I am not sure of course. But let us say that it is a bit too easy (!) to find abwehrmechanismen in Amerika. Or? Thus Kafka MAY have played with these mechanisms? Kafka knew his Freud. -- And the reason why? That is of course a complex question.
Hi Kaj, I think that Kafka is not light - hearted enough to play. Although the abwerhrmechanismen are easyly to find - if you are aware of them - they are not generelly in the focus. Many people see in Karl Rossmann just a shy and naiv person.

Hi Nicola! The important thing is - maybe... - that Kafka was pulling Freud´s leg. Or?
I don't think so, why should he? I suppose that Kafka didn`t intend to illustrate Freuds Theorie. The theorie just helps to understand the novell.
