Roxy Music and David Bowie.. those are thoe ones who paved the way for the whole new romantic wave in the early 80s. Ahead of their time.
The entire Avalon album is like this, lush and dreamy and fantastic. Check out the title cut, Avalon, one of the most beautiful songs ever. This album came out in 1982. If you'd like to hear something more current from Bryan Ferry, he sings on an incredible song by Groove Armada called Shameless. It's really really good. I'm glad you liked this song, it's pretty incredible.
He reacted to Avalon a few weeks ago.
@@nosivadbor Thanks, I discovered that last night. I don't think he cared that much for the song, but I appreciate the honesty. Everyone can't love everything.
I've always loved this album.
@@jaytalley3715 Yeah, it's so so good!
Recently elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Thank you for playing Roxy Music.
You done exactly what i do when listening to Roxy. Close your eyes and drift away in the buttery smooth and masterful production of their sound. So talented in their sound and Bryan Ferry's mesmerizing voice.
His solo work with Johnny Marr has a few gems as well.
My favorite Roxy Music song from the immortal Avalon CD. One of the first albums made for that format. Lush orchestration, beautiful trance like music and heartbreaking lyrics. Simply the most romantic music in the 80s this side of Sade. Put on your headphones or sidle up next to your romantic partner and enjoy this entire album. Sheer beauty and perfect mood music. Cheers
Love Roxy Music. Bryan Ferry has such an interesting voice! You should check out "Jealous Guy" by Bryan Ferry. He remade it from John Lennon's 1971 "Jealous Guy". So many hits from Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry's solo career.
That's Tuna! 💕 I'd recognize him anywhere...what a sweet baby!
@@dmartin1203 Apologies to tag on to you guys comments. But the words were necessary. When Ferry says "more than this, there's nothing more than this, name me one thing" he was talking about our lives. Yup, I'm a downer. Sorry everyone. But it remains beautiful. Just like life...sometimes.
The entire Avalon album has the same dreamy feel as this song
Prince did a beautiful cover of this song live, it’s definitely worth watching- !
(on YT from 2011 WTA tour). This was a huge hit in the early 80s, on the radio, everywhere.
I love the reaction! Great request!
You would like Slave to Love, Don't Stop the Dance or Jealous Guy or the title song Avalon.
I see that big grin and closed eyes! ⚡️The pinnacle of flawless 80s production. Headphones is the way to groove to this and the instrumental flow at the end is perfect for driving to 🔥🔥
I think my favorite song of theirs is "avalon". Similar to this, but even softer and moodier.
You could also try Bryan Ferry (the lead singer in this group) solo, "kiss and tell". Really good, but not really a moody song though, more a head bobber.
Also a song Grace Jones covers (I think. Maybe the roxy music version is the cover), "love is the drug".
This is my favorite Roxy Music song. I love the ambient feel.
Love this song
I so love as you were talking about your experience, you stopped and paused as you heard the last, at the very end of the song, the string movements, I so love that too, even though it's just a few seconds, it reminds me of how orchestras, you know tune up a little before they begin a perfornance,...its just lovely how RM ended, topped this song off,...a sort of dreamy, floating finish. So glad you checked this out, do continue on, with Bryan Ferry's solo work, brilliant as well,..Boys and Girls album is masterful,.Don't Stop The Music is my fav(a sensual, sexy, sexy song, meant to dance close with someone to) along with Windswept, Sensation(groovy, mad baseline, beat), I think the most romantic, sensual album ever made, do enjoy,...Godspeed, Peace
I’m going to see the 50th anniversary concert of Roxy Music’s first album this coming September! I’ve got 4 RM albums and 2 Bryan Ferry solo albums. Yeah you can say I’m a fan lol.
You should check out Brian Eno’s solo album, “Here comes the warm jets.” Fantastic!
Yes brother!
ROXY MUSIC ☆ SAME OLD SCENE
Wow, this really took me back. When I was studying in Japan in the early '80s, Roxy Music was one of my go-to cassettes (!?). I had a double album of "Avalon" (which this song is on) and "Flesh + Blood".
Both great albums and hard to classify. Definitely spacey - Brian Eno started with them, no surprise!
Both albums are great
My dad used to work in Saudi Arabi and when i was about 10 he bought a pirate tape of Roxy Music, i played this song over and over. The song transports back to then, few cars, my mum and dad, brother and sisters, granny and granda....ah i could go on and on.
React to their song Don't Stop The Dance, Slave To Love and Is Your Love Strong Enough please.
In the 80s this band seemed to be the "Darling of the Era" I was distracted with other groups but came to my senses later and purchased this recording. Wonderful sound for sure.
I became a fan of this song from the movie Lost in Translation starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johanssen
Second favorite song from Roxy Music!!!! Great request John 🔥 👍🏾
Thank MM! Glad you enjoy it as much as I!
What’s first???
@@patrick3926 Love is the Drug!
@@musicman9914 great choice
Avalon, Oh Yeah, and Jealous Guy are three of my favorite songs by Roxy Music. I think I like Oh Yeah the best. Love your reaction to More Than This!
all class.
The whole of Avalon is worth a listen
Love Brian Ferry. Such a gentleman. ;)
I never paid much attention to this song until I watched Bill Murray sing it In Lost In Translation, I’ve become a fan of Bryan Ferry. Always has had an outstanding band with him.
One of my favorite 80s groups. Check out Bryan Ferry's solo albums as well. Fantastic!
Actually Roxy Music are a 70's group. They formed in 1970 and their first album was released in 1972. Though obviously they lasted up until the 80's.
One of the cornerstones in the foundation of British New Wave synth band - movement of the 80's. Add David Bowie and Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder / Donna Summer. This album "Avalon" was their swan song.
they sound like morden English a little bit.
Slave to love a classic
Great track, the Avalon LP was a babymaker
This was from their last album, which is very good, though very easy listening, and COMPLETELY different from the art rock of their first three albums in particular. Basically, they evolved a lot during their fairly brief time together - only just over a decade, including a hiatus of some three years. I love this song, although some of their hardcore fans deride it as too smooth by far.
For a total contrast, try listening to 2HB or If There Is Something, from their first album.
Thank you JJ for a great reaction and I agree about lyrics not being so necessary. I enjoyed your reaction.💛✌️
I've heard this many times before. Sounds like it's been on a commercial or one of those 80's-90's teen 🍿 🎥 movies?
If I'm not mistaken he does an unbelieveable cover Album of Dylan classics and he hits a home run !!!!!!!!!
Hey John 👋🏾 I remember Roxy music very well wow thank you totally forgotten about this 👍🏾👍🏾
💛
Great pick John!
Your request inspired me!💛
Ya know, I heard most of my music on the radio as a kid growing up in the 60's. Only if I bought the album, and only if the album came with the lyrics did I know what the hell was being said. It didn't seem to matter to me then, and most of the time it still doesn't determine if I like a song or not. Guess the melody alone does it for me. Live this song, whatever he's saying. 👍😁
All true. All of them went to RISD (Rhode Island School of Design).
Ferry's voice is hypnotic.
I never got into Roxy Music but I like Bryan Ferry's solo stuff. Is this their biggest hit?
Roxy Music never quite cracked the American market, I think it's because Ferry's voice was too weird, more of a European vibe. Love Is The Drug, from the earlier Siren LP probably got the most airplay.
I like More Than This because it reminds me of the LP before Avalon, Flesh + Blood, which had two FM radio hits, Over You and Oh Yeah (On the Radio).
@@glibmedley2314 Ah yes, Love Is the Drug! That track always reminds me of Talking Heads. Thanks for the info!
Can you play "slavery days " Burning Spear 🔥
if you like this stick to the avalon album. it’s really not like the rest of their catalog. this is more like bryan ferry’s solo work.
