what is the point of analyzing the private theological opinion of an unknown author who lived 20 centuries ago?

The point is that as Jason pointed out the scriptures were written by men inspired by God. We are not studying what an unknown author thought but what God has to say through him. We can also see as Jason shows there is agreement with other Authors of scripture have heard from God. Also this was not a private opinion but a public opinion published in a letter and then in the Bible. I hope you will continue to follow these studies.
