  • Miller Electric's newest engine drives have arrived. We are here to break down the differences and review both the Bobcat 230 and the Bobcat 265. Thy two machines are the exact same physical size. (100 lbs lighter and 13% smaller than the previous generation!) The biggest surprise they are priced LESS than the previous model was. The biggest difference is the advancements and options on the 265. The screen is a visual difference but the capabilities of the machine are far more advanced than the 230.

The Bobcat 230 is capable of Stick and MIG welding whereas the Bobcat 265 can do MIG, TIG, Stick, and gouging. The Bobcat 265 also has Auto-set and a direct connection for a spool gun, and the Bobcat 230 does not.
The Bobcat 230 has one adjustment knob. The Bobcat 265, on the other hand, has a screen that displays more information and can be adjusted. Standard on the Bobcat 265 is the remote start/stop and the Bobcat 230 does not offer remote start/stop. The Bobcat 265 also has optional Battery Charge/Crank Assist, Optional Arcreach, and an optional LP model.
When it comes to power the Bobcat 230 gets up to 230 amps at 29 volts, at 100% duty cycle. The Bobcat 265 can reach 265 amps at 28 volts, which is impressive and should not be underestimated. See the Miller comparison sheet here for more information.

Man I would be afraid that digital shit would fail over the years. Something would happen screen would break, sun faded or moisture intrusion. Love the new look the 265 and the features but I think that 230 would be more reliable in the long run. Wish miller would have kept there older Analog switch 260. Miller needs to let Hobart make the 250 AC/DC machine.

The fourth page on the spec sheet has all of the duty cycle info! For Stick welding
      230 A at 29.2 V,
      100% duty cycle

@BakersGas I have an older version rebadged Hobart 225 which is basically the stripped-down bobcat for just stick welding I'm interested in that unit because it does constant voltage I was concerned that the duty cycle was derated and five more amps that's awesome thank you for the information
