It's a memorable sequence and a kick to watch, but I'm not convinced Hitchcock didn't want Dali for publicity purposes. Hitchcock was very canny about publicity (let's not forget his demand that theater owners allow no one into any *Psycho!* showing once the movie had started). That said, I do appreciate his insistence in this piece that our dreams seem sharp and real and not "dark and fuzzy". Though I've always thought it peculiar that dreams are so vivid when they're also so forgettable.
thank u for this! i love this movie and especially the dream sequence! this was such a treat to watch! i love hearing how hitchcock made his movies, or just him giving us an incite on his movies! thank u again 4 this! i never saw it before!
Mr Hitchcock, in Spellbound seeking artistic coop from great Dali, in 1945 era of emptiness in social life and order due to world war two ongoing as filmmaking and cinema art became a tool of conflict and war mongering, Hitchcock as a great director in Hollywood, and Dali as a progressive surealist painter from war torn span brought new light of why human dreams are shattered by human societies short comings, on due time effecting all.
