this time around, however I still find 4:38 🤣
so glad im single..
In this particular case.....Its better to be a couple, together, thats a little late......Than a happy widow thats alone..... without her "Late" Husband....
In this case, Ray was still right.
Not eveyone knows this...the ACTUAL title of this series is: "Everybody Loves Raymond/Everybody Hates Debra".
Just had a great idea - can someone do a mashup of "Everybody Loves Raymond Reddington"?
My ex-wife was forever late, so i stopped telling her about any invitesto things and would go on my own
Frank: Who went to the Stupid boring Opera with you
Me: How are you alive aren’t you supposed to go to the opera to die
Him living her was wrong but I think she was even more in the wrong the way she handled it, she really was a bully at times.
Another reason among a multitude why I’m single
which is why i chose to remain single. im always on time for the things i need to be on time for, and i dont have to wait for anyone else. i have zero tolerance for tardiness.
Yet another example of why I've never married.
Debra's usually ri😅get. Maybe here too
Loved the show but I hate this episode. I never watch it when it comes on. I don't agree with Ray leaving her, but Debra promised to be in the car on time. She just had to primp a little more. She owed Ray an apology.
Roberts gf reminds me of a past relationship. She could not stop herself when trying to "help" me. Watching this triggered me . I need ice cream.
I was married, my then wife could be late if I was not ready I got in trouble…never understood why?
Ray should have left Debra for Phoebe
I give my wife an out the door time. She's ready by that time or I'm "out the door".
I world leave my spouse but I’m All fairness she agreed to it. Just had to milk it till the bitter end . She loves to control
We do have one couple in the family that we constanly have to tell that wvents are and 1 hr earlier so they will be somewhat on time
They had an agreement, so I'm with Ray
So am I. She even shook on it
Raymond has a death wish to come
Reason number 47 why I am glad I am not married.
Ray is a whiny little baby here.
She's busy taking care of everything
Her hair.
I am so blessed to not have a wife that feels the need to get all dolled up to go anywhere. She's blessed with good skin and natural features- just wash and go. We're usually the ones telling others to be somewhere half an our earlier so they are on time.
I only clicked because Patricia Heaton is 6 kinds of smokeshow.
Raymond never deserved her...
She is ungrateful.
@darthbedlammasterofdueling4519 he is undeserving
Visa versa
@@1x4 not at all. Have you seen the entire series?? Raymond is just like Frank, always expecting services from Debra and taking her for granted. He never helps around the house and is always finding ways to stay away from his family. He takes Debra for and never appreciates how lucky he got by finding her.
He was thoughtful and appreciative. And most of all, he was much more involved with Raymond's children than Raymond ever bothered to be.
Many times, Raymond just sucked. This was one those times. That whiny selfish baby
Debra was such a hottie.
I have to lie to men all the time about the time so they'll be on time
