Hello I am actually one of the business owners of the Comanche Pitstop in Wilmore Ks. I have been watching your videos for sometime. You help tremendously with showing people how much pride we have in our little towns. Also my folks have the land where Nescatunga sits there are still foundations and we have a map of what the town used to look like. The cemetery is still there fenced off for preservation. Thank you so much for your videos from everyone in these small communities.
Oh wow that’s awesome! So glad my video found its way to you. What a great town to visit! Glad the cemetery is being preserved. Thank you very much for watching!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy Don't know the range of your drone but on Google Earth it looked like the cemetery was about half mile off the road. It appears as a grassy square from above, definitely not a good road for any but 4x4s

I honestly don't think anyone would ever know about places like Comanche county if it wasn't for videos like this. I've always been partial to smaller populated areas.

My family lived in Comanche County for decades. A few are still there, most are buried in Coldwater's Cemetery. My Grandparents ran the Comanche Restaurant/motel and the Branding Iron Restaurant/motel in Coldwater. My grandma also ran the Ranch house Restaurant in Wilmore. I worked in all of them. Another great video Wiseguy. I have always wanted to take HWY 160 from Wellington, KS to Trinidad, CO. I remember when I was a kid you would see billboards in southern Kansas advertising HWY 160 as the shortcut to the Rockies.
Once upon a time, our family lived in Wilmore, in the house that is next to the carrousel! My aunt and uncle lived in the house that was in the spot the carrousel now sits. My grandfather was born in a log cabin that still stands & is well preserved on what was the Estill Ranch East of Coldwater (part of the Commache County cattle Pool that was mentioned under the town of Evansville). The southeast part of the county has some dramatic gyp hills & the scenery is like no place I've ever seen, with long winding roads and few intersections. Another interesting fact about the county is that the Rockefellers had a ranch there, maybe still do. Kansas state highway #1, the first paved highway in the state, runs north and south through Coldwater. My dad, as a teenager, was part of the 4-man crew that loaded sand into dumptrucks by hand. Hmmm, maybe the Rockefellers had something to do with the development & use of asphalt to pave roads....
Beautiful countryside! I'm always fascinated by the old barns, etc and wonder why they were left to fall down. I've seen houses out in the country around where I live that have been deserted and left to fall down. Definitely a curiosity. TFS
I noticed on your drone shots of Wilmore that the restaurant we ate at in the 90s, the building is gone. I checked my 2014 vlog and it was still there, across from the grain elevator. It was family run, with excellent food. Also in Wilmore is/was a Sears house, one sold by Sears Roebuck. The pieces came by rail, and were assembled on site. My brother and I were on patrol, and I got all excited when I noticed the house. He looked at me quizzically, until I explained it. I couldn't find it on my 2014 visit. We had plans to return on my May Extravaganza '23, but I got sick and we had to cut a week off the trip. I'll be disappointed about that for a long time. As always...
The house next to the carousel is the Sears house. It is owned by the couple that installed the carousel. And they removed the old vinyl siding and repainted it. The ranch house (restaurant) was demolished a few years ago as it was damaged and rotting.
Wiseguy, I believe that you already know this but you viewers may not, If anyone plans to visit any of these places out west, the rainy season is the best time, Those back roads stir up a lot of dust as you travel on them if they are not a little water down. and that makes it a little harder to see the landscape. 👴
I talked about this in the Q&A I did a few videos ago. Often people don’t want to be on camera. And in this case I didn’t see a single person the entire time. Hard to interview those haha! But I do have locals in other videos sometimes.

@@TravelwithaWiseguy my Pleasure! Love your videos. It's great to have so many to pick from whenever I have time to watch.
Beautiful countryside! I'm always fascinated by the old barns, etc and wonder why they were left to fall down. I've seen houses out in the country around where I live that have been deserted and left to fall down. Definitely a curiosity. TFS
Sad and beautiful at the same time!
Wow that’s very interesting! Hopefully you can make a return trip another time - great tiny town! Thanks again! Hope all is well!
The house next to the carousel is the Sears house. It is owned by the couple that installed the carousel. And they removed the old vinyl siding and repainted it. The ranch house (restaurant) was demolished a few years ago as it was damaged and rotting.
@@runawayplanet8814 Thank you for this info, I appreciate it
I’m from Wichita born raised. Live in o.c. Ca 37 yrs
You got lucky with that water! Don't drown!!!
Haha I was being cautious!!
@@TravelwithaWiseguy Low water crossings that are wet or flowing make my heart pound
Nothing like the summertime to bring out the best in farmland. Have thought of using a metal detector on your travels?
I haven’t. I’m more into just exploring and observing!
The land reminds me of Iowa.
Wiseguy, I believe that you already know this but you viewers may not, If anyone plans to visit any of these places out west, the rainy season is the best time, Those back roads stir up a lot of dust as you travel on them if they are not a little water down. and that makes it a little harder to see the landscape. 👴
For sure! Except if it’s been rainy make sure to have a good vehicle!
wonder how many of these are tornado ghost towns
Man your 'out' there.
😎
More people in the cemetery than living in the town? Yikes 😮
Unfortunately!
Naa…you don’t want to go traipsing through someone’s cow pasture!🤪
Only to find a forgotten town 😂
Its to bad you dont talk to people in these areas your stories would be so much better with a little local input
I talked about this in the Q&A I did a few videos ago. Often people don’t want to be on camera. And in this case I didn’t see a single person the entire time. Hard to interview those haha! But I do have locals in other videos sometimes.
I dig it. Pretty country.
