The panasonic silent hair dryer is also very good for using on pets! Most hair dryers are so noisy that cats will just struggle to run away, the very moment you turn them on to dry them!

This is awesome thank you. For the past few days I was blow drying my hair and wondering to myself if hair drying can cause hearing loss, and to my surprise it can. So I started looking for low noise hair dryers and found this video. Appreciate all the time you put into this!

This is great info. Thank you for the decibel testing! Just curious: why the 3ft distance for the test? I wonder just how loud the dryers get at close range (one holds it very close to the ears during use, after all). Thanks!

      Thanks for your kind comment!
I chose 3 ft because standard practice is to measure the noise from the source 1 meter away. So I rounded that to 3 ft.

Every time you halve the distance, you add about 6 dB. One thing we should keep in mind is that we should take into account loud noises exposed prior to using the hairdryer.

When measuring the noise level why do you measure at 1m? Because that is the spec. standard. You SHOULD measure at dB at 100mm, ie. where it is when you're using it...... I don't hold my arm out at 1m when drying hair.... None the less thank you for going to the effort to produce this video.

At your distance it will be 20dB louder than where he measured. Doesn't really matter where he measures as long as he's consistent.
