I reached the confession by looking for "present" after it being mentioned multiple times. Was a really cool moment

I can't believe I only just got recommended this video. I played Her Story a few year back and this was the analysis of it I never knew I needed! Great work

Wow, your search history @39:15 was extremely close to mine
Also: How does a video this well done only have 3k views on a 500 subscriber channel? That's the real crime that needs to be investigated here.

i really went crazy about "them" being right or left handed. that would explain the guitar playing and her holding her arms/hands constantly

Before I begin, I will say that I meticulously kept track of the search terms I used, which is how I was able to reconstruct how I played.
I actually found the clip where the woman introduces herself as Hannah fairly early because I chose to look for MIRROR early on, as my tenth search (my previous search was GLASS, from Simon's job). (This followed a string of dead ends or one-offs; the only two searches that gave me any new clips between my second search [SIMON] and my ninth search [GLASS] were HELEN and ARGUE, which got only one new clip each, and while HELEN led to ARGUE, the latter didn't really lead to anything. I did try ARGUMENT later, as my fourteenth search.)
First clip from MIRROR was her giving her name as Hannah. So, I put down HANNAH in my queue of search terms to try (there got to be so many potential search terms I had to queue them up so I would remember to get to them all). Search #13, I searched for HANNAH, and got three clips of her calling herself Hannah... and two clips of the woman referring to Hannah as another person, including D722. So the idea that there was a twin switch plot happening here came pretty early on for me, and EVE was pretty quickly searched for as well (search #18). I got the broad strokes of the plot after that point fairly quickly, though I always wanted to dig for more details.
Clip D767 for me was accessed through the word PRESENT, as in Hannah's birthday present. This was search #56 for me, and by this point I had already found quite a lot about Eve's own story. I'd also accessed Clip D768 prior to this (via WATCH--search #22, so not long after I'd confirmed who Eve was), where the twins clean up after the murder and plot what to do next--and from the context I'd already gleaned that Hannah had killed Simon, but didn't know how or (precisely) why.
I'd searched so effectively that I'd gleaned most of the important parts of the story before I'd seen even half the clips.
I agree that there were some suspicious deaths surrounding Eve. Florence. Her birth parents. And, perhaps... even Hannah herself. We're not told what happened to Hannah, but Eve's statement "My sister is gone. And she isn't coming back." might mean she's at large... or it might mean she's dead. We'll never know if Eve was involved in any of these deaths or not.

Excellent work. I wondered about how players might move from search to search and how different searches would lead them down different paths, so I’m glad to see it laid out so clearly.

Something ironic about this game is that it started with the sisters being unable to live without thinking that they were one person and then their conflict was that they both felt that the other was stealing their identity because they were both competing to be the "protagonist" of their shared life but at the same time they couldn't get rid of that need to both live the same life (Honestly, if it weren't for the test of different fingerprints, I would also vote for the multiple personality theory).
Only being discovered because in the end they are both two different people, who even look the same, just with a few interviews, they could immediately see that there were 2 and not 1.
By the way, I loved the video, I will definitely follow you

Wow, this is a phenomenal analysis! When I played it I did get the solid gist of what was actually the case in the game, but you pulled apart so many nuances and mechanisms that made me really appreciate the game significantly more. I am actually somewhat in awe.

terrific video and analysis, found your channel through your Obra Dinn playthrough (which was excellent, too) - criminally underviewed, keep up the great work and know it's appreciated! The numbers will come eventually!

I’ve had this game on my iPad for years. I played the demo for Telling Lies years ago at PAX and thought it was cool because I’ve always liked FMV games. The people at the demo booth asked me if I played Her Story so I downloaded it but like many games I never got around to playing it. Today I felt the urge to play Telling Lies but wanted to know what happened in Her Story so I watched someone’s play through it then the algorithm recommended me your video. Excellent analysis. You should have way more subscribers and views.
Also much respect for no longer playing any games that show the police and the positive light. I feel you on that one. I’m looking forward to you eventually making a video on Telling Lies.

I"m actually working on a video right now on Barlow's 2022 game Immortality! Hoping for a summer release date. We'll see if I ever get back to a full analysis of Telling Lies. In any case, thank you for the kind words!

I know little to nothing about "Telling Lies" but if the subject is on an actually relevant topic like that i think ill give it a play. Excellent video dude, you earned my sub for sure.

Hey Ian, glad to see you're healthy during these difficult times. I sound like a broken record, but amazing video as usual, you're extremely overlooked and underrated when it comes to this type of analysis, I know it's just a hobby for you but the sheer quality you put into these is admirable. Looking forward to your Obra Dinn breakdown. Also, stay safe out there.
P.S.: I imagine that the transcript must have taken a long time to write down. You could probably add it to GameFAQs, doesn't seem like there's any already uploaded there.

You can tell this was written by a young person because nobody Said STI in that era is STD, STI was brought about to give less stigma to Std's. Way too many 304

The script is actually accurate in that regard! She refers to it as an STD. The change of language in the summary is my own.

It's so funny how long it took players to find out Hannah's name. After 'Murder' and 'Simon' I searched for 'name' and got Hannah right away.
