I went to Miami beach for Christmas. Let me tell you, laying on the beach watching the waves listening to this song is such a healing and unbelievable experience! I LOVE this song!

I can see what you're saying about hope but for me I always think of this as the voice of the 6 year old Nate from the song "Nate" talking to grown up Nathan. I know, as someone who had a similar childhood to his, and as a psychotherapist, that one of the major ways we cope with trauma is to split off the "weaker", more vulnerable/ victimised/ traumatised parts of ourselves and effectively reject them as though they weren't part of us, so that we can just cope and get on with some semblance of living - though of course for wholeness we have to eventually, over time, and often with a fair bit of help, accept them as part of ourselves and integrate them and the experiences they went through into our sense of self again!! He describes it absolutely perfectly in the last verse of the song "Nate".
One of my favorite things about NF and his album structure is the introspective way he ends his albums. Oh Lord, Paralyzed, Trauma. Just beautiful art pieces that are talking about such deep seated pains.
