Another thought after watching the whole show... This Vox acts a lot like my little 10w Vox Pathfinder solid state amp a friend gave me because his son didn't want it. Put a delay and drive pedal (I use a Tube Driver with a 12ax7) in front of it and mike it or go direct to the PA and it suddenly turns into a good enough amp for small pub gigs, in an 8lb box the size of a toaster. Take it, your guitar and a couple pedals to the gig and you're good. And actually an acoustic with a preamp/pickup sounds pretty good through it too on the clean channel.

Reminds me of a local pawn shop story, they had put out a Sterling 7-string metal-oriented guitar and a fellow customer was negotiating for a discount. Price was $280, reducing by 20% for every 90 days it doesn't sell- a typical policy. There is virtually no popular demand for this very specialized guitar. Dude offered $200 cash just to get the basic FR-type trem and 7-pole Seymour Duncans out of it for a project. "Nope, just can't do that." ("So how 'bout $220 cash, can you meet me there?") "Nope, sorry." ("I don't think you're going to get $280 but good luck.") Six months later that guitar still hangs on their wall getting no buyer attention, price is now down to $180 and no takers yet. Needless to say, if it was a six-string model it would've probably been gone by the first markdown to $224, and almost certainly by now. So who else thinks the shop should've jumped on $220 cash six months ago? I would've in their position. As the saying goes, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." Especially these days.

@@j-man9457 Thanks J! Same day, same shop I picked up a used '04 Squier Strat hardtail for $80 (talked 'em down from $90 because of a broken saddle, replaced it with a new set of brass ones from Musiclily- recommended and excellent!). The guitar was mainly just grimy and needed new strings, a setup and some love. Otherwise, great condition and nearly unplayed, without a scratch on it. This was a Samick actually, from Indonesia. Look for 'SI' in the serial prefix- these are generally very good. Did a total teardown/renovation/setup like you do, have a super 'better than new' giggable guitar now for $120 and a few enjoyable hours of my time. I wouldn't trade this Squier for a current Fender Player or MIM. Have a great day brother.

Hey J-MAN, I didn’t get to see your cables there after you showed us the speaker output jack, so just in case, I thought I’d give a friendly word of warning for you and anyone else out there reading this: Do NOT use a standard guitar cable or headphone cable for the speaker connection! You need a SPEAKER wire for a speaker connection. They all may share the same 1/4” TS/TRS connectors, but speaker wires are much thicker than guitar or headphone cables, since they’re carrying FAR greater wattage. If you use a guitar cable for a speaker connection, the high current levels of the speaker connection may very well melt the cable and kill your amp in short order with the resulting open circuit, particularly if it is a tube amp or a solid state amp that does not have open circuit protection.
