    Hi Matt and Lovie, my sister and I recently lost our wonderful brother ( who wanted to meet you all by the way... He loved your natural vibes). Thank you for giving us an eddoes planting project. We find walking ( not as strenuous as your) and doing creative things help us through this grieving process. THANK YOU ☺️

    Good afternoon. I am enjoying the video. The leaf is used to make stew. It is very rich in iron. It has to be chopped finely and fried on low heat then simmered in coconut milk for about 15 to 20 minutes. Its very tasty. The leaves are very costly in the supermarket.

      Lol yes ,baby eddoes seedlings. With potatoes they call them "seed potato" so I assume it's the same for eddoes. Thanks for the love and support!

    Nice harvest, another way you can cook it is boiled and then fried with onions, garlic, scotch bonnet peppers. My grandma use to some add salt fish. Love your adventures 😍

    Excellent produce👍. We here all the way from Rio Claro plant it in the ground as most people from the country side do. You all could probably try other provisions am sure it will produce nicely!

    • @adventureswithloviematt
      @adventureswithloviematt  2 роки тому +1

      Thankyou for the support!. Yes I know people in the country plant it in the ground. I would too don't get me wrong but the native soil here is real trash and full of stones. We got the idea of container gardening from youtube videos. Yes we can try other provisions.

    You will itch very badly in the mouth if eaten raw. It is also advisable to wear latex gloves while handling the leaves as they are itchy with their saps on the back of the palms especially. You can harvest the young leaves for cooking, but remember that once you remove the leaves, you are actually reducing the "cooking" abilities of the kitchen of the plants as the leaves are responsible for manufacturing food for the whole plant. You can balance it and not be too greedy on the leaves, or else you have few developed corms (Edo). Thanks.

    Make some more holes in the bucket. The soil is holding to much moisture..

    • @adventureswithloviematt
      @adventureswithloviematt  2 роки тому

      Ya think? Bucket has some big 🕳 holes already. Eddoes like water and it drains well. I think it should be fine. Thanks for looking out though!

      when the leaves get big and start to yellow and die out you harvest, usually 7-8 months after planting

    I do wish people would not call Malanga, Taro, or Edo - Elephant ear. Elephant ear is the common name for a related (non-edible) cousin of this plant. If you purchase an elephant ear plant from ANY store- it is NOT edible.

    Something is defenitely wrong with your soil type. Edoes never take that long. Next time try top soil and manure: goat, or cow. But your potting mix is not for edoes. A few months and they should be mature; try the top soil and manure

    • @adventureswithloviematt
      @adventureswithloviematt  Рік тому

      You must be have superior soil lol check online for how long they should take and see what comes up.
