So true. In my culture,most mother or mother in law take control. We were told that if argue with them, son will go to hell. So we just adapt to oppressive situation at most of the time.
We need to learn our ISLAM it shows us the way to live peacefully. When we don't know our rights then things go wrong.

Im glad you addressed this because in countries like india and pakistan, its quite common for mothers to take to much control of their daughter in laws and I have seen this happen first hand and I can assure you its not a good sight.

Well, both husband and wife and mum-in law need to fear Allah.If they actually do fear Allah, they will accept the boundaries that are being set. The lack of acceptance of truth is weakness of emaan. And our mothers are not exempted from it. They are humans. Not angels. My father used to set the boundary between his wife (my mother) and his mother (my grandma) and they knew that that they cannot cross the line. My mum never did. My grandma tried to but my father firmly told NO. If man does not have a spine to manage marriage and his mum, then he should stay with his mum and not get married. There is no excuse, for being a spineless person and the head of the family at the same time. If a man wants to be the head of the family, he must be disciplined in his ways and must have a spine to tackle issues justly. Or he must get ready to be held accountable and punished therefore by Allah for his injustices. Period. And Allah knows best.
Also, a note to men, trust me brothers, the injustices you do or you aid through your mother or your wife, you will be held accountable for this In Shaa Allah and by Allah, no one , not even your own mother dear is going to stand before Allah on day pf Judgement and go to hell for you for the sins you commit and neither is your wife. You will be ALONE. So better, start getting a spine, fullfill the responsibilities of the head of the family, deal with justice among the members of the family and fear Allah for doing so. I understand we love our mothers, but dont be fooled, that you wont be held accountable or you mum is gonna take the blame for you. She won't. Stand firm and be just. Allahu-A'alam.

You write well but dont seem to absorb the real weakness, probably because you have faced a bad marriage hence your bias is reasonable....its not about drawing line , there are many many lines already drawn, but if a girl is married and the husband has married her despite of her first failed marriage, left his job abroad came to the home country, started a new life with her when her own family was calling her names like whore and liability etc... Had kids with her. Eventually runs away with the kids due to a depressed widow in the house who keeps cribbing or grumbling. I agree that definitely there is no escape from allah and we will answer for our deeds, but doesnt it already give her and her husband all the more reason to stick to each other by having faith in allah, rather than finger pointing and aggrevating the situation.???...Think from a broader mind, try not to customize islam and shariah as per your liking and misuse the provisions as escape routes !! Thats all iam saying...
