No, he didn't teach Astaire. Astaire and his sister were famous when they were children. Bubbles choreographed Fred's tribute to Bill Robinson in one of Fred's films with Ginger Rogers. And he showed Fred how to use props while dancing, mostly, the cane.
@@amahra100 Thanks for the correction. My language was imprecise as does not indicate that Fred and Adele were already successful when he met Bubbles in New York. That said, Fred admired Bubbles did indeed study with him in 1920. And yes, they reunited in 1936 to choreograph what was described as a tribute to Bill Bojangles Robinson for the film 'Swing Time' but is really much closer to Bubble's style: ua-cam.com/video/xm1jiv3zYw0/v-deo.html
@@YouzTube99 Yes, you're right. Bubbles was 18 and Fred was 22 when they met. Before Bubbles, tap dancing was a light touch with the toes. Bubbles was the first to add the heel which created a harder tap and a different rhythm, later, I believe, known as hoofing. And he indeed taught that method to Fred.
@@amahra100 Thanks for the additional information. It's a wonderful example of artists sharing with each other. If time travel existed, I'd love a be in the room while Bubbles and Astaire worked together.
And, NO ONE seems to remember this great dancer. In my book, he’s the best tap dancer who ever danced in show business. The father of modern tap was a genius.
Lucille Ball, the show's Producer, sought out Mr. Bubbles to showcase his great, now forgotten talent from her past.
Lucy = Class.
Can't get much more historic than this: Lucy, Mel, and Bubbles!!!
And ventriloquist Paul Winchell behind the bar.
What a treasure MR.John W.Bubbles was.
Born in 1902, a tap dance pioneer with BIll Bojangles Robinson. Amazing his talent.
Three Legends Absolutely Marvelous RIP
Lucy Ball was the MVP of showing everyone equality and respect
I grew up with wholesome creative entertainment
Lucy can toe tapping her shoes with the music.
What talent! I have this episode (Mainstreet, U.S.A.) on a boxed set of The Lucy Show Collector's Edition.
That's ventriloquist Paul Winchell behind the counter.

In 1920, Mr. Bubbles (Sublett) also taught a guy named Fred Astaire who went on to have a pretty good career.

Did Bubbles ever age? He was amazing.
Before Lucy ever got up off that stool, you could see she was already dancing!
Or upstaging.
My grandpa n grandma listened to old jazz and i have an LP of "Bubbles" but dont know how popular he was. Lucy was hot as hell
Bubbles was born with the dancing “gene”...
Love this.
wow thank you for this upload....the quality is CRAZY!! great song btw
Lucy was a rehearseaholic so I wonder how many times they did this routine before filming.
What is the year when this was shot?
Lucy was so great as Mrs. Ricky Ricardo and so full of herself here
Lol where was she full of herself??

Yes, in a fun way - it was a pleasure watching her with the great John Bubbles
Ģood
From what year is this?
The 1960s.
This episode is from 1967 - John Bubbles is 65; Lucy is 56, Mel is 42. John Bubbles is still amazing here.
