Split bar trivet - RMS demo
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2018
- At least once a year, I try to host the local blacksmithing group, the Rocky Mountain Smiths. This year I demonstrated the forging of a trivet made by splitting a 1" bar with a hot cut and opening it to create the ring, three legs and a handle for the trivet.
For another view of this demo please see the Rocky Mountain Smiths UA-cam version

My comment is three years after the fact, however your presentation is as good now as it was initially. I enjoy your videos. Keep'm up.
Watching you drop stuff makes me feel better about my dropping stuff, more dropping stuff please.
sometimes content over rides quality... I thoroughly enjoy your videos regardless of any issues with the video itself... listening to you explaining and demonstrating is the best part. Thanks John!!!
Thanks for that!

Very well spoken and polite, John is the ‘Gentleman Blacksmith’. Jc
It was a lot of fun watching, and helping out when I got a chance. First time tandem striking, and it was a lot of fun, thank you for hosting and teaching
Boy, that lady swings a mean hammer!
Very cool. I didn't see anything I thought I needed more. Whatever wasn't there....wasn't missed. Sweet.
A Nice Trivit Blacksmith.. I got my new Hip, so I am grounded for 6 weeks or more, so no workshop meantime; I will however watch your videos more oftern....
I thought it was a great video. Thank you for sharing
Five o'clock in the morning already, and I still can't get my eyes off that blacksmithing video channel. And I immediately had the aha effect when I saw the ten inch bar with its marks.
Everything was fine and amusing.
Thanks a ton for posting this i learned alot like I always do from your work godbless john and be safe.
Amen
John sir. You worry too much about what we're going to think about your video production. Its great sir, looks fantastic and has alot of information
It comes from all of the comments I get complaining about one thing or the other. Hopefully if I address their complaint up front it will save them the time to complain and me the time to read it.
Loved the double hammer work with Caitlin, looked so cool.
Good morning, John, thank for the Videos on Split Trivets, you gave me another Idea I can split the tale on my Tire Tool Project and skip the Forge welding and I still get a Usable Wooden wheel Iron Tire Tool
Glad to help
I really enjoyed this.
It’s almost been a year between this video and now... I enjoy your videos either year. You are an amazing teacher. Thank you so very much for your time!
I have to agree, he is hands down one of the best teachers in the world, period.
Fantastic Demo!!! That jumbo cone mandrel is awesome. I have to agree with a few of the others comments- That young lady was getting after that bar!
As floor mandrels go, this one is on the small side
I've made quite a few of the split crosses but there a breeze compared to that piece. That was really interesting to watch. It looked to me like all the members in attendance were really impressed as well. Great job John! You are one heck of a blacksmith! I know you say your not but in my eyes you are a master!
This is what i need ,going to join N.C. artists blacksmith assoc. soon.Looks like a great bunch of folks you guys have over there. Thanks for sharing,
I seen the sneaky fellow with the double handed doughnuts!! No need to hide we all double fist them if our coffee cups aren't near!
I suspect he saw me coming with the camera and was putting me on a bit.
Great to see this....my 9yr old daughter just walked past and said" don't watch anyone else Papa....I really like him". I would love to go to a meet but I don't know of any groups here in Ireland
I would be surprised if wasn't at least one group
Even if there is not a group, start a group!!
I see the Irish Artist blacksmith Association . Here is their website irishbacksmiths.com
You may look up Finin Liam Christie from Coolgreany, Wexford.
Exceptional sir.
What a fun demo! It would been even more fun to be there to see the steps! Great video!
Great project John.Seems like pushing the hammers back into the new area made a lot more room for demos.
For the time being it did. But once the new hammer is in, it might not seem as roomy
You did a really good job with the videography in capturing the demonstration. Thank you for your efforts.
I felt like I was there, and i wish I could have been there especially for those tamales!. We teach to learn. Excellent video.
They ate every last one
Thanks for showing us your demo! And all the time it took to edit and put it together. It was great.
I am very happy with your Blessings. Your experience making me to get my career in Black smithy works. The group of Artisans really I am seeing that God is in your Team. Thank you. 👏👏👏👏🤝🙏
😇
@@bennyhill3642 THANK YOU. 💚💚💚🙏🙏🙏
Love your videos. Thank you for helping a beginner
That looks like a lot of fun. I joined my local chapter of ABANA and ABANA it self but not much been going on in Nj. Hopping someone with do something. Thx John for sharing again. ....Paul.
I have been watching your videos for a while now and I really enjoyed your interaction with the boy striking with you in this video! What an amazing learning experience it must have been. BTW you remind me so much of Norm Abram from “The New Yankee Workshop” and “This Old House” except you are a blacksmith and not a yankee 😉 Loving the videos!
Looks like a very good time in the shop ! Made me want to organize some ! Thank you for sharing
Awesome demo John! The video work is very good too . Can't wait to see more. Thanks
I currently do not have the space for any kind of shop here in the burbs. I came across this channel by accident, as my interest was in blade making, but I am really getting into watching/learning these techniques and suspect they will make me a much better bladesmith in the long run... Once I find a place to start working. :) Thanks for the videos
Good luck on your journey in blacksmithing, its a lot of fun
Split bar trivet making is very interesting to me. My favourite masters demonstrated superb performance. Also I like the class conducted by my favourite Master of RMS.Thank you.
I like the guy eating a donut and holding a backup, just in case the first one was not enough!
That was a top video mate. I wish I could have been there...that Mexican sounded great too. Learned heaps. Cheers mate.
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent video, John! Thanks so much sharing.
Enjoyed the demo
Excellent content and excellent execution. Keep up the great work, John!
John that was great, No apologies are necessary.
Great video
Really enjoyed this John. Thank you.
Great project John. I would like to make one soon. We had great fun making the four-legged trivets a while back. I sure hope that I get the chance to strike for you one day.
enjoying watching this
I really enjoyed this Video John. I learned a great deal and it was entertaining as well. thank you for sharing.
Another great one thanks for sharing
“Sometimes I look at it, I think it’s crooked, sometimes I look at I think it’s straight”...I felt felt that way to much
Thank you for sharing this with us
It was Just fine Got a lot out of it. best fly on the wall video
Nice video John
Excellent Mate. Thanks
I think you did a great job sir
great video!!!
Great job!!!!
I like the new power hammer!
Great video!!!!!!!!!
Best part was watching the studen hide his second doughnut 🍩 🤣
Looks like you cleaned up the shop a little for your confab!
The young strikers nearly gave me an aneurism hehehe
Just a couple of observations. This would be a perfect use of a striking anvil. The strikers were not at a comfortable height. Secondly, if you made a handled splitting chisel that was perpendicular to the work instead of parallel it would keep the heat off of your hand and offer more control. Not being critical, I love your work.
How is a striking anvil different from a standard anvil
I am glad to see you have some young members active. That was a nice demo. Thanks for sharing
Мастерам респект.
Amazing what you can get out of a square bar, who needs a power hammer when you have friends?
Thank you. Any events coming to PA?
Awesome job John! Hey I would like to see how you made that hot cut!
I was hoping to do a video on it, but ran out of time. I will plan on one in the near future.
Hey John, you seem very comfortable teaching, even more at ease doing the demonstration than you are on film.
I’ve told people I e taken up blacksmithing, but really only done a couple things and forge 4 knives. Thinking of things to smith is a bit of a holdback. What 4-5 projects would you recommend to new smiths? Thanks again.
Various hooks, fire pokers, punches and chisels for work at the anvil.
I wish I could go to a hammer jam but it trusts out I am the only blacksmith that I know
By hitting that mini sledge hammer on metal tool to make hole in middle, do you get mushrooming like wood splitting wedges? Really old woodsplitting wedges had wooden sockets with a ring around the dogwood or boxwood inset. Did old blacksmith tools also have wooden inserts? Might be easier on the ears too
Yes it does mushroom, but wood wouldn't holdup and there would be to much energy lost. So you just have to take time to dress the tools from time to time.
I wish I was there. I would have been the first one up to strike.
That mandrel is bonkers
I thought it was close to the camera, but it's just that big
Would you happen to know the original reason why that cone shaped object sitting on the floor was invented for and does it have any other purpose other than to make something round.
Will you talk about your portable band saw stand?
ua-cam.com/video/V1ONLDMKUTc/v-deo.html
What's the go, you dont bring out the decent striker until there is only the handle left to do? :)
Its just a matter of who steps up and volunteers. I was glad the young man got into it, it was his first blacksmithing event.
man I'm tryna kick it with yall lol
12:30 who wants to strike?
... and nobody stands up except for the oldest guy :)
and that's kind of strange for me, I think most of us subscribers, would jump up in an instant on the opportunity to strike for John!
People tend to be self conscious in front of the group.
@@BlackBearForge That fella with the menards shirt is really swift and jerky with his arms when he struck, pretty cool. Dan started out like a pro, holding the hammer in a ready position.
I don't know who bakes your pies, but, around here, pie r round😜πr^2
Thank you for the info. New Mexico green chili is more better
`I clapped too yeah so pretty
You guys need to make a new rule 1 bloke 1 heat then pass so every one gets a go and it’s not left up to on 1 or 2 guys
I think they are all scared to swing that sledgehammer lol I think if you had a third hand you could swing your everyday hammer harder than any of them, accept the woman I think she did better than all the men lol
Great video
