2 of my most favourite and idolized artists... He's splendid as usual and she's so beautiful... Bless her for the baby in her womb... If you sing as i am, you would not say anything unpleasant to this performance. Try being in their shoes and you'll know... They are just wonderfull!!!!
I just listen to her rendition with Villazon and I thought, "I like him! He's very on time with the music and can enunciate his words!" Then I clicked on this video and heard Andre start to sing, and while I still like Villazon, Andre just has such a smooth and romantic and lively voice, no doubt he performs the song better! I'll always love him!
Милые мои любимые певцы будьте здоровы и жизнерадостны на долгие долгие годы,чтобы и мы радовались вами ,вашим прекрасным голосами, спосибо вам огромное что вы есть
Agreed. People used to criticize Netrebko all the time, saying that it was her beauty, not her talent that got her to the met. Now, that she has put on a little weight, they are criticizing her for that. All I hear is her beautiful instrument.
I agree with you completly, if you don't like don't listern! I would say in our hearts Andrea can do no wrong ever!!!!!! Please sing to us for ever Andrea we adore you.
I don't really understand why people say things like this. Anna Netrebko is AMAZING, Maria Callas was AMAZING. They're both amazing. Why does one have to be better than the other?
The title of the piece is 'Libiamo ne' lieti calici'. The style is 'brindisi' since one or two characters introduce the solo melody and the full ensemble later join in the refrain.
I don't think anyone is saying that he is a bad singer. In fact, he is an excellent singer, with an amazing voice. What people are critiquing here is his choice to try to sing an opera song and failing at that task. That does not in any way mean that he is a bad singer. Not everyone is suited for opera and he happens to be someone that isn't.
it wasn't a good day for andrea, but I still love him, he sings wonderfully, and this things are things taht always happens in the scenary. Anna Netrebko, her voice it a little heavy, but I like it, even I love it, cause she's a good singer and Andrea bocelli too (all my respect). I now how difficult is, because I'm a singer too.
So you're saying one of the most highly regarded singers in the world, the biggest-selling singer in the history of Classical music, accompanying Anna to one of the most popular Brindisi's in one of the most famous Italian operas, didn't know his lines? And he was intimidated by her? The man has completed eight full operas. Criticize his work and performances all you'd like, but youre simply barking up the wrong tree. No one criticizes him for now knowing lines or being intimidated by anyone.
Gosh, Anna Netrebko is so beautiful and talented. She totally out-sings Bocelli...actually, she out-sings every other singer who participated in this even this year. I mean, Sarah Brightman was a joke.
I'm not saying that these singers are going to influence current opera fans. In saying that they are giving opera a bad name, I just mean that most of their fans think crossover singers are opera singers and good ones too. I think Ernman has had classical training. Have you listened to her queen of the night recording? She sings in proper operatic head voice. Not sure that I agree about Brightman, but I do think that she makes a great broadway and crossover singer.
I will opologise to Anna Netrobko and her fans for the comment I made about her. She is very good at what she does and has a beautiful rich voice. Just because I don't like opera and have been riled by some of the more brainless purists is not a sound reason for attacking her personally.
Awesome!! He sounds much better with this lady than with Brightman. Isn't this the exact same theater where he sang Canto Della Terra with Sarah Brightman? I recognize the same orchestra and choir as well.
@galept You are aware that there are other tenors out there aren't you and that just because someone doesn't like Bocelli doesn't mean one compares everyone to Pavarotti? A little fact check: opera theaters where Pavarotti used to perform are still open, there are tenors who perform leading roles in these top opera theaters and Bocelli isn't invited to sing roles in these top opera theaters. Ever heard the names of Beczala, Kaufmann, Florez, Vargas?
@Shelbourner "Brindisi" is NOT a style, there is no such thing as "brindisi" style. Il Brindisi is a Toast in Italian, the invitation to drink to something or someone. This is from opera La Traviata by Giuseppe Verdi. In the beginning of La Traviata, there is a party at the house of courtesan Violetta Valeri. The guests demand the toast, Il Brindisi. One of the guests, Alfredo agrees. He starts it, Violetta answers, the guests join in. Listen to the start of opera La Traviata.
Oh, I absolutely agree! Opera is an art form that requires perfection and 100% accuracy in every sense. I actually hate it when crossover singers sing arias. It's very much like someone scraping their nails over a chalkboard to me. When crossover singers sing with opera singers, it's even worse, but most crossover fans don't have a discerning ear. They literally can't hear the difference between the two voices. It gives opera a bad name when crossover singers sing classical repertoire.
I actually like Bocelli's version a lot more than other people here, andactually prefer this to what a lot of what people would call a "pure opera singer" (whatever that means, it's a stereotype more than a definition). different style yes- But the people who think Brightman's and Bocelli's are bad singers, however, don't have a clue what they are talking about.
cont. from below ...Nor is Bocelli fantastic at being an exciting and cheerful "drinker" as you'd expect in a good portrayal of this work, but he has a fantastic voice, even if "softer" and more pleasant to the ear than the likes of Kaufmann, Beczala, etc. So far, I have not seen any real criticism of Bocelli in this video aside from it "not being opera," and he certainly sounded great to me. Many opera fans are pretentious or snobby, and don't actually know what they are talking about
There's an old saying , those that do , do and those that can't talk/critique those that can do ! Andrea atctacts the best musicians and orchestras ,this blind man has by hard work brought much joy to the world . Self appointed experts know the price of everything and the value of nothing , nowhere more evident in commenting about music.
As a huge bocelli fan, I do agree with you. I think after cross over to pop, I think his voice lost that lovely operatic tone which he still has, but it isn't the same.
@cmc0605 You sound like you just find out that 80% of opera fans like opera because 90% of other people don't like it at all. Bocelli is amazing singer, from what I've heard from the world leading conductors (always better to listen to them, then to critics) and Pavarotti with Corelli has amazing technique (3 octave, full control on any note from forte to pianisimo) very beautiful color. For me closest equivalent for his voice is Chopin played by Horowitz or Shpilman.
2 of my most favourite and idolized artists... He's splendid as usual and she's so beautiful... Bless her for the baby in her womb... If you sing as i am, you would not say anything unpleasant to this performance. Try being in their shoes and you'll know... They are just wonderfull!!!!

Andrea is amazing, as always, I love his voice.
wow. hearing bocelli and then netrebko sing is like night and day. Wasn't sure if I was listening to opera until she started singing.
I was in the audience for this. Fantastic night!
+destiny2909 So where did this concert happen at?
The Royal Albert Hall in London. I wanna say 2008? Maybe '07
How lucky!
Anna here has unquestionable beauty and voice, if Bocelli could have seen her she would have taken his breath away.
By far the best world duet. Our girl!

I just listen to her rendition with Villazon and I thought, "I like him! He's very on time with the music and can enunciate his words!" I love Andrea Bocelli and Anna Netrebko , and I don't care if he sing opera or not, my ear is greatfull because their voices sing together
I don't really understand why people say things like this. Anna Netrebko is AMAZING, Maria Callas was AMAZING. They're both amazing. Why does one have to be better than the other?

Ana Netrebko is such and an amazing singer , and wonderful woman ...she is absolutely gorgeous .

how very wonderful this is.
Just to clarify - no argument - this was not a performance of La Traviata, only a small scene from La Traviata.

Wow what a great duet
nádhernáá písnička,miluju Bocelliho...!!♥♥♥

Nobody and I mean nobody sings this better than Nuccia Focile with Bocelli and none will, ever either.
She sings as well as she LOOKS!
Andrea is currently preforming the opera "Carmen" as Don Jose in Roma, think that says it all.
.....Grandioso, Che spettacolo!
Анна Нетребко прекрасна , как её Голос . А Голос прекрасен как Анна Нетребко !!!

She's a professionist and a great singer, he's an imitator of opera singers, very funny!
Bravissimos!!! Bello Dueto !!!

Andrea studied singing under the maestro Bettarini until Bettarini's death in 1997 at the age of 83 and also with the tenor Franco Corelli
Anna Netrebko is far from being one of the greatest sopranos, but has become better.
This was my sister's dream come true
He has lessons every day
CLASSIEST.
DRINKING SONG.
EVER!
Cheers! :D
And so does Netrebko (even when she's not pregnant).
I like this video for Anna only
God bless you to you too.
