Another great video ! Thanks for sharing your van life . It’s so interesting . You’re inspiring me to do it. I’m looking forward to your next video . Thanks again
I'm digging the intro and custom outro. The quality is great. effective and long enough to establish your channel without being too long and overbearing. Bravo. Great review of the stove! I'm considering the same model so I'll be interested in a follow-up.
One day I'm planning to go to your area of northwest USA...hope it's sooner, but presently I'm rather tethered in Indiana. Always watch your videos and am keeping in touch with you in this way. Jim
Any regulator will fail faster with propane tanks without a filter to trap the junk. I found this out when my gas buddy started giving me trouble once I switched from my green bottles to the 20lb one. Once I read someone else had this problem, I did as they did and my heater and Coleman Powerpack are good to go. Your fireball is a clear sign the regulator has gone bad or is gunked up. I'd bet it was the fuel that did it in.
I've had one of those butane stoves for about 18 years or so. Bullet proof. Fuel is a bit pricey but the reliability and convenience is amazing. Extremely well made stoves. In your situation I would say it's a perfect application and will serve you for a long long time.
The strikers from dollar tree are refillable and don't have the childproofing nonsense. I used my last one for over a year. Just remember to refill before they go completely dry or the switch locks. I have a similar gasone stove and I really love it. I use propane as well but I keep a few cans of butane on hand in case I run out. Thanks for the video!
Funny, I’ve had nothing but trouble with the dollar store lighters. I still keep a green propane bottle around in case my bulk tank runs out. Thanks for your comments.
I know this is a Old video but I came across it Scott searching for stove videos and by the looks of some of your older videos you have had a few different stoves. I have a nice two burner Stansport Outfitters 15000 btu stove I really like but I came to a conclusion it's way to big for my mini camp machine build so I decided to go with a dual fuel stove like your old Gas One in this video I think it will fit the bill all though it is only 12000 btu. Thanks again for sharing all your knowledge and experience with us and take care out there.
What are your thoughts on the fumes created by your stove and catalytic heater? No product will burn 100% clean, so how do you ensure ventilation, especially regarding the heater where the aim is to keep the heat in.
I rarely have a fumes build up in my van because of my ventilation system. I have a floor vent as well as a MaxxAir roof vent fan. I keep both vents open all year long. You’re correct that I lose a little heat by keeping a fresh flow of air through my van. The two advantages are plenty of oxygen and also I would roast if I didn’t let some heat escape while using my heater. I have found in a van this small, even a small heater produces a little too much heat. I also found that without my floor vent, I didn’t get enough fresh air in the van.
Never had any problems of any kind with mine cooking rice, i cook rice all the time and it always turns out nice, soft and fluffy as can be. No stickage to the pot or anything else. It goes as low as i need it to go with no problems.
That's the same stove I'm ordering this week. Been reading about it for the last month or two. I live in Florida, hurricane land . I also have the Trangia stove to. Liked your video.
Great intro music. Nice to see you popping your head up. Always enjoy your anecdotal observations. Hope you are getting out enough. Would enjoy meeting you some day.
I use a regular propane hose that is meant for gas bbq’s. And I also use a Steak Saver Propane Adapter as a transition. I buy inexpensive propane hoses at Home Depot because I prefer to replace the hoses every year or so.
Well done and thank you for making the video. I am looking for a dual fuel propane/butane stove. I love the idea of using the stove with propane. I like the 15K btu's when using stainless steel cookware. I was going to buy the coleman single burner but you have convinced me to just buy the dual fuel Cas One.
Glad you got rid of it before it blew you up! I like the new one you got. A friend of mine had one very similar and I really liked the way it worked. I had a Coleman exactly like yours and as I mentioned before it went wild and did its own fireball thing, eventually I got singed. I really liked it when it worked good. I replaced with a different model Coleman and it broke after about a year of pretty hard use. I've since replaced that stove with a Stansport which isn't great brand but I got it on clearance and it has lasted 3 or 4 years now, I think 4. Anyways, it is finally showing its age and use and I would like to replace it. It has two 35,000 btu burners so I wanna keep it for summer crab boils at golden gardens and other larger outdoor meals whil camping. I want something different and smaller for inside van. This time I've been looking at oven/stove combos. Camp chef makes one that looks good unfortunately nobody in a van on UA-cam has one to review...maybe I will have to be the guinea pig to try it first. They're kinda big but I think I can make the room, and I think smaller than my current stove. That's what I like about yours, nice and compact.
I want to like Coleman, but I don’t think their quality is very good. There are a few people using the Camp Chef cooktop/oven. I think Vanlife Sheldon’s travels has one: ua-cam.com/channels/_CgJBj9tFt992MExuSVvLw.html And there is a company that does conversions and rentals called Van-Craft that uses them in their builds: van-craft.com/
Webb Trekker right on! Two of my friends live there...I wish I could pull it off for a year or two but don't wanna commit to boat ownership just yet. And the boat I could afford would be a lot less comfortable than my van.
Static CamperVan I think Coleman products were better a long time ago, not sure...Seems like the really old Coleman stoves last but I've never had one. Camp chef seems to be better these days. The one I am looking at is a bit expensive for me but i think I gotta have it. Thanks for the link! Im gonna go check it out.
I like your new stove it looks like it's a lot safer Better Built nicer-looking then the other one you sure have your van set up nice have a nice weekend I'll watch your next video
Good hearing, "Safety First." It would be undescribable awful to loose your home/van due to a fire and equally so if a fire not contained would touch off in forests...
Good stove choice! I have a mini Gas One dual fuel stove, I've only used it with butane thus far and it works great. Btw- I really enjoy your videos, they are always brief, to the point, informative, and enjoyable. I especially like your dry sense of humor.
Got the same BBQ lighter and have been using it over a year! Been empty for most of that time but the ignition is perfect to still spark the stove. Hate the child proof ones! Looks like you don't have to mess with them now, sweet upgrade!
nice framing! I'm liking that first angle you're using! butane OR propane. interesting! that sheetpan is super creative idea. speaking of gas, I'm wondering how your new heater is treating you. I picked up the Wave 8 myself and ... it's got it's trade offs for sure. You've got a really creative brain my friend! stimulating -- i love van talk!, cheers! (also drinking my coffee)
I need to do a video on Why I stopped using butane. But the price alone is reason enough. My Wave 3 has been Great! I run it all I want and am using less than a gallon of propane a week. That’s $3 a week to heat my van. I’d say that’s darn good. Thanks my friend! Get in touch anytime.
I've used those sparkers lots and found if you turn the gas on and put the sparker in and click, then it'll ignight. No actual preflame required and then put it to the gas. So a single sparker should last years even after its gas is gone.
Thanks for the review on the stove it shows us a different way to go. I have question when you started the build on your van did you do everything yourself was putting in solar hard to do I am really looking forward to a ProMaster City to save gas and an a EZ build.
I did almost everything myself. I had a friend cut the hole for the vent. But that was more because he had the proper tools. The solar was easy to install since I kept it isolated from the vans electrical. And Renogy has a great website that answers any questions. The hardest part of my build was just deciding where to put everything. Part of why I make these videos is to show that a guy with no skills can build a van. If I can do it, you certainly can.
I've seen that stove on eBay. Good to know it works. I have that Coleman. Bob Wells discusses using it to heat a van, as well. Some Amazon reviews note similar problems like poor simmer. Butane igniters are impossible.
I was using the Colman stove to heat my van while I was in California. It puts out a lot of heat and warms the van quickly. It also added a lot of condensation to the van which wasn’t a problem in SoCal but was an issue here in Seattle.
The duraflame lighter, shouldn't even need gas in it. Stove should only need a spark to light it. There are 'electric matches' just for this purpose. I got the a dual fuel stove also, great to have options! I LOVE the sheet pan upside down idea! For a cheap wind guard, just grab a disposable alum roasting pan & form as needed. Gas temps From my research, butane ishottest, map next down, propane then NG. (could be wrong)
You could be correct about the heat output of the various gases. It does seem that butane is hotter than propane. So far the new stove doesn’t need any other wind guard, it been working amazingly well.
If you haven't already, maybe you should contact Coleman about their fireball stove. Maybe there was a recall on a part, or even just to let them know of the issue to have on record. Your new stove looks very nice. Those small butane canisters are not expensive at all. They are usually found in any Asian market in a 4-pack for $4.99 - $7.99.
Yeah, I paid $40 for the Coleman and used it for a year and a half, I’m ok with tossing it now. Apparently there have been recalls on Coleman stoves. I used to buy butane for $3.50 for a four pack at an Asian store in East LA. I’m currently paying $2.89 a gallon for propane.
Nice stove. I gotta get one of those to hook up to my propane tank. I have one of the regular ones that run on those butane canisters that run out waaay too fast.
I will be doing an update review on this stove. It’s not all positive but I’m very happy with it. I tried using using Butane but you’re right, those cans don’t last.
I like the power of the stove. The only time the stove seems overpowered is in the summer because it has a tendency to heat up my van. Since the Gas One stove simmers so well, the extra btu is only an issue when the stove is cranked up on high.
I heard violin music and shed a tear in tribute to all the memories of great cups of tea shared over the years with "old fireball". Those Colemans aren't up to the quality that they used to be. Case in point: last year me and my nomad Canadian RV neighbor were camped in Las Vegas on Christmas day and she had a new in the box Coleman 2 burner I set up for our Christmas breakfast diner that I cooked on. Worked fine. We tried to use it a few hours later for Christmas diner (outside) and the darn thing flamed up just as yours had. Seems like the regulator went and I could not use it safely. Back in the box it went and back to Walmart Canada it went for a refund when she returned. Poor Chinese construction I would guess. Enjoy that tea in the closing scene my friend!
Cautionary tale there! I think this rids my van of Colman products. Save for the sleeping bag I am using as a curtain. Now that I’m over the flu, I have stashed away all the tea. It’s Coffee drinking time again!
I also use these Stove. Have been using for 3 weeks now and it works great for me. Haven’t done a lot of cooking but somehow I don’t have any complains. These stoves comes under a dozen varieties of brand names, but they are all the same. The canister that I buy (Butane) is way cheaper than the Coleman 1 pound green bottle. On Amazon, buying the 24 pack butane refills bulk works out much cheaper. Could you post me the link for the stove hose adaptor?
I didn’t look for the adapter, it was sold with the stove. I didn’t see it offered separately. The Gas One brand has a different burner than all the other brands. That’s why I chose it over the others.
My local asian market sells butane canisters for $1.25 each...not as cheap as propane, but not "insanely expensive", either. Anyway, I was considering that Gas One stove, but read the plastic regulator on the propane hose tends to fail quickly...and since it uses a proprietary connection to the stove, buying a replacement is going to be the exact same faulty hose.
That is a good point about the hose. Butane canisters only last about two days versus about a week for a green bottle of propane, on average for me. That means butane is the more costly option, for me. But I would much rather refill my bulk propane tank since the price is about $2.50 a gallon.
I did notice the regulator started to leak a little when I use it with my bulk propane tank. I added a shut off valve and haven’t noticed any gas leaks since. I am Really happy with this stove. I’ve been meaning to make an update video about the stove. I think it’s definitely worth the money.
Several people have told me there was a recall on the Colman. Two people told me they caught their vans on fire. I work full time so I can afford to buy and replace items as I need to. With an item I use everyday, $60 seems like a great deal.
I should have showed the hose connection. Yes it screws into the same area the butane canister connects. It’s a simple connection and doesn’t need tools.
I bought the stove from Amazon. I decided on this brand because it has a brass burner. Time will tell if the burner is actually better than the other brands. My flu didn’t last long, thankfully.
I would have talked to Coleman as they can be cooperative and knowledgeable about problems. If your new stove is really better then maybe it is worth it to upgrade but otherwise I would look at fixing the Coleman.
I felt $40 for a stove I got a year and a half of daily use of was pretty good. Plus I am enjoying this new stove. I don’t need a lighter and it is very powerful which makes it boil water faster. It’s an upgrade for sure.
May I ask where you bought the pot? I like the spout for pour over coffee, my preferred method for making coffee. And that looks like a better burner than its predecessor. Good choice.
The kettle is made by Hario. I’ve had it so long I don’t remember where I bought it. Maybe Williams-Sonoma but they are sold all over now. Google: Hario Bueno Kettle
Butane is not as expensive as propane BUT it will not work below a certain temperature (outside) forgot what it was. I would be interested in a follow up after a few months.
The cheapest I have paid for butane canisters is about $3.50 for a four pack. Those canisters held 8 ounces each. I am currently paying $2.89 a gallon for propane. Plus having a gallon tank means I am not changing (and throwing away) containers constantly.
Great stove review! I have been wondering about both of these stoves. They both seem pretty good but as always you really do get what you pay for. I am still looking at marine stoves too. If I could find a good used one on Ebay then I will go with that. If not then definitely the Gas One would be my first choice. I might even still get one for outdoor cooking because if I get a marine stove I my have to get a "drop in " one so it will not be readily removable. :-)
I haven’t had any problems. But my van has unusually good ventilation. I have both a floor vent as well as a roof vent fan. I never run the stove unless the vents are open. And I cook with my vans door open as much as possible.
It’s great having the option to use either fuel. FYI, if you use propane, either unhook the propane bottle or use a shut-off valve and bleed the pressure after every use. The achilles’ heel with these stoves are the propane regulators. The regulators fail if they have any pressure on them for a length of time.
I'm not a fan of propane or any other fuel carried in a vehicle but your new stove looks nice. Have you ever considered single electric burner or does that seem like it would drain your battery, just curious 😁
Naturally NeCee An electric stove would drain a lot the battery, it would also have to be plugged to an inverter which would use power. Some van dwellers/ RV’s with a lot of solar capacity usually uses induction stoves. These are much more efficient than electric stoves as they do not waste energy.
I originally was going to use an induction plate but after doing the math found it isn’t viable. I’d need at least 4 more solar panels and 6 to 8 more batteries to use the induction top for a couple of hours at best.
Thanks for the excellent review and glad you got a new, safer stove! Do you happen to know why anyone would use butane at all? More expensive than propane, sometimes hard to find and doesn't work in cold temperature environments...
Haha, I do know why. Because butane is easy. You pop a can in and click it on, easy peasy. That’s what I like about this stove, it combines the best of all in one.
LOL I guess the stove in use is more compact when butane is used and the canisters are smaller than the smallest propane canisters as well - good for limited storage areas...:)
Yes. That’s were I have been using it. It’s a little short of the recommended clearance above the heater but I haven’t had any trouble at all. I mounted the heater to a tv stand so it swivels out away from everything when I am running it.
I have. I still own an induction cooktop but after doing the math, I figure I would need at least 4 more solar panels and 6 more batteries to power it. And there would probably only be enough sunlight to power it in the summer. After all the research, I have decided to only use 12 volt appliances and to cook with gas to maximize my solar system.
Threw all these gas powered stowes and heaters out of your camper van. Too dangerous. Go the full road and buy a Wallas combined stowe and heater blower. Runs on different fuel types. Diesel is number one if your car is on Diesel too.
@@StaticCamperVan I'm so glad that you laughed. You responded to my feedback quickly and with hilarity. This tells me that you care about your audience and potential followers. And for that reason I'm going to subscribe to your channel. As I watch your videos I'm not going to put you on trial but I'll give you feedback if I see there's a way to improve. I was interested in buying the stove and your video helped me decide. Thank you. Much respect to you sir and good luck.
Hey, Thanks. As a little bit of background, I make videos as a hobby. Being such, I try not to sway people to buy products. I try to give information that I find useful and hope other people find it useful, too. I really wanted to like the Coleman stove but it had too many issues. I’ve heard from several people that Coleman has fixed the flaming problem. Maybe it’s a better stove now.
Being that you are urban, why cook? Couldn't a single guy eat just as cheaply, and maybe more eating out? I mean with Combo Specials, All you can eat buffets, etc. You wouldn't have the mess to clean up, nor would you have to vent the smoke, thus compromising your stealthness. Have you done a cost analysis? You don't seem like a guy that needs to eat every two hours, perhaps once or twice a day.
I’m all about convenience, I want the ability to cook when I want. I do eat out lots but I have some very severe food allergies. I can’t eat most fast food. That leaves expensive options like Whole Foods. So yes, I have done a cost comparison, eating three meals a day is extra costly for me so being able to cook is key. Also I am not concerned with “stealth” anymore. I do what I want where I want and have not had any trouble doing so.
Another great video ! Thanks for sharing your van life . It’s so interesting . You’re inspiring me to do it. I’m looking forward to your next video . Thanks again

Wow, 18 years! I was happy to find this stove. The better design that uses less expensive propane seems like a winner.

Shoot flames high enough to reach the ceiling? Regulator is knackered mate.

Good review! One downside of butane is it doesn't ignite well in temps below around 30-35 degrees.

Was just about to buy a propane connector for the same Coleman stove. Glad I saw this, will put the $ into the Gas one instead. Thanks for the review.
Thanks, glad I can help. There are several brands that are similar to this Gas One. Amazon recommends these so they swayed my decision.

This new stove looks like a wise choice. The last thing you want is your van catching fire because the flame gets too high.
Too true!
Thats some good ideas refurbishing and info on stove for future reference
That is a nice little unit!

RIP fireball, it sounds like the regulater was/is going out, definitly time for a change.
Must be. Still a pretty good deal, forty bucks and I used it more than a year and a half.
Agreed.

Got the same BBQ lighter and have been using it over a year! Been empty for most of that time but the ignition is perfect to still spark the stove. Hate the child proof ones! Looks like you don't have to mess with them now, sweet upgrade!

Haha!
It would be easy to install a starter and refurbish the valve to solve all the problems for much less on the old stove.
That fireball would scare me too especially inside a van.Hope you don't have to wait until june to cook outside. 😀
Haha! I could have used it outside today but I was lazy instead!
Great review! Luv your channel, keep up the great work. Also luv reading these comments , your followers are awsome too ! Lol.
Thanks so much. Yes, the comments are usually the best part here. Lots of funny, clever people!
Very nice choice
If your striker fails on your new stove, you can purchase a "Welder's (torch) striker".
They last a long time. I like you unit, "Bon Appetit" !!!
Great idea!
Have one but mine's a mini. I use small pots and pans. Love it. I use butane but like that it's duel fuel.
I like the mini one better because it was chrome. I thought it might be too small for some of my pans.
Like the sheet pan/magnet trick.
Thanks. It’s been working well so far.

I see's im not the only one with stove problems. but that new one looks pretty nice my friend...
I’m liking it, it’s a powerhouse.
First off great video. Second was the 3900 too strong since it was double the btu of the coleman?

It’s Coffee drinking time again!
.......Bob Wells recommended that stove........thought dual fuel option a plus.......been considering one for myself........thx for the tip.
Your welcome. This Gas One brand seems to make a little better quality stove than most I’ve looked at.
Thanks for the info
You’re welcome!
Good to see you. Take care.
Thanks
Excellent review.
Thanks Sue.
I just realized this video is a year old. No problems with the stove or hose after a year of daily use?
(i may buy it after all)
I did notice the regulator started to leak a little when I use it with my bulk propane tank. I added a shut off valve and haven’t noticed any gas leaks since.
I am Really happy with this stove. I’ve been meaning to make an update video about the stove. I think it’s definitely worth the money.
I've seen videos here on YT on how to fix the knob issue with a rubber washer or piece of leather to keep it from changing setting by itself
I don’t think the knob has anything to do with the problem I was experiencing.
sounds like the pressure seals inside your regulator is what the problem is, it comes a part very easily, a 2 dollar O ring kit
should fix it.
Several people have told me there was a recall on the Colman. Two people told me they caught their vans on fire. I work full time so I can afford to buy and replace items as I need to. With an item I use everyday, $60 seems like a great deal.
Is the hose connected to the new stove in a convenient way? Good video. ☺
I should have showed the hose connection. Yes it screws into the same area the butane canister connects. It’s a simple connection and doesn’t need tools.
Static CamperVan Awesome!
.....get the kettle on Scott, I'll be round for a cuppa tea, matey 👍
This is a Coffee Only van, haha. But you’re welcome to drop by.
ah,,, your only 4, 781 miles away..... lol :) Have a fun week, Scott..!
Where did you get your new stove from? Some place local? Sorry to hear you had the flu. Hope all is better now.
I bought the stove from Amazon. I decided on this brand because it has a brass burner. Time will tell if the burner is actually better than the other brands. My flu didn’t last long, thankfully.
Good choice
You know Mr. Static, I was just thinking....
Uh-oh
I would have talked to Coleman as they can be cooperative and knowledgeable about problems. If your new stove is really better then maybe it is worth it to upgrade but otherwise I would look at fixing the Coleman.
I felt $40 for a stove I got a year and a half of daily use of was pretty good. Plus I am enjoying this new stove. I don’t need a lighter and it is very powerful which makes it boil water faster. It’s an upgrade for sure.
"it boil water faster" Your main concern, as usual, is coffee.
Haha! You know it!
I am aware of this de-lip-smacking audio plugin, I will forward . . .
Static CamperVan agree....just pointing out a drawback of butane.
Gotcha.
Those marine stoves are great. It would be nice to have more than one burner if you have the space.
Static CamperVan totally. I am hoping to find one before I build the kitchen and then build around it.
Any issues using it inside. Website says not certified for indoor use.
I haven’t had any problems. But my van has unusually good ventilation. I have both a floor vent as well as a roof vent fan. I never run the stove unless the vents are open. And I cook with my vans door open as much as possible.
We had a butane only model, "Mr Stove", for 20 years. Time for a new one with propane option. It arrived today.
It’s great having the option to use either fuel. FYI, if you use propane, either unhook the propane bottle or use a shut-off valve and bleed the pressure after every use.
The achilles’ heel with these stoves are the propane regulators. The regulators fail if they have any pressure on them for a length of time.
@@StaticCamperVan good to know.
Gas one has a 20 psi regulator for a bulk tank. I will get one to replace the supplied regulator/ hose.
I still own my induction plate but while it is very efficient, it draws too much power for my system.
Leo Crow oh okay. I need to look into Induction Stoves. Thank You 😀
Static CamperVan Wow, I guess that would turn out to be really expensive.
You should have shown us the Coleman shooting flames.
I sincerely apologize for not burning my van down.
Sounds like it needs a regular hose
Get the "camping gaz" Double with grill. Blue in colour.
Great Review, great name - Fireball .. lol .. hows the cork going
The cork is still working great.
This is off topic of your video but is that where your wave 3 sits while its running? Looks like it doesn't have much clearance around it.
Yes. That’s were I have been using it. It’s a little short of the recommended clearance above the heater but I haven’t had any trouble at all. I mounted the heater to a tv stand so it swivels out away from everything when I am running it.
Cool thats a good idea
nice review.
Thank you.
🦋
now i know ... static is Magneto :-)
consider invection?
Wish mine would. Tqkes forever to boil water even. Mine really n3ver gets hot
Sorry to hear that.
Threw all these gas powered stowes and heaters out of your camper van. Too dangerous. Go the full road and buy a Wallas combined stowe and heater blower. Runs on different fuel types. Diesel is number one if your car is on Diesel too.
Buy butane canisters at oriental markets, super good buy! Fraction of the cost elsewhere.
You’re correct. But bulk propane is an even better deal. I get one gallon of propane filled for less than one eight ounce canister of butane.
Static CamperVan True Dat!
Did you ever do a follow up on your new stove....? Still liking it? Hope so cause I just bought one from Amazon, lol.
Haven’t done a follow up yet. I’m very happy with mine. Gas One makes a great quality stove.
If you experienced the flames shooting up to the ceiling, you make videos, so why couldn't you capture your experience and makes us believe you.
Haha. I didn’t realize that I was on trial.
Maybe do some indoor smores or hotdogs A LA Flame.
That’s the spirit!
Buy a new regular is your problem
Um.
