I like how I'm learning where the "- topic" labeled songs come from on UA-cam. I'm just uploaded twice like those people have. Doesn't seem like it could hurt, unless you are aiming to focus on a music video maybe?
It just another way for ppl to find your music. And if you have a music video you can drive traffic to that instead. But it's up to you
And if your channel is not monetize and you wanna get money from your music , allow them to upload it , is a good option

I uploaded 2 singles from my upcoming album and I was wondering if I can add these singles to to my album once it releases or do I have to re upload the songs? Also If I change my artist name would that create a new page on spotify, itunes, apple music etc. or will it just go on the same pages but with a new name?

Yep!
Just upload the single first, and then upload the entire album (including the single) as a separate release. Once the full release is in stores, you can choose to leave the single, or remove it and only have the album version available.
Note: If you use your existing ISRCs (you need to have the Musician Plus or Label plan to do so), the exact same audio file as in your original upload, same metadata (track titles, artist name, etc.) this might help retain play counts/playlists for the single in some stores. Nothing that we (or stores) can guarantee, however.

Hey, I uploaded my single 10 day's ago and it's still not been uploaded. Do you how long it will take to go to stores?
They recommend uploading 4 weeks in advanced to go live on a specific day. But they have info on their FAQ section if you want to check it out.

1. I get that the preview start time clip can be chosen by the artist, however, how long does that preview clip go for on Tiktok, iTunes, etc? Does it start from that time and go till the end of the song or is there a specific time frame? Is that time frame different for different places?
You can select where in the song the preview is and I believe the store determines the length of the preview. You just get it to start where you want.
TikTok previews are for up to 1 minute, and iTunes previews are 15 or 30 seconds

My question is, what if you don't have a Spotify, Apple Music, Itunes account and so on before you sign up for DistroKid, does DistroKid makes those accounts for you when you sign up for DistroKid and if so are you able to customize them (put the photo you want in, write what you like)?
Yeah they make them for you. It's been awhile since setting mine up I can't remeber if I customized or not.

What if you wrote the lyrics but didn't make the music or the beat? do i include the procuder's full name in the Songwritter's section?
Yeah it would be a split credit and you would ask the producer if they want their name or brand name. Usually it is the legal name

Hi, If I am using the musician plan and upload my music to distrokid, will it tell you once the song is on streaming platforms? (eg through an email) or do you just have to keep a lookout and find when it's been released yourself? And, how long can it take for a debut single to be released onto all major platforms? Yeah they send emails to me whenever it is live on the stores.
This is what they expect wait times to be.
iTunes/Apple Music: 1-7 days or sooner. Often same-day. A small percentage of albums go through manual review at Apple, which takes an additional 16 business days.
Spotify: Up to 5 days
Amazon: 2-4 days
Pandora: 1-2 weeks (curated, though)
Deezer: 1-2 weeks

If it is one of their accepted formats. But if you plan for it to only use the audio I would just use a audio format like WAV

So I have 5 tracks that I want to upload Distrokid. Some of the songs were recorded as one track. But I want to separate some of these tracks into separate tracks making the total of 8 tracks to make an album. Can I do that while uploading the tracks to Distrokid or would I have to cut tracks before submission? Also if I did have to separate each track myself would there be a time delay moving from track when finally submission
Yeah they won’t cut it for you they just post as it’s uploaded. For the time delay you would have to test it by playing 2 songs back to back and see if it delays it. I’m not sure.

hey how are you? i see thats a great video but i have a very important question. Distrokid added a new service for youtube and it required us to check that box in order to recieve money from ads only when we have created every peace of music and sample s ourselves which is impossible. How david gueta and other collect money fro youtube they all use samples from libraries and they still getting paid from ads , can you please help us in that aspect? can we check that box (including all boxed from this category) that we have created all the sounds ourselves even we haven't?

I still feel that CDBaby is cheaper.. I heard about the legacy option (or whatever) but still not convinced on changing to DK. Specially after seeing that they charge an additional .99 cents per year to be on Shazam and Siri, thats pretty lame. I'm sure that the reports would be from the 20 dollar account (basic) which I can live with but again.. I would only switch to DK once I start blowing up and generating some real numbers with my music.. Also, I did not see anything on UPC or ISRC codes, did I accidentally skip that part?
Took a quick look on CDbaby and they take a 9% commission on digital sales. I'm not a fan of giving up a % so I wouldn't go that route personally. And it would come down to how much music you plan to release per year. If it's 1 or 2 songs then CDBaby might be better for you but more than that and it gets expensive paying $9 per single release.
@@RawTechniqueStudios True, but it does depend on how quickly you blow up. I mean I have little to no following but am using the fact that my music is on Spotify since people seem to really like that. Point being is that I haven't even made close to $200 dollars (9% of that would be 18 dollars) and I'm almost reaching 1 year...... My low numbers aside, it would not benefit me to pay 20 dollars a year (let alone $35 a year which is what I would go for) for the time being. I am also not releasing singles until I start getting a bigger following as it would not make sense to do so, which is why I mentioned that I would switch to DK once I start getting more followers. I do hate paying yearly fees though, probably as much as you hate giving up %, the music industry is one fickle bitch my friend.

DistroKid doesn't take any cut. The stores I'm not sure what they take. But I made from a 25% split on a song from iTunes 22 cents.

If it is a Topic channel that DistroKid created for you to place your music you can't manage it. You would post any music videos you make on your own channel and manage them there.

No they shouldn’t get paid anything from your music. And content ID i don’t know if they offer it. I went through audiam for that.
Under the Language section, you select the language that the song is being interpreted right? Example: If I am singing in Portuguese you select Portuguese. Just to clarify that. thanks

I don't think they do any scanning. That is on you to know if you are the owner or have permission. If you are unsure best to contact the producer to see if it is okay.

It is as soon as the stores release the song. All have different time frames so it would come out at different times for each site.

The stores can upload without you doing the artist profile. That’s just a way for you to see stats and all that stuff. So it’s good to have

i have not made not even 1 dollar and i even had one friend buy one song from me and it still shows up like no views or sales is this because i need to fill out income tax form on distrokid or maybe i dint fill it out in the correct manner .. i did two songs ( the world feat prince j and classic vibes ) and (gushi gushi feat prince j and classic vibes ) and my songs are on all digital platform but i have not made not even 1dollar if any one knows why please pass the info thanks sincerely from (classic vibes ) oh and how do you know when you get payed for your music and when it goes to bank account .

1. It means after signing up my songs with lets say Tunecore and BMI, I don't need Songtrust or sound exchange in this case?
2. How come I see some artists when they use both Ascap and BMI at the same time on a particular song on UA-cam? Because I thought it had to only be one. Thank you.
I have a video breaking down royalties that will help but to answer your questions if you use a distributor like Tunecore or DistroKid and BMI or ASCAP then you are collecting some of the money earned from streaming and downloads. Songtrust is a admin publisher and they collect publishing for you. Sound Exchange collects non interactive streaming royalties ua-cam.com/video/AtGUgoCb0KI/v-deo.html
You can only collect from ACAP OR BMI not both because they both collect the same royalties.
so it says you can’t use unlicensed images, but if your song contains explicit lyrics, can you put the “Parental Advisory” logo on the cover

Could you please tell me what subscription is required if an album features 10 cover songs by multiple artists - does it mean Label (79,99 $/yr) option is my choice? Or is an artist considered to be someone who is just releasing those tracks? In that case, I am the only one.
Just 1 artist doing covers so no need to get the label version.
If there is already someone named Dizzy Wave and he doesn't upload no more (since 2019) can I use the name as Dizzywave or dizzywave and will distrokid mistake me for him?
You can type your name in and say if it’s you or not when the populate the people under the name. Only downside is your fans might click his profile instead of yours if it’s the same name
