Regardless of how I feel about Chris lately, I'm still willing to give the film a fair chance. I used to be a regular viewer of Chris back in the day, but some of his takes have been down right embarrassing lately. I kinda understand were he's coming from, but at the same time we should still be able to call out the BS when we see it. His new attitude towards critiquing movies just makes me roll my eyes and basically boils down to "Im not going to bash shtty movies anymore, because I know hard it is to make a film".
I agree with you 100%, man. I’ve loved the guy’s channel for so long, and I just hate what’s happened to him. Many people try to argue that he’s just growing-up, but seem to forget he was already in his mid-twenties when he started the channel lol. I wish him well, but I hope that he can look at something like yesterday, where it’s all over the news that John Carpenter thinks Oppenheimer is overrated hahahah.
Part 2! Where I will criticize him hard though is on these two subjects: 1- His Madam Web video. It showed people how insecure he still is. I remember the few times he went on Movie Fights back in the day...I've noticed then how pompous he could be and how he wasn't good at disagreeing with someone, even just for fun. I was surprised by that. For Madam Web, he put the blame on fans, critics and studios (good way for SONY to NOT hire you lol), but NOT the director?? The same director who directed the pilot episode of the Game of throne prequel that was cancelled? lol He really, really dropped the ball on that one. There's ALWAYS interference by the studios, he should know this. He cannot have it both ways. If Shelby Oaks is bad...he will have to take the criticism like a man. I'm a full-time marketing video editor/director for video games trailers and I get feedback EVERY DAY lol Not always easy but you need to have tough skin.
So I guess it's in my part 3 that UA-cam has a problem with something I wrote (because it keeps getting deleted) but I don't know why lol Basically, the other thing I found a bit weird and disingenuous was when he continued to ask money from his viewers long after the campaign was over. He has producers for this (finding money) so I don't know...I thought he relied a bit too much on the good will of his subscribers imho.

From what I understand, Flanagan has been involved for more than a year or so, so it's not new. They just announced it officially basically. I still like him, but it's crazy how he went from being one of the most respected movie critics on UA-cam to one to be laughed at. He used to be more energetic, to have way more fun, etc. I miss his hilariocity series but also his in-depth analysis one. When he decided his new schtick of not being very negative anymore, it's clear that he lost a lot of respect from people...the thing is that, personally, I don't have a big problem with that because I get the ''why'' (doesn't want to burn bridges, make enemies in the industry etc) BUT...he should stop putting the word ''review'' in his titles then. He should really just talk about movies/video games he loves for fun and that's it. That's why no one takes him seriously anymore...he still considers himself a critic...but won't criticize movies in-depth so...lol

I don’t know how fair the Blair Witch-style trailer is to what his actual film will be, because I’m assuming he’s making a linear film and not a found footage movie, but I could definitely be wrong. I want him to succeed, but I’d like it a lot if he was less shillish about it, you know? Loved watching him, all these years.
Honestly, I hope he sticks with modestly budgeted horror and thriller. The guy excels at that, and I’m hoping Adam Wingard will come back to it, too, someday lol.

The studios are not to blame, despite most of them sucking, too, when the filmmakers suck just as much.
