  • LEE SELBY AND ANDREW SELBY TELL US ALL ABOUT HOW THEY GOT INVOLVED IN BOXING AND WHAT THEY HAVE ACHIEVED IN THE SPORT.
    Early boxing career
Selby begun his professional career on 12 July 2008 with a win over Sid Razak at the Newport Leisure Center in Wales. He compiled a record of four straight wins before losing for the first time in his career to Samir Mouneimne at the Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke on 29 May 2009.[1] Selby won his next three fights before beating Dai Davies for the Welsh Area title on 30 October 2010 claiming the belt with a 2nd round knockout. On 30 July 2011 he met Scotsman James Ancliff for the Celtic featherweight title and claimed the belt with a 6th round stoppage.
    British ChampioN.
On 17 September 2011 Selby claimed the British and Commonwealth titles with a win over then champion Stephen Smith via 8th round stoppage at the Olympia in Liverpool.[1] Despite being the underdog going into the fight Selby took control of the center of the ring and caught Smith with a left hand in the 8th round, a punch from which Smith was unable to recover. Selby said after the fight that the win "feels like I've won a world title" adding "It's something that I have been dreaming about since I was a kid. It's a big achievement and not a lot of people have done it.
On 20 April 2013 Selby dismantled the former unbeaten Australian champion Corey McConnell. McConell's corner threw in the towel in the fifth round.
    WBC International Championship[edit]
    Selby vs. Simion
On 13 July 2013, Lee Selby took another step towards a world title shot when he faced in Hull the unbeaten Romanian boxer and ranked at fourth by the WBC, Viorel Simion, and won the WBC International featherweight title with a unanimous decision victory. According to some prominent boxing writers, the British rising star passed the toughest test of his career in a very close fight.
    Professional boxing record.
    2012 London Olympics.
Selby's #1 ranking by AIBA meant he was seeded and was given a bye through the first round of the Olympic tournament. His first bout came against Ilyas Suliemenov of Kazakhstan, a stiff test for the Welshman, but one that he passed with relative ease, prevailing 19:15. In the quarterfinal Selby was pitted against the exciting young Cuban Robeisy Ramirez Carranza. He fell short to the eventual gold medalist 16:11, preventing Selby from earning at least a bronze medal.
    WSB
Selby competed in the 2012-13 World Series of Boxing season, representing the British Lionhearts. He boxed six times during his debut season in the WSB, remaining unbeaten throughout.
His first contest of the tournament was a home tie against Daniele Limone of the Dolce & Gabbana Italia Thunder at Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, Wales. Selby outclassed the professional Italian and won every round on all three judges' score-cards.

They both deserve the best. I believe they will both get to the very top. Typical welsh boys, humble and respectful but full of inner confidence and as tough as the mexicans

Andrew stay amateur for Rio, think about the bikinis on the beach! Greatest British fighter is Welsh, Jimmy "the ghost with a hammer in his hand" Wilde. Wales have always had great fighters, ps I'm English
