    Anytime my blues guitar playing starts feeling lifeless or I feel I’m overplaying I go back and listen to Albert Collins for a few days.

    • @moreorlesslikeso
      @moreorlesslikeso 5 років тому +10

      Yeah, absolutely. I guess overplaying is a major trap you find yourself falling into more often than you (should) like once you've reached a certain level of dexterity on the fretboard... Going back and listening to the masters like Albert Collins will teach any sensible blues guitarist that the number of notes you play is definitely NOT what it's all about.

    Biggest takeaway: At the time of this video its clear that his Telecaster had essentially became an extension of Mr. Collins himself; he didn't need to put any thought into it whatsoever, except when he had to explain it to an outsider. Something for me to work on, thanks for posting.

    I discovered Albert through my brother in the late 1980s when I was first starting to get into blues music. 'Cold Snap' is his best album.
    I saw him in Jacksonville Florida in the mid 1990's. During one song, he walked all the way back to the lobby area, followed by a small crowd, including me, clapping in time, and he was shaking people's hands with one hand while playing with the other. His whole hand was calloused from all the playing.😅
    A much cherished memory!!!
    Even when playing as a co- guest with other artists, his unique sound was instantly recognizable.

      Stevie ray Vaughan is the biggest imitation of albert king and albert collins i love stevie but even he would admit albert was his favorite guitarist makes sense why he sounds like both... but r.i.p stevie he was a force too be reckoned with for sure love stevie.. theres other guitarist you hear in stevies playing such as lonnie mack and his brother jimmy and jimmy hendrix obviously he is a product of his own environment so naturally he sounds like most and several native texas guitar players..
