    Noticing is the closest thing to a technique that any of us will ever find while walking the Non-dual path - little by little the Unskillful Patterns that you speak of simply lose interest in us: we don't give them up, rather, THEY GIVE US UP ~ ! Thank You as always Mr. Fred ~ !!! 😆💜🙌 ~ !!!

      Check and see if there is only "we," or if there is only "I". Then check to see if there's really an "I" there.

    I AM is not all that it is cracked up to be. What is prior to I AM is the meat and potatoes.
    That is a concept that is fascinating. It is an idea that is sort of beyond our capacity to understand directly but can be glimpsed in our peripheral vision. I AM is not really what i am. What I am really is prior to I AM. Whew! It is like an insect trying to imagine what it might be like on the moon. Thank you Fred

    Thanks, Fred. Nonjudgmental noticing - that's the key. The witness does not take the patterns personally, which makes it easier to fine tune them.

    Everywhere I look, I'm the center --- I mean obviously I'm the center, I don't know why you cant see I'm the center, because clearly I am... & you're just furniture for the center ----

    While the preparatory discussion is still good, Fred responds directly to the title at 31:25.
    Is noticing unskillful patterns sufficient? Chogyam Trungpa died from alcoholism, and Shinzen Young mentioned in a UA-cam video that after awakening he still needed a therapist to help with his procrastination. Jeffery Martin reports that people with PNSE still go to jail and get divorced occasionally, but one might argue that PNSE and awakening are different things. Fred, do you think these people weren't noticing enough, or do you think there was something else going on that prevented them from abandoning unskillful patterns?

    • @FredDavisNonduality
      @FredDavisNonduality  5 років тому +1

      "Unskillful" (that's personal commentary on God's handiwork) patterns will decrease of fade if they do. If they don't, you're hung with them. Secondarily, it seems to be very helpful if there is a genuine desire to be other than the way you are.
      Awakening is not a panacea. If it feels like your unit could benefit from psychotherapy, go get psychotherapy. The same goes for legal, medical, financial and every other kind of advice or help. Give unto the unit what is the unit's: a relative fix if there's something available and you feel drawn to it.
      Also, ALL OF US should have Shunryu Suzuki-Roshi's brand of procrastination. Have you noticed what that "lazy" guy accomplished??? lol

      @@FredDavisNonduality Okay, makes sense.
      I agree that Young is very productive. As I recall he reported that the therapy was successful and he became much more productive afterwards. So I think we are talking about different parts of his life.

    Thanks a lot for this. One of my first awakenings was 10+ years ago and I’ve had a hard time expressing what the realization I had was and this almost on the spot nailed it. When I told the people I was with at the time about the realization they all laughed at me and told me I sounded dumb (and I laughed too).

  • @youarewhatyourelookingfor4496

    25:45 yep 😂🤣😂
    I want the dream to surrender to selfs patterns.
    There have been several awakening experiences which typically if not always included hysterical laughter however there is still chronic attachment to the mind, it’s contents and all the emotions that go along with it.
    I’m wide asleep mostly walking around feeling this way and that, typically depressed and anxious.
    Intellectually I totally get it, experientially not so much.
    I give up 😂🤣😂 which paradoxically is the best thing to do I hear. 😋😜🤪

    • @FredDavisNonduality
      @FredDavisNonduality  Рік тому +1

      Laughter is a good sign - yes giving up is what seems to happen - yet there is no one who could give up or not give up - these are both ideas and thoughts appearing inside of this - awakening experiences happen - they just don't happen to anyone - in fact an awakening could be said to be "oneness having a character free moment" which the ego soon claims as "something that happened to me" that I have now lost and need to find again - playing the game of eternal hide and seek - would recommend investigating an awakening session or join onto the next Skillful Means Series

    • @youarewhatyourelookingfor4496
      @youarewhatyourelookingfor4496 Рік тому

      @@FredDavisNonduality hahaha! Yes indeed. That’s all extraordinarily familiar sounding and indeed quite correct.
      I’ve watched the ego snatch up experiences and claim them. It’s so fast that it’s baffling really.
      One day during one of them the very second ego saw what was happening and reached for it it disappeared.
      “I” then watched the disappointment and subsequent seeking begin again. That was several years ago, but it was a memorable moment.
      I’d love to have a session with you Nr Fred but I’m just a poor boy from a poor family. 😋
      Maybe once I’m back to work.

    Fred can you help me understand the pattern of like nature for instance. Take Australia being on fire. There are a lot of people who are aware that they are awareness and that awareness is aware of the fires. But why doesn't awareness stop the fires? There are spontaneous miracles in healing when awareness wakes up but why not help the people and animals when it is aware? I hope that was a clear question. Thank you Fred. Much love to you.

    • @FredDavisNonduality
      @FredDavisNonduality  5 років тому +1

      There is the APPEARANCE of cause and effect within the dream of relativity. More deeply, everything is affecting everything all the time, so there is nothing separate to be a cause or an affect. There's just This As It Is.
      Yet more deeply, This As It Is is an APPEARANCE, and thus:
      THERE IS ONLY.

      I think he said "minor compared to a check in the bank". He was categorizing the types of self-centeredness, saying that wanting to be perceived as a good person is a form of self centeredness that is minor compared to the form of self centeredness where one is motivated by money.
