I closely considered both the MDX and the QX60, but I ended up going with the QX60. I really liked the MDX with it's more sporty driving experience, but to me, the QX60 was a little better in every other way. It was roomier, quieter, more luxurious, much better infotainment (touchpad, really?), much better towing... and it looks stunningly beautiful. Fantastic job Infiniti.
MDX....and I pulled the trigger last week. Initially, from browsing on the both websites, my intent was to get the Q60. Both my wife and I agreed, we liked its luxury look in and out, but when we went to both dealers, sitting inside the vehicles changed our perspective. The Q60 STILL looked great on the outside, but when we stepped inside the difference was night and day. What is boils down to was personal choice. We first went to Acura and we felt like a pilot behind the controls just the way you described. We had no issues with the touchpad...it felt totally natural leaning back and navigating the screen. Then we went to Infiniti....the exterior still looked fantastic, but then we stepped inside...we both looked at each other and knew instantly that the Q60 wouldn't be for us. We just didn't get that huggy cockpit feeling...and I am a buttons and lights kind of person. Both cars looked great, but the MDX was more our taste even though its exterior wasn'tas luxurious looking. But it had enough style and atheletic look to satisfy us. So we returned and made our deal with Acura.
Acuras infotainment is terrible. Qx60 has touch and a dial that both work better. Even Lexus got rid of touchpads. Both drive about the same. Basically the same engine. Acura is a little more agile while qx60 is more refined. You can be going 90 in the qx60 and not know it. I like the look of the MdX but it’s a little close to the Mazda cx-9. QX60 looks more like a Land Rover if you get black, white or blue. Interior of qx60 is much better laid out.
Acura mdx non A specs have transmission gear whining. Acura claims normal but it is an annoying sound they are not addressing. Let’s see if they correct it with a tab. Buy something else so you don’t face transmission issues later on
The MDX doesn't look like a Luxury car inside and out and it is more like a high end regular car. It is no comparison to Lexus in terms of luxury feeling and looking, most Asians would opt for Lexus RX350 than MDX. That is why you see Asians drive 10 times more RX350 than MDX. But I think MDX has better driving experience than RX350 due to better engine. My ideal car would be Infiniti QX350 or RX350 outside, RX350 inside and MDX under the hood.
I am Asian. I love Acura more than Lexus! I tried RDX and RX350. RDX was much more fun and easier to drive. So I bought RDX and went to the mountain full of snow last Christmas. The SH-AWD was so amazing that I drove up to the mountain top without a snow chain, and no slippery feeling at all. Now I am considering buying an MDX this year since RDX is a little small for a family ski trip.
The truth is always a bitter pill to swallow. The QX60 was one of the worst selling crossovers in the segment and the only luxury midsize crossover that had a CVT. To say it was a worthy competitor to its closest rivals prior to the current generation would be propping up an inferior product

QX60 looks better in & out
Both look good but I would rather have the Infiniti in the blue
I went with the 23 mdx advance …more fun to drive in the mountains and the audio system was in another league
