OK, right into Resi 3 (this is gonna be long).
While labelled as easy and hard I'd describe them as baby and normal... but admittedly RE3 is by default harder than 2 due to its higher action focus. The amount of stuff they give you in easy is completely ridiculous. You start normal mode (just as in RE2) with your handgun and a combat knife (and the two instructions and reloading tool), you don't get the shotgun until you find it in that room Brad first appeared from, next you would get (randomly) either the magnum or grenade launcher, Jill _never_ gets the assault rifle and the first aid boxes are late game nemesis drops. The amount of stuff it gives you for free is totally nuts and that's not even mentioning that they shave off part of the zombies HP. In Resi 2 on Playstation easy mode just gave you 100 or so handgun bullets and made enemies weaker. Though I have tried it on dreamcast too and that has two different easy modes - one starts you with an infinite machine gun and the other gives you that and the infinite rocket launcher and gatling gun as well. It is a shame that you are not getting to explore the management side of the games but while it would be more fun to view, it would take you longer to get through them. Even though there is less ammo in normal than easy there is still enough to take out every enemy in the game so long as you skip all the ones in the streets you never return to in the opening of Resi 2 and don't blow it all on taking out the Nemesis every time in Resi 3.
Structure - While RE3 does not have two characters to choose from like 1 or 2 it gives you re-playablity with a lot variance during the campaign, this works on a few levels, the most obvious of which is the live selections but there are two other levels as well.
First is randomness. The consumable items (ammo, powder, herbs) are more randomly placed during the game. Where you find items once may not be the same place as where you find them in your next game or if you reload an older point. If you see an item somewhere it gets locked in at that location (won't disappear to somewhere else). If you saved the game then found the magnum but reloaded that save you might find the grenade launcher there instead. Generally though there are only two places where you might find any item, if they aren't in one they will be in the other so it's not utterly random.
Second is passive choices. The scenes and encounters you get will change depending simply on where/what you go/do first. For example you read the report on the cafe owner with the gem in his stomach. this cafe is one of the blue locations on the map of the next area, nearby however is the newspaper office (also blue) in these two locations there is either a scene or a key item and the one you get depends on where you go first. Whenever you have two locations you can go to, depending on which you do first will alter what happens in the game, there are some scenes that you might never see because you never go to the correct trigger location first.
Lastly is the live Selections, the first of which is the initial nemesis encounter. At certain set moments Jill will find herself in some sort of disaster situation and time will slow while two choices appear on screen. *Both* of these choices will resolve the danger situation, there is never a wrong choice even if one of them does not seem effective until it is chosen. In the Nemesis example here you can either run or fight. If you run then you escape into the station immediately and he can't follow you through the door thus making you completely safe. However you then need to explore more of the station to find Jill's Stars ID to get the key. If you fight the nemesis instead you can down him for a special item, then get Brad's ID, then enter the station and he can't follow because he was downed _and_ the main door would stop him. There is a better 3rd option though - choose to fight, go straight to Brad for his ID and enter the station before Nemesis even touches you. Technically there is always a third option - don't make a choice and let the timer run out, this will always result in taking some damage automatically and being in a bad situation. These choices can further affect things like which side of the next area you start from, if you will have help in a boss fight, or which scenes you may see.
Combining these three mechanics means that any two playthroughs can vary by quite a lot, just go through twice and choose the alternate options in the live selection to see how the game changes. There are 2 different endings to the game (well, 2.5) and the one you get depends on your choice in the semi final selection. If you don't want to play through twice I can tell you which selection is the trigger for the endings, then when you get there you can save into an alternate slot then reload at the end to choose the other option. I do recommend playing through twice however to appreciate how much the gameplay and scenes can vary. (maybe on normal/hard...)
This structure is a variance of how Resi 1 works but without the randomness. The passive choices (where you went first) and a few (less immediately perilous) choices changed the structure of the game and which endings you got.
Nemesis. He is supposed to be a relentless and intimidating presence throughout the game and unlike Mr X he is very tough to deal with, if you don't have at least a magnum or grenade launcher don't even think of taking him on. Sure he does drop cool items but the price for harming him that much is _really_ steep. Now full blown experts at the game are happy to take him on with a knife for funsies but a casual player, even one with a bit of experience will just run, getting him on new game plus with infinite weapons is so much easier. The items he drops in normal are not ammo like Mr X does but special equipment. Drop him twice for parts to create a special handgun which fires faster and has a random chance to kill in one shot. Twice more for a cool rapid fire shotgun. You can also get the F aid box (I think you can get 2 in total) and an even more special item for dropping him every time. To get these items (and make him stop chasing you) you need to drop him _twice_ per encounter, it can be done but the price is high.
Dodging and quick turn - Both features are new to this game but the dodging mechanic is not greatly implemented. It is near impossible to trigger deliberately, it uses the combat buttons (aim/fire) to activate but only during an incoming attack. It is far more likely to activate because you have coincidently tried to shoot or aim at the correct moment.
Gunpowder - You can stack up to three powders of the same type to create AAA, BBB or CCC. Combining the powders with the mixing tool turns them into bullets but just like with herbs you get more out of them by using them stacked than individually, so a stack of AAA powder gives you more bullets than 3 individual A(s). If you combine lots of AAAs (or BBBs) you get a stronger variety of ammo but it takes so long to get there that it isn't worth trying. With grenades however you can mix a powder directly with a base explosive grenade to turn them into a stronger type of grenade without having to use the reloading tool, if you have a stack of grenades and combine them with an A powder then six grenades will separate out and become flame rounds, if you use AA powder then even more will become flame rounds. (btw freeze rounds work best on Nemmy as they slow him a little)
Files - quick tip. In this game there are 30 files to find and they are entered into the file folder in the order you can find them, so if you look in the folder and see a gap it means you missed one in between finding the two on either side. (The last file on the first page is found in the container that guy locked himself in at the beginning)
Item Box - There is still no auto sort function but if you look at the side you can see that they are at least colour coded now so you can find things more easily, there is a separate colour for key items, ammo and health. You can also see if there is an item separate from the rest.
Explosive/shootable items - There are two aim buttons this time, one will target enemies only the other will target explosive items as well, if you want to destroy items to take out a crowd of enemies then use aim-all.
Brad - I mentioned on the last RE2 vid that you get a special key from a new zombie if you get to the station without picking up any items, this zombie is Brad Vickers the pilot from the original game. In Resi 2 you find him as a zomboy but don't find out what happened to him, in this game you find out how he got there. Incidently are you playing RE1 next? I recommend it before Code Veronica as it (RE1) still uses pre-rendered backgrounds and static cameras whereas CV moved onto 3D environments. Both still play in the 'classic' style before RE4 changed everything.

ChocolateRob love your work man, thank you for the write up. I’m really loving RE3 and it’s systems, and might also look at toning down my usage on certain guns because of the difficulty haha. I think I’m gonna play RE1 next to round off the original trilogy and I don’t want to leave it too long and play the future games before having to go back to this style of gameplay.

I do hope he comes back around to these games eventually and does them on Normal (or Hard in RE3's case) though. I don't think he played the original RE1? Just the remake. And he could play RE2 Claire A/Leon B for a slightly different experience. And then obviously this game is quite different on Hard compared to Easy.
I imagine he probably has a huge and endlessly increasing backlog of games he has never played before that will keep pushing these down the list though lol.

I respectfully disagree. After how easy he breezed through RE2, and said himself that the difficulty was too generous. And he stated he began this game directly after finishing RE2, it was safe assumption that he wouldn't play on easy. Secondly the main audience of this type of content is going to be mostly diehard fans, and they want to see him "experience" the game, and not breeze through it on training wheels. They can play the games how they want, but if their a content creator, uploading and covering a long established popular series, their will always be criticism. With all that said, I've enjoyed the video and glad he got to experience one of my favorite video games, even if it wasn't what id call the true "experience."

Just a heads up with Veronica though, it is really easy to lose tons of your items permanently halfway through the game. It's worth looking up why to avoid it.

Personally I would have stuck with the Magnum to defeat Nemesis as it takes far less shots than the Shotgun. Also, the reason you kept getting killed when he grabbed you and was about to tentacle your face was because you needed to mash the buttons rapidly to escape (unless Jill is badly injured in which case it won't work).

João Pedro Lisbôa it was recommended to me to continue easy based on my choice for RE2, once we are off the PS1 Resident Evil games, I’ll be doing Normal difficulty. 🙂 I play games to have fun and enjoy myself and also make it a smooth process for content creation - I do like a challenging experience at times as well but I do not restrict myself to only a harder difficulty when I play. With limited time to play, record, edit and post outside of my full time job sometimes I gotta accomodate for that.

@@Mapocolops lol, hi. First of all you started the game with having 2 extra slots. Also, when you take items its glitching. Which means you are using codes.
Second, you knew you are taking the town map before even taking it.
Third, you are evading nemesis attacks , which can't be done by someone playing as the first time.
Fourth, when you save the game its written by the blue color instead of white, which means you are not playing for the first time.

      Awesome, rebuttal time!
First, 2 extra slots is easy mode. This is explained in the video, if you watched properly before accusing. Glitching is because it is emulated on Dolphin emulator, it is not the original hardware. This is also explained, but I think you're not really listening to what I say in the videos, that much is clear.
Second, do you not have any common sense? or are you just not used to seeing it in action? It's a map. Looks like a map, stands out as a map. It's a map to pick up. What would it be a map of? the Resident Evil 1 mansion? the Resident Evil 4 castle? or maybe the map would obviously relate to the location you're in. This is called deduction, you will need this as a detective, btw...
Third, easy mode gives you auto dodges, I replied to your other comment about that already. 18:15 answers this for you very, very clearly.
Fourth, I genuinely have no idea what the colour thing is even about, that could be a version difference? This is the Gamecube version of the game.
Anything else, detective or am I free to leave?

      - Btw, i wont say it all, case would f up the gameplay, but the codding in RE's is much like a TaticsRPG. Like the place what u re and all that u see and more, are throwed to numbers, then formulas happen, random number comes back, then results in how many life u healed with a green herb. 1 or 15 bullets to kill the same zombie or shit like that.
      - On Mercenaries RE 8, they show the damage. But the first games that was much more "TaticsRPG", they still uses the core idea, but more simple codes. (I liked the crazy fckup codes ;-;)
